just got back from national treasure:book of secrets....
dear disney, what r u pulling here? there were no goofy shorts! r u playing some game???? or is it just exclusive to american audience..but then again....there's always been the pixar shorts bfr every pixar movies..and boat builders bfr robinsons..so where is my goofy short? i was sooo looking forwqrd to it..and the non existence killed my mood for NT2.
on NT2..it was fun but too long for me..or maybe i was still upset thinking about goofy
I can't tell how it's "supposed" to be nowadays, but during the classic age of Disney shorts (50+ years ago) one given short would not be connected to one specific feature as far as I know.
Just a heads up to those in the UK. 'How to Hook Up Your Home Theatre' will not accompany 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets'. Instead it will accompany 'The Game Plan'.
OMG! I have absolutely no interest in watching The Game Plan ... YUK! This means I'm going to have to pay a cinema ticket to just watch the short. I guess I'll still watch The Game Plan while I'm in there (I'd have paid for it after all!).
Still ... eugh! And I'm dying to see that blooming short.
"Tic Tock Tale" will be the computer animated short that your eyes get to grace before watching this new hand-drawn masterpiece [The Princess and the Frog]. Now as for the story, well that'll have to come another post. From what I've heard though, it's quite a nice piece of storytelling with more heart than most of the films that have come out of the Mouse in a long time.
...
Now as for "The Ballad of Nessie" getting done, that is a short that is being done in a very stylized, hand-drawn look and we've not really heard much about it because those artist that like to use pencils were busy on the Frog. Not easy to finish something when you don't have the artist to do so. Again, thanks for getting rid of so many talented 2D artist, Eisner. So once Frog is done they can get around to finishing the "Nessie" short. What the management is trying to do is stem as many layoffs as possible with these short projects. Lasseter and crew understand that it's hard to find talented people and it's even harder to replace them once their gone. If the hand drawn film that comes out in November is a hit it'll provide a great deal of job security. Success tends to do that.
Now as for "Glago's Guest" coming out, there's not really any news I can report as to when we can see that. It's not known if it'll get a theatrical release or be part of a future Blu-Ray/DVD compilation of Disney shorts (think: Lorenzo, Runaway Brain, The Little Matchstick Girl, How to Hook Up Your Home Theater, Glago's Guest, Nessie, and a few others. Maybe = Pixar's Short Collection). But no set date yet.
...
["Prep & Landing" is mentioned, but we've heard new news about that lately.]
...
As well as these there are a few other projects in various stages, but no greenlight for that Eric Goldberg short featuring the "Disney Trio" I was wanting. But another classic Disney character will be getting his very own hand-drawn short. Which one? Sorry, but I can't tell you that right now. Soon hopefully.
It appears that when Walt Disney Animation Studios' "The Princess and the Frog" comes out in November, it may not have the short, "Tic Tock Tale," in front of Musker and Clements' new musical.
There won't be enough artists at WDAS to finish it in time for the November debut. Many of those that were working on the project have been pulled to work on another hand-drawn project (one that'll be out next Valentine's Day). I know that there are more artist out there, but the Mouse is playing it conservatively and not wanting to hire any additional artist only to have them let go right after its completion. Times are tight for these divisions right now. Perhaps after December we can see some sunshine pumped into the cubicles of the Hat Building.
It's not known if there will be another classic short to take its place or if there will be a short in front of it at all, for that matter. So, barring some change in the Mouse's plans, we may have to watch Disney's return to hand drawn animation without a short to go in front of it. But again, just to make it clear, this is a delay not a cancellation of this short. It will be made and it will be shown. Just not in front of the next Disney animated film.
^You know, I was surprised when they didn't show a short with Witch Mountain when it was in the theaters in the spring. They could've maybe attracted a bigger audience if it had a short.
Do you suppose that since the "Tick Tock Tale" might not be attached to "The Princess and the Frog" that maybe we'll get the Disneynature short film "The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos"?
I sort of remember hearing that this was going to be a short film or featurette...not a feature length film. If this Disneynature film is indeed a featurette, it might be a perfect addition to "The Princess and the Frog". Not only will it herald in the resurgence of 2D animation, but celebrate the True Life films as well as short subject/featurette film-making!
Here's hoping that there is at least SOME sort of attachment to "TPatF".

Ya, what's up with Crimson Wing? I thought it was supposed to be a full length feature, and, didn't it get released in France already? Why hasn't it been released here? I thought it was supposed to be the first DisneyNature movie to be released before earth.

Marvel will make a lot more money for Disney than a short subject prior to an animated movie. They can't just hire some animators they might not need after this just so there's something before the movie. It doesn't work that way.

True! Pixar's shorts are regularly slapped in front of their films. But ever since WDAS restarted the shorts program we've had to pray to all the saints in heaven to actually get to see a few of them, well ... one of them.
What happened to the "all future WDAS films will have an attached animated short" talk!? The Goofy short came out with a friggin' live-action film (and The Game Plan in Europe ... like I was going to see that). Glago's Guest has yet to get a proper release and it was completed ages ago. Now God knows what's going to happen to Tick Tock Tale and The Ballad of Nessie.
