Predict how much the 2007 Disney films will earn

well Bridge To Terabithia made $29 million over the 4-day weekend. Congrats to Disney and Walden Media. Now let's hope people aren't too shocked by this falsely advertised film and tell everyone about it so it can make over $100 million.

Surprised by how strongly it opened. Though the movie is better than the one being promoted, I have to think that marketing it on its own true merits would have yielded something closer to my predicted gross (around $60 M). Now, does the fact that it's not a real fantasy hurt its legs or the fact that it's a good movie help it? I think the former, though if it made $100 M, that'd be a terrific surprise for Disney and a boost to the inaccurate promotion model.

Well, there goes my prediction. I guess I shouldn't underestimate Walden Media.

*glances over to WM, sees Hoot, How to Eat Fried Worms and Around the World in 80 Days*

Uh, nevermind.

Also, completely random - But Roving Mars is NOT on DVD, right? I only ask because this morning I noticed our Dish Network Pay-Per-View is now carrying it. I'm interested to see if anyone has seen it and if it's any good, because I'm kinda tempted to see it.

Nope. Ever since it quietly missed its August 1st release date last year, it has been strangely MIA. Some recent DVD promoted it, though, so it's probably bound to turn up by this summer. Though you and the one person who's e-mailed me about it multiple times may be the only two who care! Well, plus me if I review it...

I'm way under on Bridge to Terabithia myself. It should pass my prediction by the end of this coming weekend. (Though its totals were slightly, artificially boosted by last week's Wild Hogs sneak preview screenings.) Hoot and How to Eat Fried Worms should have been advertised as CGI-heavy fantasies, I guess!

I actually went to the Wild Hogs sneak preview, but didn't stay for Terabithia since my friends and I had already seen it. As for advertising Hoot and HTEFW, it might have helped the former, but nothing could save the latter.

Wait, so buying a ticket to the sneak preview of Wild Hogs got you free admission to Bridge to Terabithia too? Or the other way around? I've always wondered how those types of things work. I guess if technically you were buying admission to Terabithia it's fair that it goes to its gross.

Basically, if you see a sneak preview of a movie, and the next movie in that auditorium after the sneak preview is from the same company, you can stay and watch it for free, e.g., Wild Hogs and Terabithia, We Are Marshall and Unnacompanied Minors, and The Holiday and Stranger Than Fiction are three recent sneak preview double features that I recall.

In other words, by purchasing a ticket to Wild Hogs, I had the choice of staying and watching Terabithia for free.

Bridge is holding up surprisingly well after a hard second weekend drop. I guess some sort os word of mouth is kicing in.

Most interesting is how it rose above Ghost Rider over the weekend to 3rd place. It was #4 the week before. Definitely a critical/commercial succes for Disney.

It's too bad Wild Hogs isn't on this list - it's up to $103 million already.

We finally saw Bridge to Terabithia this weekend. It stayed true to the book a lot better than I thought it would. I cried at the end, even though I knew what was going to happen. The movie really brought the book to life - I was impressed.

It will definitely pass up Eight Below's total box office.
