I watched the video clip from Times Square (home of the New Year's Eve ball drop) that there is a preview of the Expedition Everest which is coming to Disney World in April. I don't see any of these articles taken from the Daily News or the New York Post. It's worth a try. It has some dancing and even some daytime fireworks. I know that fireworks are way too early in the daytime. Maybe at night.

Wow. What an awesome ride!. I rode it twice on Saturday. Using the FastPass put me in the ride in about 5 minutes vs. the 70 minute stand by line. No one getting off the ride was disappointed.

FYI if you want to ride in the front row there is a special cue line set up to the right just as you are being assigned a car number. I should have done it myself as there couldn't have been more than 10 people in that cue line. If you get the chance to ride it don't read any of the spoilers and get in the front row your first time. You will have one of the greatest thrill ride experiences, I guarantee it.

Ditto!

Though I think he's trying to say that he saw a preview for Expedition Everest while in Times Square (home of a ball of some kind)...but at the same time...doing an unsolicited plug for Daily News and New York Post...and mentioning that EE has dancing? And fireworks? And a general statement that fireworks should be at night...but that's a maybe on the night...cause it might be too dark at night to see them.... :P :P :P :P

At least we can count on musicradio77 for writing posts that will definitely get read 2 or 3 times in order to be understood! Maybe I should write like that just to get more attention!

I just went to Animal Kingdom and returned to massachusetts today. I rode Expedition Everest

Its definately more scary than big thunder mountain. Theres a spot where you go backwards and that is exciting, and theres also this one "drop" too. You also see the Yeti. Good ride!

April 7 is likely the "Grand" opening. The parks usually have soft openings a couple months before a new (or refurbed) attraction *officially* opens.

So i went on this attraction the other day & yesterday!

If u can go on SPlash- u can go on this. Actually, I'd go on this before I go on Splash...(the whole no restraint/lapbar on Splash kinda scares me-but EE has a lapbar very much like Space Mountain...bucket seats like Space Mtn too- & u sit two in a row)

The backwards part is def the scariest...but its more fun then anything- but def got my heart racing....

Extra Magic hours had the attraction open as well- so we went on it 3x in a row...practically walk on.

One of my new fav attractions now!!! :)

Now, i missed my flight home & in the airport waiting on standby... dont ask- haha- def got the times mixed up.
Lets see how long it takes me to get from O-town to VT.

I'm going to be at Animal Kingdom on Sunday... I'm really looking forward to this ride. I'm not exactly sure how "soft openings" work. Is it open pretty much every day the whole time the parks are open, or is it something you kind of have to luck into?

I'm traveling more than half way across the country for this Disney World trip, so hopefully I'll get to see Expition Everest. I don't know when I'll be getting back to Orland after next week. Any info on the soft opening schedule or how that works would be appreciated.

We went on the 3rd & it was closed there was a sign saying it wouldnt be running today & we asked one of the managers that Shane knew from Tomorrowland attractions who had transfered there what was going on & she said they were prepping for a press event the next day so it was closed. It was going to be closed to the public the 4th too-so we didnt go then.
We went later off in the week & it was open to the public w/ a 65 minute wait... some pinhead saw us waiting in the line & gave us 2 fastpasses for the ride to go on then & he wanted a pin in return. Yeah, save us 65 minutes of wait for a $3 cast pin- I'll trade ya.

We went to X magic hours on wed PM n went on it a few times in a row w/ like no wait.

soft opening is when its open- but not the GRAND opening. It may or may not be running daily. Nothing is gauranteed during soft opening...but it was running most of the week we were down- just those 2 days it wasnt.

go EARLY for a fast pass.

Thanks, Fidget. I was hoping someone would reply today... we fly out early in the morning. I guess if Expedition Everest is closed on Sunday, I'll just try back another day next week. I'm so excited to go! Thanks for the information... very helpful.

Well, we got to do Expedition Everest... it was great! My nephew loved it - he rode it five times. The fast pass there was working great... unlike some rides where even a fast pass puts you in a fifteen minute line. We had fun - glad the soft opening was already in effect.

Wow, this is really exciting! I adore Animal Kingdom and enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings of the Asia section the most, but since I'm not too fond of water rides, the Kali River Rapids doesn't hold much appeal for me. Plus, I'd love to see some Tibetan and Nepalese-inspired buildings.

Looks like I'll be heading for Florida in the near future!

Disney, Discovery link up for ride
Discovery Networks has teamed up with The Walt Disney Co. in a series of three shows that will, in effect, help promote Disney's new thrill ride, Expedition Everest, at Animal Kingdom near Orlando.

Four of Discovery's networks next week will air three Everest-themed shows during what the network is promoting as "Everest: The Experience."

The airing is timed to coincide with Friday's official debut of the $100 million Expedition Everest, although the Mount Everest-themed roller-coaster attraction has been operating on a limited basis since February.

Representatives for Disney and Discovery described the alliance as a mutually beneficial cross-marketing effort. Disney gets exposure for its new ride, and Discovery gets access to Disney's planning and technology the network believes will draw a large audience.

The representatives said Disney did not finance the programs, and Discovery retained full editorial control over content.

"This is not an infomercial," said Clark Bunting, president of national product for Discovery. "These are straight-up documentaries that Discovery would do anyway."

However, media critics question the objectivity of such programs.
[...]
The three shows are scheduled to air a total of eight times from Sunday through April 15 on Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, The Science Channel and Travel Channel.

The first program follows Joe Rohde, creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, on a trip through Nepal, where Mount Everest, the world's tallest mountain, is located, as research for creating the Expedition Everest ride.

The second program is a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the 199-foot-tall ride.

The third program is about a mission through Nepal in search of new animal species.
[...]
Tied most directly to the ride is the program titled "Building a Thrill Ride: Expedition Everest," which Discovery says will be "an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the technology, engineering and creativity harnessed to build one of the most elaborate thrill attractions ever with roller-coaster technology."

Ad or not, I hope they release this on DVD!

Official opening press release:

Expedition Everest Opens at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Bringing the Legend of the Yeti to Life in a Thrilling New Adventure

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Ancient legend holds that high in the Himalayan Mountains lives an enormous creature that fiercely guards the route to Mount Everest.

In Florida, the legend of the ferocious yeti dramatically roared to life today at Walt Disney World Resort with the official opening of Expedition Everest, a runaway train adventure that combines coaster-like thrills with the excitement of a close encounter of the hairy kind.

"Expedition Everest is a shining example of what we do best at Disney - create unique, high-quality and innovative experiences to delight our guests from around the world," said Bob Iger, president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, who presided at the opening. "Though our mountain may be slightly smaller in scale to the one you find in Asia, it is remarkable in its authenticity...
