I just don't see Belle as snobbish. Maybe the small provincial town is not for Belle because the villagers there are all wrapped up in their own routine lives and existence, and the majority of them look down on her. She's perfectly mannered to them all in the opening number, and the only one who gives her the time of day is the book seller. At the first opportunity, Gaston rallies around all these townsfolk who turn against Belle and her father. And with shallow air headed bimbo's, arrogant, brainless braggarts, or simpering sidekicks like Lefou, is it any wonder Belle turns to books instead of associating with the townsfolk.Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:Belle. A provencial town is not for her high standards. Maybe if she wasn't so snobish and if she wasn't called Belle (Beauty), considering that she's not extremly beautiful- just normal, I could like her much more. It's just a personal opinion again. It just isn't right to see more of her and not Jasmine, let's say, among the other princesses.
As for her beauty, I think the design of Belle is stunning. She may not have the 'model' style looks of a Cinderella or Aurora, or the exotic beauty of Jasmine but Belle has a natural beauty, both in her appearance, and from her character within, which is a perfect complement to the themes of the movie.
And I think her voice, provided by Paige O'Hara is delightful. I love hearing Paige sing, and I think she infuses the character of Belle with a delightful sense of fun and energy.
As a character I think she's one of the most well rounded of the Disney Princesses, she's feisty, intelligent, beautiful and is able to see the true beauty that lies within.
Of course, it doesn't hurt my opinion that Beauty and the Beast is my favourite Disney movie, and Belle is my favourite Disney character.

I totally agree that she is intensely cruel, but I just can't say that is the same thing as scary. I wouldn't want to leave my pets around her, but I wouldn't really be afraid of her doing something to me. At least, not something deadly. Maybe she would, but I wouldn't expect it. Another words, she just doesn't spur any feelings of fear in me.

I LOVE 101 Dalmatians, but I do think it is probably a bit overrated compared to other Disney animated features.darth_deetoo wrote:Always thought 101 Dalmatians was a bit overrated. Although I did enjoy it a bit more when I rewatched it recently. Still, don't see why it was picked as one of the original platinum titles when films like Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty were left out.

She does come off as a tad snobbish at times, though not more than I am used to seeing girls act, ha, but as for her beauty, she is drop-dead gorgeous, especially with her hair down. Certainly not the norm where I live! With her hair down, her beauty rivals Ariel's! Jasmine is very beautiful, in the original movie at least, but nowhere near as gorgeous as Belle. I suppose it's a matter of personal taste, but I suspect most guys would say Belle is at least more beautiful than the norm. I confess though, girls aren't that pretty where I live and they do seem to be much more attractive in every other state I visit. Still, I don't think the Belle level beauties outnumber everyone else and qualify as the "norm."Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:Belle. A provencial town is not for her high standards. I still daresay that Maleficent is more overrated thsn Cruella ever was, and certainly more at the moment. I think her motive was much sillier than Cruella's - it would be rather like Sauron going to war because Galadriel wouldn't go on a date with him. The motive meant that, while she was scary at first glance, thinking of the motive just made me giggle a little bit. Cruella's scariness comes more from her motive - she doesn't just want to kill her opponents, she wears them, and has been succeeding in doing so for many years now. Plus I just found her more entertaining.slave2moonlight wrote:This came up in the "underrated" thread, but I have to say that one character that seems overrated to me, as much as I love the character, is Cruella. I found her wildly entertaining, but I just don't find her that "scary," as people often seem to. She is a lot of people's favorite Disney villain, and I have never felt that way about her. Not sure who my fave is, maybe Hades, but I think Maleficent is probably the most intimidating.
I also have trouble taking Maleficent seriously now, as she looks an awful lot like the female equivalent of Monty Python's Tim the Enchanter.
I completely agree with you. Tinkerbell should not be overrated because of her slightly cocky personality. That is part of the character; she was intended to be like that. But I see nothing wrong with annoyance simply at the overuse of her character.Bah, all this whining because Tink tried to have Wendy killed... The heroes often try to kill the villains. To Tink, Wendy was a villain for trying to steal Peter. And, how is she a hero? Well, she saved Peter's life for one thing. That's pretty major and important. And, after that moment, we see that she really is more important than anyone to Peter. She's far closer to a love interest for him than even Wendy was.
Anyway, you can't weigh Tink's views on killing/death as heavily as human characters. She's not human, and the characters of Disney's Neverland live in a child-minded world where little importance is given to things like death and attempted murder. They're not fully understood, just like romance, which is one of the reasons Wendy didn't fit in. She was already getting too old for that sort of mentality.

People have said Stitch a lot I think. Personally, I like him. I don't think he's at all obnoxious, but I do think he's overly used on merchandise and stuff. I don't know if that's the true definition of overrated. I guess it depends on who is doing the overrating. Apparently, the Disney company has a very high opinion of him. I guess they got that from the consumer. I don't know. Maybe we are just complaining about characters that are overexposed,... but maybe that's the same thing... As a character though, I like Stitch. I find Lilo obnoxious (though I don't dislike her), but Stitch is just this animal that is engineered to be a pest.Big Disney Fan wrote:Doesn't anyone think Stitch is overrated, too? This whole issue people have over Maleficent's motives always amuses me. Obviously the snub at Aurora's party was just the tip of the iceberg in a longstanding feud and it just tipped her over the edge. It's backstory, but we don't need to know it. It's no lesser motivation than many of the other Disney villains.

Thank you! Just listen to the lines said when she first appears in the movie. The lines she as well as the fairies say obviously indicate some sort of strained relationship between Maleficent and the kingdom. It also seems evident in the scene where the fairies are discussing how to hide Aurora, as lines are said to things Maleficent has done to the kingdom (or at least the fairies) in the past. In my opinion, not getting invited was only the tip of the ice burg, but the other three fairies getting invited really cracked it in half.darth_deetoo wrote:This whole issue people have over Maleficent's motives always amuses me. She was a total brat in the movie. I love Wendy Darling, and Tink tried to almost kill her! I know that she's only supposed to have one feeling at a time or something, but she was just too mean for me to like her. She had her ups and downs. And I'm also kind of annoyed that she's everywhere. I see things all the time that look like something I'd buy except it's Tinkerbell; I wish they would have merchandise for a wider variety of characters.QueenRahel wrote:do you all think tink is overrated cause she doesnt speak??? or what is it about her??? cause i thought everyone loved tink
Stitch is a cutie pie, and he's somewhat of a symbol that Disney's animated classics are (or were) still going on strong, but I do think it's silly that he's often put next to the Fab Five in WDW.

I think that finding nemo and stitch are the most overrated. But they sell so thats why they are.
Belle, being one of my favorite disney princesses, seems to me like she is one of the least produced. She is always in her yellow ball gown with this weird look on her face. Oh, and she's holding a rose. I would like to see more of her and the beast, and I'd like to see her in her blue outfit.
I also like the idea of a princes line. Would have loved that if it was around when I was younger.

I don't really see Belle as snobbish at all either. In my opinion, she is definitely the most balanced of the princesses.
And I wish they had Belle with her blue outfit more often too as well as Aurora in her peasent outfit (Is that what it's called?) I hate her pink dress, I think it looks so much better blue.
