Well, I don't mind that you guys don't agree. But I still think it's hollow and lame. It hasn't cracked a genuine smile from me yet. Much less a laugh.ajmrowland wrote:Gilmore Girls' plots may be a bit shaky, but it certainly does not lack witt. The Best Television Programs of the Decade: 2000 - 2009

I'm not saying I disagree with you (but I can't say I agree either, since I haven't seen the show). I just hope you don't get the tashing and bashing I received in the other thread, just for stating your opinion. (It will be interesting to see whether or not there's a double standard at work here for different members...)Lazario wrote:PPf - I've seen the Gilmore Girls. You're describing the wrong television program. If the Gilmore Girls is "witty" and has "good plots and character development," than this is true for every television program.
Face it, pal, this show is made for a specific age group and lifestyle. It's not intelligent enough to be quality entertainment outside their target demographics. Sounds to me like the show nailed you on the head.
[...] It's mostly been successful (as many shows of its' type are for the same reasons) because of its' large budget, good looking actors, trendy music and storylines, how uncomplex the dialogue is, and how well-off the characters are.

Laz, I like you, and that's why I'm not really that pissed off. I'm just wondering why it's so important to you to criticize someone else's favorite things when you know it's not going to change their viewpoint on it. If someone has liked something for a good amount of years, one bad statement isn't going to change their judgement.Lazario wrote:Well, just as long as Siren's forgiven me, I won't sweat any more of it if if comes my way.Goliath wrote:I'm not saying I disagree with you (but I can't say I agree either, since I haven't seen the show). Because when I was criticizing the show- it had nothing to do with you or with changing your viewpoint. I don't care who likes the show. It's when people get creative in trying to make it sound like a multi-faceted form of entertainment. It exists for one reason: to pander. This is heavy, I know, but why can't that just be good enough for the fans? You still get the enjoyment out of it and I don't have to put up with people making flaccid excuses for it. Nobody likes to feel insulted, and I feel this show insults my intelligence. That's something I always speak out about. No matter what show it is or who likes it.PeterPanfan wrote:Laz, I like you, and that's why I'm not really that pissed off. For lack of a better excuse, I just want to keep putting the word out there that someone thinks this show (in spite of all its' would-be earnest, "hometown" Earthiness) is as plastic as Barbie.
And thank you.

Don't kill me for reviving this thread - I just really wanted to post my favourite post-2000 shows. Some haven't aired many episodes yet - though they entertained me enough to keep watching each new episode, which, I might add, doesn't happen too often.
Alias (2001 - 2006)
LOST (2005 - 2010)
Desperate Housewives (2005 - ")
Grey's Anatomy (2005 - ")
30 Rock (2006 - ") The only thing on NBC worth watching. Not that I get NBC, but I know what programming they air besides this.
V (2009 - ")
FlashForward (2009 - ")
Cougar Town (2009 - ")
2005 and 2009 were good years. The folks at Disney must love me even more than they already did, 7 of the 8 shows I chose are ABC-produced shows. "V" too, I believe, or was that Warner Bros... doesn't matter. I also liked Scrubs a lot, though it really jumped the shark post-season 7, in my opinion. I heard the only reason the Mouse House renewed it was for extra syndication-money. The ratings are lower than all the other prime-time shows on ABC - even lower than "Better Off Ted". That's pretty pathetic.

Gotcha. I didn't get into Avatar until I saw it streaming online. Then, I caved and bot the DVD box sets. It's much better than most primetime local dramas/action series and is worth every moment invested.
Never really got into Naruto.
Now, for 2008-present, I'd count Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a really good series.

I never did this but I felt it would only be appropriate seeing as I enjoy making these kinds of lists. Here goes nothin'. Shows in bold are still on the air (showing new episodes). Here are my favorite shows of the decade (not necessarily the best, but just some shows I enjoyed):
2000:
The Sopranos (ran 6 seasons until 2007)
2001:
Grounded for Life (ran 5 seasons, ended in 2005)
Reba (ran 6 seasons, ended 2007)
Six Feet Under (ran 5 seasons, ended 2005)
2002:
What I Like About You (ran 4 seasons, ended 2006)
George Lopez (ran 6 seasons, ended in 2007)
2003:
Two and a Half Men
Like Family (only lasted the one season, but was a welcome addition to my Friday nights)
2004:
Desperate Housewives
The Help (only lasted 7 episodes, but it had tons of pretty well-known stars and was hilarious, in my opinion at least)
2005:
American Dad!
Stacked (short-lived, two seasons, ended in 2006)
Supernatural
Living with Fran (short-lived, two seasons, ended in 2006)
The Comeback (short-lived, one season only)
Entourage
Weeds
2006:
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (short-lived, 1 season)
The New Adventures of Old Christine
Dexter
2007:
Californication
2008:
(Erm. None come to mind. Guess 2008 was a sucky year for TV?)
2009:
The Wanda Sykes Show (don't judge!)
