Or--multiple copies of that movie were stolen and traded in for cash.

As I mentioned previously, that's a primary reason why GameStop stopped offering cash for DVDs. Stores close by a Walmart, Target or Best Buy would frequently get flooded with multiple copies of the same titles. This is also why GameStop since has a policy about not accepting trades of duplicate copies of the same title.

Not too dissapointed by this news... Most of the dvds they sold there were crap (like Hitch or Spiderman), although I did find Peter Pan (special ed) and snow white there, but that did not have the gold disc...

At this point, I'm going to assume that my store isn't going to sell DVD's anymore. (The guy I talked to could have been wrong, but I find it a little unlikely because I believe he was the manager). If that is the case, I'm planning on finding and transfering the hard-to find, OOP Disney DVD's ASAP. I'm hoping to get ones like The Jungle Book LI (for it's OAR- Fullscreen), and possibly Pinocchio GC. I also might see if I can get the CE of Atlantis and a few treasures. I also know I'm going to have to find a Sleeping Beauty so I can transfer it and (finally) have a slipcover to go with my copy. If I get lucky, I can get these things transfered before the end of the summer. (I hoping anyway...not too sure if I'll be able to find rare, OOP Disney DVD's where I'm going to college...kind of in the middle of nowhere in the midwest. :P )

I sure am hoping that my store isn't going to stop selling DVD's anytime soon! I'm running low on $$ and I'm not sure I can afford to get all of the OOP Disney DVD's I want ASAP...

I feel ya, sista (although, being a guy, I feel awkward saying that)...I am almost certain that the GameStop closest to me (and easiest to get to) is going to stop selling DVDs, because it is only a fes stores down from Wal Mart. I am getting pissed about this because GameStop shouldn't have to suffer. If Wal Mart can't keep their security under control, they should stop selling DVDs. It's not like their selection is any good.

Anyways, at one of my GameStops (the one that is located near a Wal Mart), I see a million copies of the 2005 remake "The Boogeyman". Thanks to the stupid theivs, hard-core transferers (aka me and brotherbear) have to suffer. I do wonder, though, if (even when those select few GameStops stop selling the DVDs), you can still transfer from a GameStop

Not quite sure if this will answer your question since the way you phrased it is a little confusing to me, but my GameStop district doesn't do transfers for customers at all. I didn't know that was even permitted, but I'll sure as heck ask when I'm at work today.

My district does interstore transfers only at the request of Corporate, District Mgr, or store mgr requests approved by a District Mgr.

It's funny you ask, since I just thought of it yesterday on my way to work. But, no, I haven't had a chance. I'd only go on a Saturday, since they have that deal you told me about, and I'm not ever up that way on the weekends. But, eventually, I'd still love to go. Plus, my spending goes in waves (for Disney movies, I'm in the market for DCOMs at the moment, and I'm putting those on hold and spending my money on some music & stuff for my mp3 player). But, when I have spending $ for movies again, I will try and go there!!! I really will! :)

If the upcoming DCOM movies are less than $20, and you have DVDs you want to get rid of, you could either get it for free or for less than 50% off depending on the retail price.

MovieStop currently has a trade-in program where you can trade in 4 DVDs and get one of the current week's new releases for free. Or you can trade-in 4 DVDs toward a reserve/pre-order of a new release with up to a $19.99 value. And yes, that includes upcoming box sets.

Since my wife and I subscribed to Netflix (and I can check out DVDs for free since I work at GameStop... at least until they stop carrying DVDs altogether), I've been downsizing my DVD collection.

Yesterday, I traded in 8 DVDs at MovieStop and 4 of them scored me a brand-new copy of "Tex Avery's Droopy: The Complete Theatrical Collection" for free, and the rest I put on a pre-order for Darkwing Duck Vol 2.

Just trying to be helpful.

Maybe someone else reading this thread will take advantage of MovieStop's deal. Works great for me since between 2000-05 I bought a ton of pre-owned DVDs for less than $5 just to watch them since back then they were cheaper than renting from Blockbuster and I hadn't heard of Netflix yet.

If I'm not going to watch something more than once and the movie itself has no particular sentimental/nostalgic value, I trade 'em in.

Oh, and it's Voiceroy, btw. Don't mean to nitpick, but it's an intentional pun.

Thanks to Voiceroy's information, I finally made it to a MovieStop, the Columbus location. I had the same look on my face that Randall had in Clerks when he walked into Choice Video. I've never seen a movie store that big. I didn't find any used OOP Disney DVD's unfortunately, but they did stock many in-print titles that are hard to find elsewhere. This is great for me, because I hate shopping online. I'll be hitting this place whenever I have spare cash.

Last week I did finally buy my very first used DVD, a copy of 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure at my local GameStop. It had some light scratches, but plays perfectly, and the case and insert were in great condition.

I need to go to GameStop soon and peruse their DVD section, I haven't been there since late March. I was just getting tired of my GameStop's somehwat boring selection, but I will go this weekend and see if there are any good deals.

Hey....I went to Moviestop here in Orlando (Kirkman Road) today and someone must have unloaded a lot of their collection. They run a sale where you can buy 2 kids DVDs (Disney DVDs are in that category) and get one free on Saturday. I went to reserve some items for Saturday and stumbled across a used Snow White Platinum edition for $19.99. If anyone needs to get one call them and ask them to hold it. It's still sitting on the shelf.

Just wanted to get the word out. They have a LOT of good DVDs this week.

Hey,

If anyone in the Orlando area needs Snow White "Platinum Edition" or Beauty and the Beast, Moviestop on Kirkman has them in. I just left there and BATB has the slipcover and is used (GREAT condition) for $14.99. Snow White is used as well and in GREAT condition for $19.99.

Just thought I would pass this along.

FYI.....At Moviestop whenever a new version of a Disney movie comes out people swap their old ones in. I know there are a ton of the old Peter Pan dvds and yesterday I saw the Aristocats there since it was announced there would be a 2-disk version. If you're in the Orlando area and need to complete your collection with some older titles, the Moviestop on Kirkman is great.
