Well then. That makes more sense. I was just going off of the most recent news about it, where it will have "passing similarities".

I'm sure it will be an awesome movie, but it is a bummer that it's not even remotely tied to the series. I guess we'll have to wait to find out more about the premise.

Figures...if it looks like a spectacular Disney cover art - it's fan made

if it's crappy Disney cover art - it's the real Disney Cover

Did Disney scrap this idea?

Also sorry to those in advance who thought there might be a real update from this thread that has been lost to time.

Jordan Peele Reportedly Wants to Direct a ‘Gargoyles’ Movie at Disney
http://www.slashfilm.com/jordan-peele-gargoyles-movie/
In today’s edition of the entertainment industry newsletter The Ankler, writer Richard Rushfield reports that Peele “walk[ed] in and says he wants to do a new version of Gargoyles.” But instead of green lighting it or turning it down outright, Disney is apparently sitting on its hands.

“How do you turn down Jordan Peele? Well, you can’t. Who wants to be responsible for that decision? So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow walking the decision. It’s hoping, it seems, that they’ll run out the clock, he’ll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away.”

Q: Is the live-action Gargoyles film happening or was it canceled?

The DisInsider: It was never happening. Jordan Peele ("Get Out") pitched it, that's all.

Since then it has become a cult favorite that had even got the attention of the popular horror writer and director Jordan Peele that reportedly pitched a live action film to Disney, who at the time weren’t very interested.

^ That was such an interesting read- thanks for sharing it! I was thinking the whole time (and then the article addressed it near the end): in the '90s, what would they have used to make this look good? Early CGI or costumes? And whoa @National Treasure ride!!!!

For the hardcore fans to embrace this, Greg Weisman needs to be involved.

That's not necessarily a dealbreaker for me. I find that adaptation often works best when the original and the reboot are allowed to have distinct identities. In my opinion, if something is worth rebooting, it's worth saying something new about it, and that's not necessarily served by having the original authors around.

Anyways, this is an exciting development.

It's also interesting to me that after years of speculation, Gary Dauberman is the one to land the gig. I seem to recall that Jordan Peele also pitched a reboot to Disney at some point, and both he and Dauberman have roots in horror, and so I wonder if that says something about the nature of this project.

“We Are Still Keeping That Darkness to It”: Live-Action ‘Gargoyles’ Showrunner Teases the Upcoming Reboot
https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/we-ar ... ngNewsSerp
Dauberman does not intend to stray too far from the original series, which originally aired in syndication from 1994 to 1997. Says Dauberman, "I feel like we have the animated series already. The cartoon is so good. It’s so good. That’s what we fell in love with. I think it lends itself to a really cool live-action version." He intends to hew to the tone of the series, which was at times extremely dark for a kid-aimed action cartoon: "We are still keeping that darkness to it. I’m excited to see the animated [series] come to life." As the project is at Disney, who released the original cartoon, Dauberman can't get into too many specifics as to what characters or storylines could make it into live-action: "I think Disney would kill me." Dauberman is currently on a publicity tour for another high-profile live-action adaptation, the video-game-based horror film Until Dawn.
No solid details, really, except confirmation that Disney hasn't canned it yet.

10-15 years ago I really wanted a live action adaptation of Gargoyles to revitalize interest in the animated series. Since then, Disney+ has done the work of reminding past audiences of and introducing new audiences to the animated show. So in that sense, a live action series isn’t really needed anymore.

I would much prefer an animated continuation of the show, which doesn’t seem entirely improbable today, with the renewed interest in the series, like it did 15 years ago.

I'm of a similar mind, though I don't always have faith in trying to reboot a series several years after its official end. (Loved the NBC run of "Frasier"--absolutely did not need a revival twenty years after the fact.)

The best-case scenario would have obviously been a proper third season (mixed feelings about "The Goliath Chronicles") and on with the original creative team, but that option's not on the table.

My hope is that with so many attempts at cashing in on millennial nostalgia on the table, we might finally have enough data on the table to know what methods work and which don't. And with Disney+ moving away from their old approach of "greenlight everything but never spend more than $20 on any project," they might finally be ready to give something like this its due attention.

These are, of course, high hopes.
