Wow, four treasures for wave six! And in mid 2006! So they're obviously changing the pattern of releasing the treasures (I still count the May 2004 treasures as the December 2003 treasures, just delayed).
And if it indeed is being released mid2006, could they be coming in July 2006?
My predictions on the three that are "locked":
Silly Symphonies Volume 2 - Silly Symphonies, Part 2.
Complete Pluto Volume 2 - Pluto, Part 2.
Disneyland USA Volume 2 - more episodes focusing on the theme park.
Hehe, all "sequels".
I wonder what's holding up the fourth, content-wise. If they're trying to find more material to include, it could possibly be Song of the South, even though I said before I don't expect it to be part of the Treasures series. But looking over the listings of movies/cartoons/etc. here at UD, I'm guessing the fourth could possibly be:
As part of the Disneyland's 50th Anniversary Celebration (which lasts until October, if I remember correctly), and with the news that we're getting these Treasures in mid2006, I'm guessing that a possible treasure will be some type of Disney Anniversary collection with footage of various anniversaries for the Walt Disney Company (Mickey's #th Anniversary, Disneyland's #th Anniversary, etc.). It could be culled from full-length programs or merely various excerpts that highlight the anniversaries. If it were being released in July, it'd be perfect to accomodate the 51st Anniversary of Disneyland, while still be considered part of the Disneyland 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Well since Bill has said he'll be doing his bit towards 2 treasures, considering Mr Cotter's Disney TV history connections ( by the way love the book Bill
) perhaps 2 of the titles include TV material of some sort?
Who knows maybe we'll see the 4 anthology series episodes of Zorro?
Or the remaining eps of Elfego or Swamp Fox?
Or Texas John Slaughter!
The list of possibilities is endless!

I'm still sticking with Pluto and Symphonies Vol. 2 for the animation discs, but I'm jumping off the SOTS bandwagon...I can't see as how they'd release only 125,000 or so copies of it once it does get released. It wouldn't really solve the bootleg problem, and might only make it worse for this highly sought after title. As far as the live action goes, I'm going to cast my lots for Zorro and more Disneyland U.S.A. (in honor of the 50th).
OK, I'm sticking with these predictions now! No more prognosticating for me until Bill makes his announcement (any time now, Bill....)

Still sticking with no SotS for the live action and as sad as I am about this, I've been told a bunch of times no True Life Adventures
So... Silly Symphonies 2 and Pluto 2 for me.... along with maybe a Disneyland 2 to keep up with the 50th anniversary stuff and it's hard to think of a second live action.. I guess I'll just round it out w/ what MikeyMouse said- Zorro maybe?
Hearing that someone else already knows the titles just makes waiting worse!!!

Well, it seemed to me that part of the news about "no True Life Adventures" was that we would instead get TLA on DVD outside of the Treasures concept. I can figure that they had difficulties fitting the seven half-hour shorts and/or the six features neatly into the two-disc Treasures sets.
I suspect that someone is trying to do the job right - in that light I certainly don't see it as bad news that we won't get a TLA Treasure. I hope I'm correct.
As for predictions, I agree with most of you that it's time for Silly Symphonies volume two. And then there'll probably be Pluto volume two or perhaps Donald volume three.
As for classic live-action material, I have no idea - I'll most probably buy them all anyway.

Well, it's not impossible. One set could be the shorts, and the features could be 2 further 2 disc sets. In fact, I would say it's ideal for a series of Treasures releases. I wouldn't be surprised if plans for the TRA change again in the coming months or years.Lars Vermundsberget wrote:Well, it seemed to me that part of the news about "no True Life Adventures" was that we would instead get TLA on DVD outside of the Treasures concept. My predictions!
2 Animated:
Silly Symphonies Volume 2
The Complete Pluto Volume 2
2 Live Action:
Zorro & Texas John Slaughter (a la this year's El Fego/Swamp Fox)
The Hardy Boys (a la this year's Spin & Marty)
I guess that's as much a wish list as a prediction!
AND I hope we get to see Song of the South this year, though not yet announced for sure, and I also hope we get to see Dr. Syn and True Life Adventures!

My predictions:
Pluto Volume 2
Silly Symphonies Volume 2
Disneyland Volume 2
The Fourth will either be:
Song of the South-So Dear to my Heart
or Hardy Boys
I'm leaning towards Hardy Boys on this one. I just don't think they'll release SOTS as a Treasure, but if they do, they'll include at least one other film, probably So Dear to my Heart.
What I would like to see are some of the early 1950s British costume dramas such as The Story of Robin Hood, The Sword and the Rose and Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue. I actually think this would make an excellent Treasure.

