The Environment Thread Volume 2
Becareful when ordering Planet Earth. There are TWO versions of it.
The $50 version is narrated by David Artinbough (sp?). This is the BBC version. Same footage, different narrator.
The USA version seems to only be available through Discovery.com and Discovery Store at the moment and it runs $150. That is the one narrated by Susan Surrandon.
In case someone is picky about narrators.

Actually Siren, Segourney Weaver narrates the US version.

I would really like "Planet Earth," but I don't know which set I should get (each are about $50 or $60 on DeepDiscountDVD I think). It is supposed to look fantastically superb in high-definition, much better than standard DVD. But my familiy only has a DVD player and are not upgrading to Blu-Ray/HD DVD for a few more years now because of the prices of the players (we'll probably go with Blu-Ray). Any ideas? The purchase won't be any time soon I would just like to know what to get because this is an amazing mini-series that I would watch again and again. It sort of reminds me of the TLA
Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance

Okay, apparently only the DVD has the "Disc 5" bonus features. So I'll probably go with that one. Can't some players upconvert the picture to almost HD-like quality? So it will kinda be like the Blu-Ray/HD DVD picture quality?

You saw it on TV in Canada? What time? Was it on Discovery Channel?Chernabog_Rocks wrote:I saw Planet Earth on today, however it was almost half way in by the time I started watching. It was narrated by Richard Atinburough (sp?) I'm assuming, since the voice was male. The episode was called From Pole To Pole.

I don't know if any of you remember me posting stuff about how the navy is killing marine Life. They are using sonar waves that blast whales in most cases killing them. If you're interested in reading about this, click on the link below.

I also discovered a website that holds great imformation on whales and how countries are starting the practice whaling once again. One on those countries is Japan.

Sounds really cool and interesting. But the pricetag of $510 is just a tad high.Beastboyravenz wrote:Fisrt solar cell phone. Read about it.

Guys, the goverment wants to poison prairie dogs. This makes no sense to me. But if you can please send in the letter and personalize it, let the goverment know you think their insane. One may aske"why are prairie dogs so vital?". Well they feed eagles and are an important part of the food chain.
If you would like to make your opinion heard/read send in the letter.

Found a great website on Green Living. There's everything from recycling to make-up and skincare lines. From cleaning products to shampoo and cosmetics.
Just explore the website and read around.

Also have any of you guys heard of the Live Earth concerts?

Remeber I said I was going to post pics or things I recycle? I actually have some pics, but decided not to post them. When you're about to toss anything to the garbage can, just think. Ask yourself can this be recycled?
Things that people usually toss are clothing tags, empty ketchup bottles. bills. I've actually witnessed my neighbors throwing paper to the trash. People need to get educated on recycling. I was talking to a girl in my art class and she told me that she doesn't recycle because her building only has one huge trash can. Isn't that horrible? It's unfair, there should be two garbage disposals. One for regular waste and another for recycling. When you think about it most of the things one throws to the trash are recycables. I recommend getting a recycling bin. At my house we have a regualr trash can, a recycling bin and a bottle bin. It keeps everything organized.
I actually took the liberty of buying everyone in my family recycling bins. Now everyone in my family recycles. Everyone takes me seriously and respects how I feel about recycling. Now the blue bins are always full and we accumulate less trash. This might sound dumb, but the feeling one gets when one sees that people can change is a real nice feeling. I've gotten my family to be aware of how their daily lives impact the Planet.
Have any of you guys planted tress lately? I've planted tree trees. I have one tree and have to idea where to plant it. It's a California Sycamore. What should I do? my dad has offered to neighbors, but nobody wants it.
If you're looking to throw away your electronics visit erecycle.org
Have you guys seen any music videos sending out Environmetal issues messages? So far I've seen a couple. I think Linkin Park has one. So does this other band I can't remember. I don't know if any of you have heard of Paulina Rubio? Her newest video is Environmet related. I think it's cool that celebrities are ddemonstrating their concern. Hopefully they can get their fans to follow their beliefs.
Another webiste on green living. Check it out.

You have more engergy efficent bulbs than I do Anthony, I only have two so far, but I'm hoping my Dad picks some more up. Here's an updated list of what I do for the environment/nature as of late:
- Visits up to SPCA (when I have a ride since it's rather far away)
- Homemade birdfeeders in front and backyard
- Recycle Carboard, Paper, Pop Bottles, Beer Cans, starting to work on Glass now
- Energy Saving lightbulbs
- Putting a sweater on or wrapping in blanket if I'm cold (instead of turning heat on)
- Using my mp3 player as background noise instead of leaving the T.V on all night
- Running Washer, Dryer and Dishwasher on full loads only
That's all I can actually think of right now, I'm using a lot less battery's now that I've found my Charger for the rechargeable kind.

I had a rotten day. I went grocery shopping with my mom. We paid for everything and my mom checked the receipt. They had charged us $3.84 more. She told me to ask the guy for what, he told me it was for the water we bought. The point is they ripped us off and I couldn't even defend myself. I feel awful right now. I feel like an air head retard. Plus my mom went off on me for not standing up for myself. She apologized; although, I still feel really bad. I let myself down.
Sorry if I used the inappropritate thread to express how I feel right now. The reason why I wrote all this is beacause it's important for everyone to defend themselves. Regardless of anything one must always stand up for themselves. I guess expiriences like this one will teach not to be convinced so easily.
It's nice to see you guys after such a long time.

2 bulbs is great! They say that it makes a difference even if you just have 1 in your home. The ones I've purchased save you an average of $66 per year on your energy bill. That's a savings of $5.50 per bulb per month! That's amazing! And they last up to six times longer than regular bulbs.Chernabog_Rocks wrote:You have more engergy efficent bulbs than I do Anthony, I only have two so far, but I'm hoping my Dad picks some more up.
I just can't say enough good things about these bulbs.
