I don't think this trailer would have attracted more viewers than it got from using the other trailer. I think what gets people to want to see a movie has to have some dialogue from the movie, a joke, and a sort of cliffhanger. But I agree that this IS a way better trailer than the theatrical one!

My favorite shot of all in Ponyo would have to be at 1:11.

I think this will take awhile to sink in. Once it does, it will drive me ballistic. Disney KNOWS they should put a lossless audio track. I don't anything about all the technological stuff, but I question why they don't shell out the best when the picture is perfect. Could it not fit on the 50GB disc? Will Barks wrote:No, it's not perfect. Why is the original Japanese audio only compressed available? It could have been perfect...
By the way, I am still go glad to hear from Ghibli fans on the UD!

Yes..., yes it is.Will Barks wrote:No, it's not perfect. Why is the original Japanese audio only compressed available? It could have been perfect...
Just like ajmrowland just said, two lossless tracks would be virtually impossible on a disc like this, otherwise why would they not include it, just to annoy people - that seems a little far-fetched. And Disney released Ponyo on BD in Japan too, where the Japanese audio was lossless, yet the English audio was not. So, I guess it was either - English lossless audio - or Japanese lossless audio. And seeing as this release is technically for American consumers - they made the obvious choice.
I'll rephrase my first statement: as perfect as it could have been.

Nice review from DVDBeaver. I hope my Insignia player doesn't require a firmware update though (since I'm technology challenged & wouldn't have a clue how to do it). The reviewer had to update the firmware on both of his to play it. http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRevie ... lu-ray.htm
Great review on the UD front page from Luke too. He doesn't mention needing a firmware update so perhaps not all blu ray players (& hopefully mine) won't need one.
And a solid review from blu-ray.com. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Ponyo-Blu ... view/8042/

I'm really excited about seeing Ponyo! I've printed off the coupon so I'll be able to get the Blu-ray for around $15 and I'll also be purchasing KiKi's Delivery Service, which is, no doubt, my favorite Ghibli film. KiKi was the first Ghibli film I saw, so it holds a special place in my heart. And for some reason, I still only have the original VHS. But anyway, I'm excited for Tuesday!

I'm so jealous of you! I already have all of the Studio Ghibli films on dvd so if I buy the rereleases, I'd just be wasting my money. I really want to see all the bonus features they put on the new releases.TheSequelOfDisney wrote:I'm really excited about seeing Ponyo! No, there are only coupons for Ponyo on blu-ray. If Disney still does coupons for blu-rays in the future, we can be almost sure they will provide them for future Ghibli Blus.flipnoteguy wrote:Does anyone know if there are any other coupons for Ponyo and possibly the other Ghibli films?

Not too interesting but, the Disney Movie Rewards logo is missing from the Ponyo covers. The other Miyazaki rereleases don't have the stamped logo either. I know for sure we will get codes with these too.
Someone got it early and there is no sign of the logo:

Uh, they have. Sony usually includes two DTS-HD tracks on their Blu-ray releases (District 9, 2012), if not more if space allows. Considering that only Ponyo's DTS-HD MA track is 2200 mps, as opposed to 3000-4000 -- it makes no sense not to include the original Japanese track in DTS-HD as well.ajmrowland wrote:Apparently, my post didn't post. I'll say it again. DTS-HD never has two audio tracks on the same disc.

I will also be buying the blu-ray of Kiki's Delivery Service. So, I will be skipping this rerelease. I'm sure the features from this 2010 release will be on the blu-ray! The features are probably good, but not worth re-buying until there is more of an incentive.slave2moonlight wrote:So, I'm a huge fan of Kiki's Delivery Service, but I have the previous DVD release. Is it worth upgrading to the new release, or do you all recommend waiting for a blu-ray?
On another note, I wish the previous Ghibli dvd covers had some sort of "together-ness" like the new ones will with its blue banners.

Slightly OT - Whew! It sure has been a long time since I've posted on this board. It's so good to be back!
Anyway, I'm really excited about this whole thing. The first Miyazaki film that I saw was Kiki's Delivery Service, and I really loved that film. However, I'm really torn if I should get the 2-Disc Special Edition release now, or just wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray.
And I REALLY want to see Ponyo. I've heard many good things about this film, and I don't want to waste any time to finally see this movie.