I don't have a good track record in predicting future Treasures sets, but here's my try.
Going with Bill Cotter's help of saying there will be two animation sets and two live action sets, my guesses are similar to some other members' guesses:
Set 1 - Pluto Vol. 2
Set 2 - Silly Symphonies Vol. 2
Set 3 - Disneyland USA Vol. 2
Set 4 - Hardy Boys: Mystery of The Applegate Treasure
My "reasoning" is as follows:
Pluto Vol. 2 because the cartoon sets have generally been released every other year - Vol. 1 came out in 2004, so 2006 should see Vol. 2
Silly Symphonies Vol. 2 because the first volume came out the very first Wave 1 in 2001 - it is very much overdue.
Disneyland USA Vol. 2 because the first volume came out the very first Wave 1 in 2001 - it is very much overdue. Also with past year celebrarting the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland, it would fit well to have this in Wave 6.
Hardy Boys - I don't have a good "feel" for the fourth set. The Annette serial is just as likely a choice as far as serials. It is also just as likely a general Mickey Mouse Club set (Week 2?) or another Legendary Heroes set (such as Texas John Slaughter and/or Daniel Boone). I picked the Hardy Boys as most likely, but it is even more of a guess than the other 3 sets.
Why not Donald Duck Volume 3? Because the cartoon sets have skipped a year between sets, so Volume 3 should not be released until Wave 7 in 2007.
Why not another Disney Rarities volume? Same as Donald Vol. 3 - the earliest release would probably be Wave 7.
Why not Zorro? As I have been told by several sources, Zorro will not be included on DVD for the time being due to some legal complications with the estate of the writer of the original books.
Why not Song Of The South? Also from several sources, it is likely Song of the South will receive a general release this fall of 2006 since there is much more demand for this film than the limited nature of the Treasures releases.
Why not the True-Life Adventures? From several sources, those nature films and featurettes are "planned" for general DVD release and are not available for Treasures consideration.
I would enjoy Pluto Vol. 2 because I would like to own the rest of the cartoons on DVD.
I would very much love Silly Symphonies Vol. 2 because there are numerous outstanding shorts in that series that I want to own in DVD quality.
I would love Disneyland USA Volume 2 - because I would like the Peoples And Places Special "Disneyland USA" that should have been on the first set, plus there are several excellent Disneyland-themed TV shows hosted by Walt Disney that would make this set very special.
The Hardy Boys serial "Mystery of the Applegate Treasure" is a very well-done serial. I would like to have a DVD copy of the serial. But I would enjoy having the Annette serial on DVD just as much.
How close the various members' predictions for Wave 6 come to the actual sets will be fun to discover as soon as we get "official" notification of the contents. In the meantime, predicting the future contents had made me want to watch the earlier Treasures again ... I think I'll start with "On The Front Lines" ... or maybe "Tomorrowland" ... or maybe "Silly Symphonies" ... or ... or ...

I have "The Complete Pluto - Vol. 1" but I'm looking forward to get Vol. 2 as part of the "Treasures" series if there is a plan. By the way, the "Silly Symphonies" Vol. 2 will be also planned for a DVD release where it features more Three Little Pigs short except the one from 1939 was "The Practical Pig". That should be in the works for the upcoming "Treasures" series.

The Pluto volume was after all designated a "volume 1", so I'd say it's as obvious as can be that there will also be a "volume 2" this year or later.
Why NOT DD volume 3 this year? I suspect that there'll also have to be a DD volume 4. If we'll have to wait until 2007 for volume 3, when will there be a volume 4? In 09? Is there enough theatrical animated material left to keep on for that long?
Admittedly, I have no better basis for "predicting" than you. I only mean to suggest that the patterns some of you seem to see aren't going to last for long anyway.
On the other hand, there is other animated material "in the vaults" than the "theatrical" shorts.

This is more of a wishlist than a prediction, but why not...
Disney in 3D with Melody, Working for Peanuts, and the various theme park 3D films in a Treasure, complete with a couple sets of 3D glasses. C'mon, that would be fun!
Disney Theme Park Films. Would there be enough interest in releasing films from the theme parks, like the existing and defunct EPCOT films, the Circlevision/Circlerama films, etc.
Disney at the Academy Awards could include the films that are being released on iTunes, complete with the Academy Award acceptance speeches.
Schoolhouse Disney. Am I the only one who remembers the talk about a Treasures set with educational films?
Any thoughts?

