Well, it's okay. But I can't say what I'm thinking or I'll reveal the ending! We should leave it open until the movie comes out!

Messed Up Pumpkin Coach

Post by Disney Duster »

By simply going to the first page, scrolling down, and hitting "post reply", I can easily avoid your evil attempts to ruin the ending for me (unlike Cinderella, who's happy ending is ruined for her).

So why am I here? Four words: Messed up pumpkin coach.

A while back, back when everyone was innocent and didn't know much about Cinderella III, I discovered a shirt on eBay that, according to the seller, was given to the crew who worked on Cinderella III. The front of the shirt had a logo just like the Cinderella II logo, except for the added I. But on the back...oh man, something that excited me! An image of Cinderella's pumpkin-turned-coach, or pumpkin-almost-turned-coach. It was not exactly a full transformation, like the Fairy Godmother was lazy and kind of half-assed the magic. On top of that, it seemed to have a look of evil to it, what with vines sticking out and thorns growing on it. Here, I've assembled the images from the front and back into one whole picture:
Image
Of course, I had no idea how that would fit in. I was thinking it was probably just a logo created to show this sequel would be much like the first Cinderella, but with an added evil. But the official Cinderella III Web site begged to differ with me. In the gallery, it clearly showed an image of Cinderella, in an almost-wedding gown, riding a purple horse (right, altlanticaunderthesea? ), right alongside a...messed up pumpkin coach. Now, maybe you guys already know how it fits in, but the only thing I could guess is Jaq and Gus tried to transform a pumpkin on their own, and it didn't quite work as well for them as it did for the Fairy Godmother. But then again, the coach does have a look of evil to it. One thing's for sure. There isn't just a twist in time, but a twist on the pumpkin coach. In other words, it looks twisted:
Image
The pumpkin coach happens to be my favorite relic from Cinderella, so I'm very glad to see its return...its sort of return. Of course, the image of the coach from the crew shirt would have been far more interesting to everybody here if they didn't already know what's gonna happen. But it interests me because I didn't ruin the ending for myself...

:P Okay I'm going...

I love your ideas on the pumpkin coach Disney Duster and don't worry you won't be disappionted with its role in the film (he he- I wish I had your disipline but I had to read the spoiler :D ).

On the matter of the shirt I was just curious, did you buy it off ebay cause I'm thinking it would have been a major bidding battle to win considering the films press or did you get it before the info on Cindy III was really out there? Just wondering cause that shirt is cool! :D :D :D :D

Woah...sorry I waited so long to answer you. I just was worried that something would be spoiled for me but I should have known you would be careful. I finally read your post, slowly scrolling down, then realized your post was safe. I know I found the shirt before the second trailer for Cinderella III came out. The auction apparently got 0 bids! I don't think anyone knew about it, and since Cinderella III almost wasn't aware to the public yet, no one would search for items for a movie that hadn't come out yet! Except perhaps me! I'm actually going to E-mail the seller about the shirt, and try to get him to auction it again (apparently you're not aloud to buy it outright).

I didn't want to tell anyone because I greedily wanted the shirt for myself, but if you really would like to try your hand at getting the shirt, just ask me and I'll give out the link. You are a dedicated fan and deserve a shot at it if you really want it.

some more spoiler info

Post by kurtadisneyite »

(SKIP this if you don't like SPOILERS - most of this info comes from the small Random House paperback, and the Coloring book "A Perfect Fit", which is quite accurate wrt C-III's plot). When the larger book with more art is published later this year, more will become revealed.

Three spoilers of note:

The re-introduction of Prudence (from C-II) in a bit part,

A scary ride inside the diabolical pumpkin coach the stepmother whips up to get rid of Cinderella (Lucifer becomes the coach's driver!). Cindy's not passive in this sequence - she and the mice work together to free herself, Lucifer-Driver ends up flying into the lake (Bad Kitty), and Cindy rides bareback on the horseto the Prince to stop the wedding between him and the "looks-like-Cindy" Anastasia (who is not at all sure she wants to go through it).

The Hoppety-Hooper reward both Tremaine and Drizella get at the end.
I'll leave out the details, but suffice to say both Cindy and the Prince stand up against the stepmother and her wand, and the Magic the stepmother tries to use against them ends up bouncing off the princess's sword.

