Snow White is a "complete" movie. Even Walt Disney himself realized he wasn't going to be able to top it in terms of its emotional scope and entertainment value.

The Jungle Book is fun, but is deeply flawed by recycled animation, poor writing in places, voice tracks all over the place, character models all over the place -- in short, it is a movie filled with cheap shortcuts that is better than it has a right to be because of great songs and a great score. Sound familiar? It's the same recipie as the Katzenberg films. "the film doesn't have to be THAT good..." "we've got great songs, that will carry us over the cheap drawing" etc. Because of the shortcuts, the Jungle Book, while fun, is a pimple on Snow White's ass.

And you and Walt are perfectly entitled to your opinions. In the meantime, many of the rest of us find Snow White memorable only for being the first animated film from the studio. I personally find the movie to be inferior to many that followed it (including several of the modern films). The animation is superb, but that cannot save an otherwise flat film.

Anyway, I'm glad there don't seem to be too many new features, considering I don't think I want to re-buy it when I find the Platinum Edition pretty fulfilling already. It's mostly only good if you want a Blu-Ray version of the film, but, considering I haven't gone Blu at the moment, I'm most likely not getting this. The box for the $260 set is nice though.

Beautiful. But the framing would've been better if you kept the movie's OAR.

I just got an email from Disneystore.com that says if you pre-order Snow White on blu-ray you get $10 off a future purchase. However, there's a bunch of fine print -- you won't get the discount code until they ship it (10/6), and you have to redeem the code by 10/18/09. However, the blu ray is only $24.99 instead of the $29.99 we've usually been seeing these blu ray "combo packs" for. So if you can see yourself buying something at Disneystore.com then, it's like getting the blu ray for only $14.99, which is a pretty good deal.

I would jump right on it if I could use the coupon now, but I'm not sure if there's going to be stuff I want in October, so I'm going to wait a little while longer to decide if I want to do it.

I was really disappointed when Disney Store decided to give away a coupon when you pre-order instead of a cool giveaway. In the past, they usually have lithographs if you buy in store and if you buy online, you would also get a plush set and a pin. And When Snow White came out on DVD for the first time, it was a pin, 4 litho set, and a free Disney DVD of your choice (from the 9 Limited Issues that had just gone out of print). I was hoping they would have at least done a pin.

However, I am getting the box set and Disney Store isn't selling it (yet) for whatever reason, so I pre-ordered through Amazon.com.

And many people breathe thorugh their mouths and barely passed high school, that doesn't mean I have to give a damn about their opinions.

I hate when people are called "mouth-breathers". My nose is still recovering from that operation, and I still have to breathe through my mouth.

Well, to be honest, I hardly take online posters with god complexes seriously either.

No idea.

I have a feeling it's a chapter in a multi-part documentary.

I am really intrigued regarding the Snow White Returns item , as I , even as a Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs obsessive , have certainly never heard of any such planned sequel , however the Seven Dwarfs were so popular as chacters that Walt Disney would I'm sure made another "potful of money" had he made such a movie as a follow up. Hovever it's still very surprising that it's never come to light before!

Perhaps "Snow White Returns" is about the endless number of re-releases and restorations of Snow White? Who knows... :p

Any French Language Blanche Neige Cover Art Examples???

Post by Deco King »

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a post in relation to the then forthcoming release of Sleeping Beauty , which was illustrated with about four or five different examples of French language Cover Art , whether it was in relation to the French or the French Canadian release of Sleeping Beauty I have no idea?

I therefore wondered whether there were similar variation pieces of Snow White or rather Blanche Neige Et Les Sept Nains Cover Art??

I thought I would sum up the new bonus features that we know about thanks to the BBFC.

-"Someday My Prince Will Come" Music Video by Tiffany Thornton (04:01)
-Through the Decades: A New Century (16:27)
-The One That Started it All (04:05)
-Snow White Returns (8:22)
-Voice Talent (06:18 )

Many bonus features from the 2001 Platinum Edition are being recycled. Here are the features that the BBFC has confirmed will be on the Diamond Edition:

-Storyboard to Film Comparisons: Dwarfs Chase Witch and The Queen's Order
-Theatrical Trailers (8 ranging from 1937 to 2001)
-Abandoned Concepts: Snow White Meets the Prince and The Prince is Captured
-A Trip Through the Walt Disney Studios (10:59)
-How Disney Cartoons Are Made (08:30)
-L.A. Premier (01:06)
-Art and Design (01:14)
-Restoration (05:15)

What will probably also be included:

-Abandoned Concept: SDMPWC Fantasy Version
-Storyboard to Film Comparisons: The Forest Chase and Cleaning House
-Disney Through the Decades: 1930s-1990s with New Century being modified

Of course, Disney has not officially released a complete list of bonus features, but it is assumed that a new documentary will be made in HD for this release. The original Platinum Edition had a text version of the original Brother's Grimm version of the fairy tale and I would like to see a short documentary about them like they did for Hans Christian Andersen on The Little Mermaid. And it is a given that there will be some form of new game or activity on the new release as well.

Hmm I might repurchase this re-release after all, heck my copy does skip here/there only due to me watchin the film mutliple times over the years. I'm actualy pleased with the bonus feats this time around and quite curious bout the Snow White Returns feature, guessin it might be a possible NEW restoration bonus (For Blue Ray)

Well, The One That Started it All has a larger runtime now, but it is odd that Snow White Returns was reclassified with the same length. Perhaps they changed part of the narrative or something?
