As I read through this thread, I realized that I must really love most of Disney's music. The only thing I don't like is when I wish there was more music. I'm on board with "The Morning Report," though... that was a waste of time, in my opinion. Not only for the animators, but also for me, because I watched it once.

Also, Wonderlicious - it's "Blue Shadows on the Trail."

I'd say my least favorite Disney song would have to be "A Star is Born" from Hercules. I don't know what it is, it just lacks some kind of magic that just about every other Disney song has.

"Fidelity Fiduciary Bank"-Mary Poppins
"Wait Till He Sees You"-Pocahontas II

"Up Down Touch the Ground"-Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
"Streets of Gold"-Oliver & Company
"True to Your Heart"-Mulan

They took us to a magical journey under the sea, they show us how a beautiful girl can look into a heart of a beast, they even made us fly on a magic carpet...

worst songs

Post by Owlzindabarn »

"Rumbly in my Tumbly" ==Winnie the Pooh (I think that's the right title. This song is just too precious for words....)

"Poor Unfortunate Souls" -- Little Mermaid (sounds like they were channeling Les Miserables, and badly.)

"The Virginia Company" -- Pocahontas (I recall being in the theater when this came on; all the kids were like, what the hell is this...)

"What Makes the Red Man Red" == Peter Pan (the most racist song in Disney history. I cringe whenever I hear it).

"Who Will Rescue Me?" -- The Rescuers (kind of a dour tempo for a song that opens a major Disney movie).

"Just A Toy" -- Babes in Toyland (slow tempo songs towards the last 1/4th of a movie are deadly...kids start nodding off. Plus, it's a dull song.)

"Morning Report" --Lion King S.E. (pointless add-on)

"Sing Sweet Nightengale" --- Cinderella (not Cinderella's half, the ugly step-sisters' half.)

"Stay Awake" --- Mary Poppins (pretty darn stupid, it puts little kids to sleep in the theater halfway through the movie. When they wake up, she sings "Feed the Birds" and they fall asleep again. That's why most kids of the 60s don't recall ever actually seeing the 2nd half of this movie in the theater. No joke!).

and the worst song I've ever heard in a Disney movie....drum roll.....

"That's What Friends Are For" from the Jungle book. (I mean, what the hell do we really have here? Four vultures impersonating the Beatles, singing Barbershop a capella? Not only does it date the picture, but this one song (actually the whole scene) just KILLS the Jungle Book. Dead. Brings it dowwwwn. Way down. Thud. So...whatchoo wanna do?

PLUS++++

==Any song where I can hear Randy Newman or Phil Collins squawking away (WHY are they famous???)

==Pretty much every song ever written for a cheapquel.

I have to really agree with you there. Usually, I'm right on board with people saying Song of the South should not be banished because it's not politically correct. But after seeing the things they get away with still exhibiting just because there are no real groups attacking the negative and unflattering portrayals of Native Americans in film, in Peter Pan and Melody Time, I have got to say that there is something to these allogations that Disney didn't always have their heads screwed on right.
AwallaceUNC wrote:The very 70s ballad that plays in The Rescuers (I think at the beginning)
That would be "The Journey (Rescue Me)". The songs from that movie are incredibly touching, I was moved to tears by that song when I watched The Rescuers for the first time (the second time, but the first was when I was like 12 or 13) after getting the VHS this year. All the songs in The Rescuers are beautiful, and the film itself is startlingly and sickeningly underrated.
Disney's Divinity wrote:I wish people would stop replying to my choices saying: "But I loved that song!!!" Maybe you do, but, guess what, it's MY list, not yours. I, personally, hate the Pink Elephants with a passion. And everyone else can love it all they want, but don't act like it's such a crime that I don't like the same songs you do. 'kay? 'kay.
I may have started that, but I want to say that since I also started the topic, I intended this to be a real judgement of what Disney songs are actually the worst as well as which are your least favorite. It would help, if you haven't already, to tell us why you disliked it. Because it was easily one of Disney's greatest music+animation achievements within their entire career.

I just watched Mary Poppins and "Stay Awake" and "Feed the Birds" were both awful songs in my view. They were both slow songs and didn't feel needed at all.

It's also kinda sad to hear that "Feed The Brids" was Walt's favorite song! I guess it's just personal taste.

I'm saying that but I loved "Fidelity Fiduciary Bank"!

 Feed the Birds is the best song in the movie. Im in shock! lol yeah, personal taste, but I sure do agree with Walt though, one of my fav Disney songs. The movie did have a few forgettable songs... perhaps too many songs.

I can understand people not liking "Le Poissons" in TLM, but "Unfortunate Souls" was catchy, moved the story along, and fit in the movie perfectly. That's one song I have to disagree with you on.

My most hated Disney song?

Answer: Anything by Raven, with "Superstition" being the worst - BLEECH! Stevie Wonder's version is better!

But my best Disney song will always be anything from Beauty and the Beast. Now THAT'S a real Disney movie. :D

"Red Man" is an incredibly racist song. I don't suppose many Native Americans find it funny; it's pretty offensive. Imagine the same tune being placed in "Pocahontas" for instance.

Actually, the fact that Disney also made "Pocahontas," a film of great emotional depth and integrity, almost exonerates them from "Peter Pan's" dated and insensitive depiction of Native Americans.

The only song I know that I definitely won't listen to is the addition of the "Morning Report" in The Lion King when they came out with the anniversary edition. All that hype for a song that sounds like a black soul singer took Simba's role. Heard it once, and never plan to again.

Since I've seen the last couple of posts here I might as well jump on the bandwagon. "Red Man" from Peter Pan is stereotypical and offensive no two ways about it. In today's society we recognize that fault. Would we have cared so much in the 1950s when it was made? Probably not. That's why that scene exists. You can't change the past but certainly learn from it. (God I just stole the fire from Rafiki. )

It may have been intended that way. But it is offensive. Do you have any idea what black people think of minstrel shows? Oh they're just fun shows with great songs... but they're RACIST. And nothing will change that. This film pokes Indians every chance it got, every moment they were onscreen. Sure you can consider it flattering that all the kids think they're great and want to be Indians, but "spoofum" and "heap big" are criticisms of how they don't speak like regular people, the fact that they were even colored red is strictly racist. Then, the historical inaccuracy - there are no Native American princesses, men don't do that hand-slapping over their mouth (sounds like "wa-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba") wardance, and they continue to treat them as though regular people founded or discovered the land. I'm not just taking issue with this film, but Melody Time as well, in both the Pecos Bill and Johnny Appleseed segments.