Also, I sincerely hope C-III doesn't have el-dumb-o plot aspects C-II was blessed with:

In C-II;
Episode 1 middle has the heroine, in work outfit, walking through town handing invitations to all her friends.
(I didn't bother with episode 2 other than note the CGI ferris wheel).
Episode 3 opening has the heroine exiting castle, again in same work outfit she wore in episode 1, to which mice ask her "why are you dressed like that?". To which Cindys' explanation ended with the proclamation "it's a Disguise!"

My apologies, but that plot twist's right down there with SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS. There, one martian, Dropo, his head outfitted with martian visored gas pipe, and kitchen utensils, puts on a spare Santa Claus suit over his headdress. Later, the Martian villains trying to kidnap the real Santa Claus mistake Dropo for the real Santa.
Oy.

Okay, I've seen the movie, so here's my little (whoa, okay. Finished it now, I did nót mean for it to become so huge. Ah well) review. Spoilers ahead, of course.

Story:
I'll just recap everything in chronological order. The beginning really annoyed me. Cinderella's narration made me cringe so much, I didn;t pay attention to what she said. Luckily, the movie started (with a cringeworthy song, but more on that when I discuss the songs;)). The one thing that annoyed me most about the first sequence was the 'perfect anniversary party' the Godmother and mice organized for Cindy and her Prince. If it's so perfect, why were they (and the two bluebirds) the only ones there? Where were Bruno, the horse, all the other mice? It seemed like a pretty pathetic party.
They jumped to Anastasia wanting to find real love, which for me was a bit too soon. She's an ugly stepsister, I don't wánt to know what she wants. As soon as she finds the 'stick' (I love how Lady Tremaine says that ^^), the story kicks off. The Fairy Godmother gets taken care of right at the beginning, so she won't be able to just bibbidi-bobbidi-boo a happy ending. I lóved the Twist In Time-spell. That was such a great sequence. The Grand Duke comes, the slipper fits, Anastasia goes nuts.
Cinderella break her habit of sitting silently in the background by saying it was her slipper. I know many hearts will get broken by the image of the other slipper breaking. It's the sign that Cinderella's dreams won't come true, even though she was só close to getting everything she ever wanted. I know I've been watching the rest of the movie with a broken heart (which is a bíg compliment to this sequel). Unfortunately, she breaks the mood by starting to sing. Fortunately, it's the best song in the movie. She thinks the Prince will remember her when he sees her, so she sets off to the castle.
Once there, it's clear she can't get through the guards that easily... or can she? She uses the servants entrance and finds herself inside the castle. There she's spotted by none other than Prudence. She thinks of a rather flimsy excuse, but manages to pull it off with the help of Jaq and Gus.
Now we get to see more of the Prince, although he's basically saying what we already knew. He wants to find a girl he loves. Still, the scene works pretty well, thanks to the image of his mother. It's nice to finally see her. And thankfully, the King is himself again, not the weird imposter we got to see in Cinderella II. The Prince sees Anastasia and realizes she's not the one from the ball. He says he's sorry for the mixup and walks off. Lady Tremaine has other plans. The spells really work amazingly well in this movie.
The Prince now thinks Anastasia is the one he danced with, so when Cinderella finally finds him, she's too late. They look into each others eyes and he starts to remember... but the spell is too strong (although this scene does give you a hint that the spell is breakable). Cinderella is heartbroken again, but Jaq and Gus tell her what happened to the Prince. Cinderella now knows about the magic, and it's time to get the wand back!
Next up is a comical scene. Not much more to say about that, it's just there as comic relief. Just like the scene with Anastasia and the Prince dancing. Although the latter has a touching of hand, which becomes very important throughout the rest of the movie.
I loved the gift the King gives Anastasia. I didn't love Anastasia, but I loved the gift ^^ Again, this scene hints at the change Anastasia is undergoing throughout the movie.
Now, Anastasia has a little (very, very short) song about what she wants. It's basically a reprise of Perfectly Perfect.
Cinderella enters her stepmother's room, disguised as a maid. Lady Tremaine has seen her as a maid almost every day of her life, so she's immediate disposed. Jaq and Gus now have the wand, and a chase begins.
Now comes the chase-scene we all know from the eight-minute preview. It's a very exciting one, which will keep you at the end of your seat. Cinderella is just about to set things right, when... she gets cought and banished from the kingdom. She tries to tell the Prince he's under a spell and their hands touch. The Prince is now seriously doubting his marriage with Anastasia. Is she really the one from the ball? Jaq and Gus explain to him (using a song, of course) she's not. The Prince seems a bit gullable (I'm under a spell? That explains everything!), but hey, how else were they going to convince him?
He decides to go after Cinderella, who's been put on a boat to Somewhere. We see the boat leaving, while the Prince is still racing on his horse. Will he be there in time? Of course not. But he does fly (fall) through the air and lands on the boat, which is just as good and predictable. He holds Cindy's hand and they both know they've found true love.
But wait, there's more! Lady Tremaine finds out about all this, but she's not ready to give up (and why would she be? She didn't change history to just give up when things go wrong). She disappears, just like Anastasia and Drizella. Everything seems just dandy and Cinderella changes into her wedding dress. That's when Lady Tremaine reappears (which was done quite nicely, with her holding Lucifer). She says the Prince wants to marry Cinderella, and he will marry Cinderella. Enter Anastacia, disguised as Cinderella (hereafter referred to as Anastella). I like how they kept Anastasia's mouth. It's not a big difference, but enough to always let you know who's who.
Cinderella gets put inside a pumpkin (I wonder why, Lady Tremaine never knew about the pumpkincoach), along with Jaq and Gus. Lucifer gets to be the driver.
This scene works pretty good, but I was a bit disappoinet by it. I had seen this screenshot, which looks absolutely horrifying. I was disappointed when the coach grew bigger and it was actually quite spacious. I think this would have worked better if the inside was confining and dirty, but that's just me. I did enjoy the scene, and Cindy's 'bad kitty', horrible pun though it may be, made me laugh.
Meanwhile, in the castle. The Prince and Anastella are about to get married, while Lady Tremaine and Drizella watch behind some curtains. Will Cinderella be in time to stop the wedding? Of course she is. But, for some reason, she just stands there looking at it. Then, Anastella says she won't take the Prince as her husband. Lady Tremaine bursts out of the shadow and there's magic galore. She tries to turn Anastella into a toad, but Cinderella jumps in front of her. So, Lady Tremaine changes the spel to turn two people into toads. No problem, two toads it'll be. The Prince reflects the spell with his sword, so guess which two people turning into toads?
Anastella apologizes and tells Cinderella and the Prince to be happy together. She picks up the wand and... turns herself back to normal. Cinderella thanks her (why? She still ripped your dress, was horrible to you for years, stole your happily ever after...), takes the wand and turns the Fairy Godmother back to normal (er... when did she find out about Granny being stoned?). She's can be happy ever after... again.
The end.

