I'm excited.
As I understand it, it's a live-action adaptation of the Chinese tale, not the 1998 Disney film. Disney happens to be financing it, but I don't expect Zhang Ziyi to start singing "Reflection" or for a CGI version of Cri-Kee to be jumping about. It's someone else's movie being made with Disney's money. That's all.

But isn't it odd that since Disney apparently isn't making it, that the idea of the movie appeals to me more?

ooh.. another Mulan adaptation. This has been adapted last year in the mainland which starred Zhao Wei. It just feels weird that you are going to see two movie incarnations of the same story in just a small amount of time

Anyway, I feel glad that Disney is not involved in this.
