Bambi: Diamond Edition
I can't believe they can get away without saying "Walt Disney's". Isn't that lying about the proper title or not giving compensation to the man who made that movie, as well as not giving him respect? Can't legal action be taken against that?

Well, obviously if it's going to get a Blu-Ray, a lot of people are going to share in your excitement.zackisthewalrus wrote:Bambi: Diamond Edition Discussion
So, right now, this is being predicted as the spring Diamond Edition of 2011. Hopefully Disney won't screw up next year like they did this year. So, I'm excited about this release. Anyone else?
By the way, I know this is really early, but I'm really excited. Haha
As for me- I'm fully satisfied with my Platinum. I'd rather see Aladdin and Cinderella get releases before this, Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. I need to replace one and get the other for the first time.
But all of this is nothing compared to my feelings about The Princess and the Frog. A new film should never be used as an excuse to stall the release of classic films like Dumbo or Fantasia. I'm still steamed about that.

Then why the hell does Dumbo just say Disney? There is no method to their madness; Disney marketing is horrible (will the jury take notice that I, the prosecutor, submit Tangled as evidence in my case?).estefan wrote:I believe how it goes is that the films that had involvement from Walt Disney himself have his full name. The Snow White Blu-Ray also has "Walt Disney" above the title.
At least it's confirmed to be the Spring Diamond release, making The Lion King the Fall Diamond (as long as they don't delay Bambi and Dumbo again for Tangled like they did for The Princess and the Frog).
So I wonder when we'll get a flyer advertising Fantasia and it's release date (December). Never mind, Disney marketing is terrible.

I really hate this new Disney marketing scheme. It's so confusing! However, I do need a new copy of Bambi. The one I have isn't exactly one I'm proud to put on my shelf since it was a severely used DVD. But what I really want them to release is The Lion King. The one I have is scratched, so I haven't seen that film in years, and it sucks because it's my favorite Disney movie of all time.

WOW! I'm surprised that Disney has already released an ad for this release and still hasn't officially announced the release for Fantasia/2000.
I just noticed and had to come back and edit this....with the release of Bambi (and soon Dumbo in the states), the first 5 DACs will be released on Blu! .....now, let's petition to get the 6th (Saludos Amigos) DAC released on Blu....yeah right, I don't seriously see that happening within the next 10 years.

before an apparent change in corporate management, I once knew a used game store that would repair damages for about 3 bucks a pop. you could always look up someone who can do the same.VagueSimplicity wrote:I really hate this new Disney marketing scheme. I love the tasteful DVD menu screens for Bambi...anyone like to speculate on what they would like to see for menu screens on the Blu-Ray?
And is anyone else absolutely blown away that the Five Golden Age films are all going to be on Blu-Ray in less than 9 more months? Snow White and Pinocchio have been released, Fantasia is a lock. Bambi is announced, now we just need a firm date for Dumbo (though I can see them delaying Dumbo again until 2011 for a 70th anniversary edition). The five greatest animated films of all time, all on Blu-Ray, all within what -- three years? Plus Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast! Who would have guessed!

Actually, I tried repairing the scratches on the DVD myself a couple of years back, but the scratches were so deep that I went too far with the scratch remover, and it corrupted the data on the disc, so now it's officially rendered unplayable.ajmrowland wrote: before an apparent change in corporate management, I once knew a used game store that would repair damages for about 3 bucks a pop. you could always look up someone who can do the same.
Besides, a Blu release of The Lion King isn't that far away. The satisfaction I get when I pop that sucker in is gonna taste all the sweeter from waiting so long to see it, sort of like my childhood Pixar movies (Toy Story, TS2, A Bug's Life). I've waited 5-6 years already, a couple more won't hurt. Plus, it's on youtube in HD, so I can watch it there.
I just wish that the girl I lent my movie to was more careful with handling the DVD. I've learned my lesson on lending from that experience alone.

On the subject on taking scratches out of discs, when I bought Bewitched Season 2 B&W, many of the discs were scratched when I recieved it. I didn't want to have to send it or take it back, as I don't care for that process and had to do it once before for my Halloweentown Double Feature DVD.
So, I went on the internet and read that my best and easiest solution was furniture polish (like this- http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... =328720285 except I used an off-brand from Wal-Mart). You're supposed to be very gentle, only scrubbing the scratch, and in circular motions. The deeper the scratch, the longer you scrub which was agonizing on one of those Bewitched DVDs. But in the end it worked, and thankfully none of my DVDs have been ruined doing that, so next time you get a scratch I might recommend that method.

I'm hoping that Disney will restore the original RKO Radio Pictures logo for Bambi on the Diamond Edition Blu-ray, as the Platinum Edition DVD didn't have it. I'm also hoping that the opening and closing titles will have the words "Distributed by R.K.O. Radio Pictures, Inc." on them, since they have not been seen in the film since its original 1942 release.
All DACs from Snow White to Jungle Book should say "Walt Disney's" in front of them on the cover. Everything after that should be "Walt Disney Productions Presents" or "Walt Disney Productions'" or whatever the original poster said. Just plain "Walt Disney" or worse, "Disney", is a grammatical and marketing disaster.

Since most of the cover artwork is off-model and usually hideous, I really don't give a damn -- as long as the credits are intact, I'm find. The covers are usually all craptastic, anyway.cms382 wrote:All DACs from Snow White to Jungle Book should say "Walt Disney's" in front of them on the cover.