Characters:
Cinderella is much more active in this movie. She knows what she wants, and she goes to get it. Go Cindy ^^
The Prince still doesn't have a name. Yay!He's also much more active and gets quite a lot of screentime. No complaints here, he's a likeable Prince.
Anastasia, of course, changed a lót. Sorry dear, you'll always be a b*tch in my heart.
The rest seems pretty true to their former selves. It's just a real shame we doidn't get to see Bruno anymore. It seems weird to me that Cinderella would just leave him at the Tremaine residence, I think he should have been in Perfectly Perfect.

Songs:
Perfectly Perfect is a very cringeworthy song. Just read the title, that's just horrible. And I wasn't ready to hear Anastasia singing about true love. I still hated her!
More Than A Dream was the song I already knew pretty much by heart. Still the best song from the movie, even if the beginning is a bit awkward.
Anastasia's Theme is a reprise of Perfectly Perfect. Anastasia sings about true love again, so I'll not comment.
At The Ball. No Cinderella-movie without a mice-song. This felt like an Animaniacs-song to me. I like the Animaniacs, but it was too flimsy to be a part of this movie.
Overall, I would have to agree with others here that the songs were the weakest point of the movie. Which is sad, because songs can do só much to help make a movie great.

Animation:
The animation was better than we've ever seen from DTS, it worked very well. You never forget is a DTS-production, but you do feel for the characters and they do show emotion. I didn't like how Cinderella's nose kept disappearing, but overall I liked it.

