I have all of them except for Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Snow White. I made the mistake of assuming they wouldn't be going anywhere, given my towns track record for having movies stick around for a long time.

The Platinum Line is Finished!

Post by Disney Duster »

I proudly only bought the ones I care about, from either liking the films or respecting and appreciating the films. I don't need Disney to tell me what's the best to buy, even though I feel all Platinums and Diamonds are deserving of their titles, and like that they have the honor and the whole line (but they need Aladdin and Dumbo and Fantasia back in there!).

I remember buying Snow White. I was in middle school, one of the most horrible depressing times of my life and apparently is for so many kids! But Disney's re-releases were big bright spots in all of that. I read online about the Platinum line, noting when Cinderella would come (Back in 2001, and being a kid, it was so, so far off, like in 2006!). I saw the previews for Snow White, and...it wasn't one of my most favorite films, but I did like it so much still, and the previews made it look amazing.

This was truly one of the most exciting times, all these Platinums, but especially Snow White, a dark magical fairy tale, Disney's first original classic, and this immersive, magical way of watching the film and experiencing Disney movies.

It was Fall, the perfect time for this movie in particular. Fall always felt amazing to me as a kid, and it's still of my favoritest times, and so I walked into Blockbuster, and I see the film, and I'm thinking about it...I want it so bad...and there's the DVD player, something I need in order to watch it and something we don't have. My dad was with me. I asked him about it. He said go for it, with the Blockbuster kid encouraging me (ha, for a sale, but also it felt, genuine enthusiasm and desire for me to experience the greatness).

I took about $100 out of my account and got the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition and a DVD player! It felt FANTASTIC! I went home, I set it up, and that was pretty cool, and then I put in the disc and...holy sh!t, the menu, the magic, the interactivity! The Magic Mirror talks to me and welcomes me to and enchanted, immersive world. And, the rest is...magical!

I now look very forward to the Platinums. I am thinking of looking for the old Beauty and the Beast for the old galleries, though, I want those most of all when it comes to that movie's behind the scenes. Well, second the Putnam reel. And I look very foward to Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan on Diamond. Why? To fix the colors and grain...or generally the whole picture. Luckily Beauty and the Beast's colors got better with it's Diamond. And no compression! So, definitely a purchase!

Pap, um...why...why did you not get any of the other Platinums? I mean, you got Snow White of all things and not the others!

 You mean you had to wait a week after each or you seriously got them as soon as you weren't living with your dad anymore and they were still available somehow? Did you buy them yourself then?

My first platinum was The Little Mermaid when it came out in 2006. Though, in holland it was just called Deluxe Edition. R2NL

10-2008 Sleeping Beauty, the day it was released, for some strange reason, after The Little Mermaid, they were being called Platinum Editions. R2NL

10-2009 Snow White (Diamond). The day it was released. R2NL

06-2010 The JungleBook (Brand new from internet R2NL)
06-2010 Pinocchio (same as above R2NL)

06-2010 Lady And The Tramp (brand new, won auction on ebay R1)

06-2010 The Little Mermaid (I bought the Trilogy boxset brand new, and finally have a version that says Platinum Edition R1)

06-2010 The Lion King (brand new Gift Set, R1)

06-2010 101 Dalmatians (brand new from internet, R2NL)

06-2010 Lady And The Tramp (I also bought a brand new Dutch version, because of the dutch audio track and a different slipcover, R2NL)

06-2010 Peter Pan (brand new from internet, R2NL)

07-2010 Bambi (brand new in Costco package, R1)

07-2010 Snow White (brand new in Costco package, R1)

07-2010 Cinderella (brand new Gift Set, R1)

07-2010 Beauty And The Beast (brand new in Costco package, R1)

07-2010 Aladdin (brand new Gift Set, R1)

As you can see, I bought most of these over the summer, all brand new from Ebay in EXCELLENT condition. Bambi, Beauty and Snow White all came in Costco package, which is some large display box with the dvd in it so it's extra protected. I bought them all twice, to keep one sealed and one to go with the rest of the collection. I did the same with the three Gift Sets, though the Aladdin one also come in a Costco Display box, so that one is HUGE!
Because most of them are R1 dvds, I am considering re-buying Peter, Jungle, 101, Sleeping and Pinocchio in R1 version as well some day.

I love the Gift Sets, they are very beautiful, as well as the Little Mermaid Trilogy Box even if i don't care that much for the sequels./

I was living with my dad. My grandparents bought them, and sent them to me.
Disney is awesome, and was the biggest part of my childhood.
