Are you kidding me with this!? DVD hardly has anything!? Again!? Seriously, this is absolutely ridiculous, and needs to stop.

Is there a reason why you can't buy the combo pack? People really need to calm down about stupid shit like this! Blu Ray players are $100 now, and by next year you can probably get one cheaper! Buy the combo pack, and once you get a Blu-Ray player you can stop bitching.

Hey, that's not very nice. I'm a paying customer and regular supporter of Disney. There is no reason why I should spend $100 on some gadget that I really don't need just to enjoy bonus features on a very shiny and more expensive DVD. There is just no reason. It isn't stupid, it's a legitimate complaint. I can spend $25 on a DVD, but I don't have $100 to drop on a BR player, especially adding in the fact that BRs are more like $35. I want my DVDs, and I want them properly loaded.

I'm disappointed. There is sooo much more they could have put in. At the same time, I'm looking forward to all those features, so I think I will be pleased :D

I loved this movie, definitely going to be a day-1 purchase for me on Blu-ray! Looking forward to it!
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

First off, I haven't spent $35 on a blu-ray since... oh wait, since EVER. Right now you can get Tangled on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and Digital Copy, all for $21.99... cheaper than you're apparently paying for your single disc DVDs (If you're still paying $25 for a DVD, you're getting ripped off majorly, buddy).

Second, it IS stupid. Two years ago it was a legitimate complaint. However, it no longer is. Back in the late 90s/early 2000s, when we were 3 years into DVDs, were they packing the VHSs with bonus features? Hell no... they had no reason to because it was time for the entire world to upgrade. Once again, it is TIME TO UPGRADE.

If you refuse to do so, the world will just leave you in the dust and in ten years you aren't going to understand how any of the newfangled technology that those darn kids are using works. That's certainly you're choice. But that's the thing: it's YOUR CHOICE. Disney isn't forcing you to switch; it's giving you an incentive to. So just... do it.

Long story short, to say "This needs to stop" is not even remotely realistic. I can guarantee you it will NEVER stop. DVDs will be a thing of the past within 5 years, and no one is going to care.

At the beginning of this year, I had no plans of upgrading to Blu-ray, and I didn't even have a HDTV yet, but I started buying the combo packs in anticipation of an upgrade, as you mentioned.

I'm getting a Blu-ray player for Christmas, but even if I wasn't, I don't think it hurts to have the extra Blu-ray copy in the case for the day you do upgrade, even if it's not for as long as 10 years from now. I would rather make one purchase now than have to upgrade my DVD collection to Blu-ray later (if that was important to you). Of course you could always watch your DVDs on a Blu-ray player, so unless you really wanted to upgrade the picture quality of a favorite film, the re-buying idea wouldn't apply.

I'm not sure how quickly the whole world of home media will change to strictly Blu-ray releases, but I think it's safe to assume that it's a downward slide for DVD from this point on, and it's not going to get better for those who don't like not seeing the DVD's crammed with bonus features.

Just so you know. Amazon has an $8 dollar off coupon for Tangled's 3d combo pack.

I got the email. Seems you have to qualify for it, though.

This is what it says in the email:

Plus save $8 on "Tangled (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy)" if you qualify for the Disney coupon. Make sure you are signed into your account to view the Disney Coupon Book. This coupon expires on December 23, 2010.

and when I log into my amazon account it says: (Discount applied at checkout).

Remember it expires on Dec 23rd.

That's a flimsy argument because at no time were VHS ever packed with bonus features. As far as I know, right through the end, VHS cassettes were as they always were. It's pretty sad that the only way the studios can sell the Blu-ray format is by diluting DVD to the bare essentials... and even then having to provide the diluted DVD alongside the Blu-ray.

Joe SixPack could not give a rip about higher resolution nor bonus features. Give him a Red Box at McDonalds/Walmart/local grocery store, and he's happy.

Dunno much about these things, but as of right now amazon.com lists the Tangled 4-pack DVD as the 7th (out of 100!) bestselling item on their "Most Popular in TV/Movies" list!! :D

I don't remember many VHSs having bonus features, and if they did it wasn't much.

Anyway I don't see DVDs getting more features compared to Blu-ray any more. Studios are pushing Blu-ray, and its selling, so they are cutting back on DVDs. I still don't think DVD is going away anytime soon, but Blu-ray players are well under $100 now and Blu-ray releases are only a few dollars more on release week. Sometimes they are a lot cheaper than the DVD on release week (Disneys latest releases with coupons).

The Snow White VHS I think Did when it was released at a Platinum Edition if I recall correctly...you could only see the features after the film.

Also....can we please Tangle on back on topic to the subject at hair...Tangled DVD and blu ray release.... and drop the Blu vs dvd talk/arguements. go to a section of the forums you can all go nuts on and banter back and forth about blu ray vs dvd all willy nilly until your hearts content.....

I found this on youtube. I know it's probably been posted but it's funny...I want some smoulder :P

Thank you, Luke, that's exactly my point. DVD is a huge upgrade from VHS. From DVD to Blu, however, is not as noticeable a difference. DVDs used to have all of the wonderful bonus features, and now they usually have very little thanks to Blu-Ray. Call me unsophisticated if you like, but my Disney movies are my simple pleasures in life. I don't need to see them in 1080p to see how beautiful and special they are, and I am very satisfied with DVD quality. Now all I need is a decent making-of and an audio commentary, and I'll be very happy.