Final thoughts:
I enjoyed this movie a lot. This might just be the best Disney DTV to date. This makes you wonder what could have been, had they put as much effortinto other sequels as in this one.
The only thing I'm worried about is seeing Cinderella again. I hope I can be as happy when they get their Happy Ever After, now that I've seen this.
I recommend it.
Asante sana, squash banana, wewe nugu, mimi hapana.

Thanks for the plot summary and the link to the Pumpkin pic. Cindy's expression in that reminds me of when she was getting her dress torn off.

Sorry to hear the songs, save one, are duds...other reviewers have also complained about the songs. I wonder how well the music (minus songs) works in complementing the action.

trivia:
Cindy's nose disappeared a lot in her first feature; just the nature of her design, and a fact that noses are a real headache for Animators to draw.
In fact, Cinderella is one of the hardest Disney heroines to draw correctly, so said a seasoned Disney artist who taught many other Disney artists how to draw the girls.

By comparison, Aurora always had a line defining her nose - sometimes while she's talking you could see the line flip from left to right and back again.

I'm sorry, but I just can't like this movie. I love the original - but it's as though they're taking away the ending from the last movie that the viewers loved. It may be a good movie - but I hope it has the charm and perfection that the original achieved. I'm not a fan of disney tampering with the classics - sequels don't usually create the same magic that the first movies did. I won't be watching this movie because I don't want to spoil the first cinderella. Sorry for not liking it, but I hope you guys enjoy it.

So, now that some of us have the C-III (I don't yet), would anyone care to offer some more spoilers (like, how exactly does Cindy get out of that pumpkin?).

This was one of the best parts of the film in my opinion. First of all, the pumpkin turns into a evil version of the original pumpkin coach, almost exactly like the pictures Disney Duster posted and Lucifer is transformed into a human and told by the stepmother "make absolutely certain they don't come back, alive" and so he starts to drive the coach. Cinderella Quickly decides that they need to stop the coach so Jak and Gus try to take out the pin connecting the horse to the coach, but Lucifer stops them from doing that. While Jak and Gus are attempting this Cinderlla manages to bust open a hole in the side of the carriage wall and climbs out. Right as Lucifer is about to eat Gus, Cinderella yells "Lucifer! Let him go!" and of course Lucifer drops him, in a sarcastic dumbish way because obviously now Gus is going to fall off the coarch but alas Jak is there to save him from falling off. Then Cinderella breaks a vine that ends up breaking Lucifer's seat and he falls of the side of the carriage. Then Cindy says one of my favorite lines in the whole movie "Bad Kity!" The Jak and Gus pull the pin and the carriage goes out of control towards a cliff on the side of the road. From there on you'll have to watch to find out.

thanks for info. I learned what happens after the carriage heads for lake..Lucifer ends up in it, and Cindy on a horse as she rides back to stop "her" own wedding.

I'll bet the animators enjoyed working on that sequence!

FYI, reviews have been pretty decent for this title, most saying it's still DVD quality (not up to original) but one of the best sequels DisneyToons has made.

Everyone keeps says this is 'one of the best'..........what beats it?

From what people have said, it sounds like it is THE best, not just one of them.

I havnt seen every DTV, so I can't really judge, but what are people's opinions who have seen all the DTV ??

Well, like I said in the main Cindy III thread, I'm still debating whether or not this is my favorite DTV. My current favorite is Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin. Both films have their pros and cons. Cinderella has better animation and a better storyline, but Pooh has better songs and voicework. The worst Cindy has to offer makes me cringe while the worst Pooh has to offer is simply bland. On the other hand, Cinderella III has an excitement factor Pooh's Grand Adventure doesn't have, and better pacing, too. A few more views of Cindy III should solidify my opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does officially become my favorite DTV sequel. Even if doesn't, no other DTV sequel comes as close to these two films in terms of quality, in my opinion. The rest are either decent but not great (The Lion King sequels, Lilo & Stitch 2), above average but not quite decent (Pocahontas II, The Little Mermaid II), or absolutely craptacular (Cinderella II, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II).

Cinderella III is probably my favorite Direct-to-Video. To go a little bit off the main topic...

Speaking of the DVD itself, does anyone think Princess Aurora was horribly voiced and completely out of character in the Kingdom of Kindess preview? How come she could never stand still for one second and kept jumping all over the place?!
