I disliked the cover art at first, now it's growing on me. I'm hoping maybe this will come in a double release, similar to Chronicles of Narnia - with one edition having more content than the other. I doubt it - but I'm still hoping.

Anyway, there's still plenty of time for this cover to change. I will be buying it regardless.

dvdjunkie wrote:I think that everyone is being way too critical of the cover of "Cars". Why don't you submit your design to Disney to see what they think? That way if you get turned down because they have a 'better' idea, then you can't complain. Besides you don't watch the cover, you watch the disc inside. Who really cars about the art work on the cover of a DVD.
It's not a big deal, but we're just giving feedback on what's been released so far. That's what a forum is for, right? You've gotta admit, there are better images for this movie than that.

But since it's still early, I'd advise everybody to keep in mind that it'll most likely change.

I have never seen a cover for a Disney movie that I didn't like. You all complain about "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2", but I didn't hear about anyone who submitted what they thought would be a better cover. These guys at Disney get paid a lot more bucks than you and I do to design covers for DVD's and they go with what they think will catch the eye, not what is esthetically pleasing or politically correct.

I think that the present idea for a cover tells the person who didn't see the movie in the theater a little about what the movie is about.

Again, it is like those who complain about disc art, you can't see the disc when it is spinning its 400 rpm's inside your disc player, so who really cares what the disc art is. What is important is what is on the disc. That is what we are paying our hard-earned money for, not for an 'artsy-fartsy' cover.

If all that matters when it comes to what we're paying for is what's on the disc, then no company has any real obligation to provide the following for a DVD:

1. Disc Art
2. Cover Art
3. The all-important slipcover

The way I see it, 1 and 2 are perks, while 3 is of course, unnecessary. Remember back in the early days of DVD, when Disc Art was non-existant and Cover Art was a simple picture with the title?

Studios don't *have* to give is nice shiny pictures on the cover, but they do because it's both a selling point and a perk. So, the consumer, despite not being the ones paid to make the covers, have some right when it comes to voicing their opinion on whether or not they think it's a nice cover. I doubt it would actually hinder someone from buying the DVD, otherwise I never would have picked up a movie like The Black Hole, which had quite possibly one of the worst covers I've ever seen.

Since none of my DVDs face out on the shelf, the DVD spine presentation is more important to me than the cover. I'm not thrilled with the cover art we've seen for Cars, but I can live with it.

Here's two pics I think would be good looking covers, I know one's in French, but if translated to English, it'll be a great cover.

Or, I was also thinking why not have it like they did for the VHS of A Bug's Life, where they had 4 or 5 different covers, one with a different character on it (My picks for characters would be Lightning, Mater, Sally, and Doc) and of those characters I would probably end up buying the Mater one. But I'm pretty sure the cover that's been posted is fake, cause it just looks too fake.

Hey, Disney used to list "full color artwork on disc" as a Special Feature!

I already have a copy of cars on DVD, my friend gave it to me, granted its pirated, but it's absolutely amazing quality :D
I wanted to trade it, along with a Sealed copy of Aladdin for a used or new copy of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs or Sleeping Beauty, but I found out its illegal to trade Pirated DVD's.

I heard it comes out in Australia on October 25th

Hey Pals, you might want to take the non-Cars DVD stuff to a new thread in Off-Topic. It's kind of disappointing to see this thread bumped with positively no news relating to the indicated subject.

I don't see why everyone hates the REAL cover. I think it looks neat, but that's just my two cents.

DVDActive.com
Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced the release of Disney & Pixar's latest animated blockbuster, Cars, which will be available in both widescreen and pan & scan editions on the 7th of November at a retail price of around $29.99. The single-disc release will present the film with an anamorphic transfer at its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and include the brand-new animated short "Mater" as well as the Academy Award nominated short "One Man Band". Other extras will include a behind-the-scenes featurette entitled 'Inspiration For Cars', four deleted scenes, and a preview for Disney & Pixar's upcoming feature, Ratatouille. If anything else gets added to the release we'll be sure to let you know. Stay tuned for the artwork, which should be along shortly.
USA Today
Ka-Chow! Lightning McQueen and the crew from Disney and Pixar's summer hit Cars will cruise into stores on DVD Nov. 7. The disc includes an all-new short film Mater and the Ghostlight. A behind-the-scenes feature, Inspiration for Cars, tells how writer/director John Lasseter made the film, which already has grossed more than $235 million. Also on the $30 DVD is One Man Band, the Academy Award-nominated short that played in theaters before Cars, and four deleted scenes and a sneak peek at next summer's Disney/Pixar animated feature film Ratatouille, about a French rat who aspires to be a chef.
I'm disappointed this isn't a 2-disc filled with bonus features. Doesn't John Lasseter (or better yet, Steve Jobs) have enough power to make this a double disc release? I guess Disney will only give a recent film a 2-disc release if it's a smash hit at the box office, whether or not it's Pixar.

Maybe they are originally releasing a one disc just to screw with us, then release a two disc shortly after so they make more money. Ugh :(

Which as the 45th highest-grossing film of all time, Cars is....

DVD Active is just reiterating what USA Today said and the initial "disc" might have been used synonymously for "DVD", whether or not there are two discs. Here's to hoping that there will be two discs, because double-dips are lame and Pixar hasn't really ever resorted to them since A Bug's Life, their first DVD, which was a clear upgrade in every way.