Disney is supposedly releasing an Academy Award Winning/Nominated Shorts DVD Boxed Set in the summer (although it probably won't be a part of the Treasures line proper), but i don't think the chances of them including Acceptance Speeches are too great.feedmelinguini wrote: Disney at the Academy Awards could include the films that are being released on iTunes, complete with the Academy Award acceptance speeches.

However, I would definately like to see a Schoohouse Disney//Disney in the Classroom treasure, hopefully containing Donald in Mathmagic Land, Goofy's Freewayphobia, Scrooge McDuck and Money, It's tough to Be a Bird, and those Jiminy Cricket shorts.

Nothing's been announced (aside from some coy hints by Bill Cotter), so unless you're been hiding underneath the boardroom desk when they were deciding on the contents for Wave Six, try and rephrase what you said, as it sounds more like fact when it's really just speculation.musicradio77 wrote:By the way, the "Silly Symphonies" Vol. 2 will be also planned for a DVD release where it features more Three Little Pigs short except the one from 1939 was "The Practical Pig". Anyways, it seems like the general consensus is that we're more than likely getting:
Complete Pluto V2
Silly Symphonies V2
Disneyland USA V2
All for the same reasons I've said in this thread, as has jebsdad.
I'm sure we'll all be pretty surprised or pissed off if those turn out to be wrong and we get stuff like:
Complete Eisner Era Volume 1
Legendary Cheapquels Volume 1
California Adventure Volume 1
Song of the South (okay, that wouldn't get us pissed off, just come as a shock)

There are 4 titles in the next Wave. The release date isn't finalized yet but they are further along in the cycle than they were for the last Wave, so they think it will be released earlier. Basically, the sets are produced by an outside company for Disney, so once the masters are done they're at the Mouse's mercy as far as the release date. Right now the content is locked on three of them and selection continues on some of the content on the 4th. The theme is set, and most of the stuff has been picked, but now it's verifying good transfers can be found or finished in time. Besides the two interviews I'm doing they've asked me to do some additional consulting on the project, so it's fun getting involved earlier in the process. I had helped make some suggestions on the pitch to Disney, and some made it, some didn't.
As said, I'll post more when they take off the gag, but the folks working on this stuff really do seem to care about the vintage Disney product. I never get the feeling they're just going through the motions. Sometimes they can't do everything they want due to budgets, etc., but they are Disney fans themselves. They realized there were some goofs on the last set and have asked me to help in that regard, so believe me, they do listen to fan feedback.
Take care
Bill
Suggestion:
Could you please consider or perhaps put in a request for the 1957 Disneyland episode, "Your Host, Donald Duck" to be featured as an extra in one of the upcoming Chronological DD waves?
I'd be happy to mail you a VHS copy to check out if you like.
In my opinion, it's one of the best Disneyland character themed episodes broadcast, and features lots of newly created (ie. not re-used) animation f Donald and even his nephews and Professor Von Drake, along with much camera time with Walt including some brilliant live-action/animated sequences which look nearly seamless!
Anyone who's had the privelege of seeing this program would agree that it would make for the perfect accompaniment to any of the future Chronological Donald Duck DVD's!
The episode sees Donald attempting to manipulate his voice with the help of a tricky phonograph and cable contraption, in order to take over hosting The Disneyland Show for Walt, who's somewhat skeptical.
Donald's new voice is a success (think 1940's theatrical travelogue newsreel narrator), and so he basically leads viewers through the 4 themed worlds of the Disneyland park by taking the audience on an adventure through his cartoons which are similarly themed around the same events. Inbetween are some wonderful newly done animated segments that transition and lead into each short.
There's easily over 30+ minutes of new animation including a fantastic sequence in which astronaut Donald boards a rocket ship preparing for launch. He acts as host and narrator, worls traveler, pioneer, adventurer, romantic, great hunter and so on. He also becomes quite comfortable in Mr. Disney's chair and get a little carried away with as host.
Again, this is one of the best Disneyland episodes I've seen and would work perfectly with the contxt of the DD Treasure sets! It would be an easy feature to include as well, as there wouldn;t be any additional production required... an easy transfer, and a significant bonus feature!
Please, please, please consider if you are in any position to do so or even suggest to those who are.
As I said, if you like - I'd be happy to mail you a VHS copy to check out.
This is something I'd love to see on DVD!
