Hey Squirrel, I couldn't find it on Google - what is the address for Disney's 2003 Award Consideration site? Thanks.

I believe it's gonna be FINDING NEMO: one of the top grossing films of the year, such a great film and no other animated feature has caused such impact for years.

Oh... HEY! THIS IS MY POSTING # 100!!! :D

i agree.... there's no argument even!! never mind that it was a record breaker.... besides Nemo.. all the other animated flicks were flops this year... so i can't really see how anything could compete with it....

btw.... there's a special thread for posting stuff like that... announcements and so on... it's called "News Flash"... it's in the Off-Topic forum....

Major Breaking New!!!

Post by Prince Eric »

I've just heard a report from thefilmexperience.net that DreamWorks will not be submitting Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas for Oscar consideration. This is just a rumor, but he says it's because they want to avoid the embarrassment of not being nominated with so few contenders this year. This is strange, because with some smart campaigning (I'm talking about big money and gift baskets galore!), they could probably outmaneuvre the two foreign films to nab the third slot.

Prince Eric is having trouble posting, but he says this:
It's official! The 11 eligible animated films are:

Brother Bear
Finding Nemo
Tokyo Godfathers
Millenium Actress
The Jungle Book 2
Piglet's Big Movie
Looney Tunes: Back in Action
Jester Till
Pokemon Heroes
Rugrats Go Wild
The Triplets of Belleville

The rumors are true! Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas was not subitted for Oscar consideration, therefore ruled ineligible. There's a news article as to why Dreamworks chose not to at animationmagazine.net. Can anyone who has a subscription post it here? I'm dying to read it!

There is an article on this at Yahoo News:

'Finding Nemo,' Others Eligible for Oscar
Thu Nov 20,11:34 AM ET

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - The blockbuster "Finding Nemo" and 10 other films are eligible to compete for an Oscar in the animated feature film category.

The board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (news - web sites) voted to activate the category for the 76th Academy Awards (news - web sites).

The other eligible films announced Wednesday are: "Brother Bear," "Jester Till (Till Eulenspiegel)," "The Jungle Book 2," "Looney Tunes: Back in Action," "Millennium Actress," "Piglet's Big Movie," "Pokemon Heroes," "Rugrats Go Wild!" "Tokyo Godfathers," and "The Triplets of Belleville."

Because there are fewer than 16 eligible entries, a maximum of three films can be nominated under the rules.

Films submitted in the animated feature category also may qualify for Oscars (news - web sites) in other areas, including best picture, if they meet the rules for those categories.

The eligibility of "Jester Till (Till Eulenspiegel)," "Tokyo Godfathers," and "The Triplets of Belleville" is subject to their opening in Los Angeles prior to Dec. 31.

Nominations will be announced Jan. 27. The Oscars will be presented Feb. 29.

Last year's winner was "Spirited Away." In 2001, the Oscar went to "Shrek."
So, just three nominees - I'd say that Nemo is still a lock for the nomination (and award). Brother Bear seems to have a strong possibility to garner a nomination - which would leave the last spot to either "Triplets of Belleville" or "Millenium Actress."
