But still, the new edition is going to be 100% better! Save your money!Lucylover1986 wrote:Merman said why:BATBFan1 wrote:Why not just wait for the Platinum Edition release?
A few moments ago I purchased a "used" R1 Limited Issue DVD of The Little Mermaid being the super-fan perfectionist that I am, so that I can own an un-fooled with version, before the Platinum Edition is released.

Guys are the Studio Ghibli packages legit? There are several of them.
Like this one:

I only ask because I know the packaged Disney ones are NOT legit at all. Thanks!

I believe it's legit, but its not going to have the extras or the english dubs that you get from buying the Disney Distributed versions. This was made but the Japanese distributor of the Ghiblie movies, I believe Disney, as part of its contract with Ghibli cannot make those versions. I read it on a website, i think. i dont remember where.

Suspected Bootleg: The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea
I already posted this on the Fantasia bootleg thread, but I have the feeling that that thread is about done.
I recently purchased a used copy of The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea off of eBay. It hasn't arrived yet, but it should be here by tomorrow or Monday. The item is listed as used and in mint condition with the insert. I sent the seller an e-mail and asked if it was authentic, they responded with a yes and that it was from his or her child's collection and they are trying to make space for newer movies. I know everything sounds normal so far, but today I noticed something suspicious. The seller is now selling another used copy of the same movie! I mean, sure, they could have two of them, but I really don't see why.
Does anyone think I should be worried about this? I know I probably should have waited until the movie arrives before I posted this, but I'm nervous.
Thank you.

Unfortunately Ebay is rife with bootleg copies of Disney movies. I've been stung several times this last year. I'd been to Disneyland Paris in March, and when I came back I decided to plug some of the gaps in my collection (I'd sold off some of the old limited issue titles like Little Mermaid, Jungle Book in anticipation of the special editions), and had sold some of the sequels like Little Mermaid II.
Unfortunately, when most of the discs arrived they were copies, and many of them were obvious copies, with poorly printed, digitised inlays.
I did get some very good copies, which even had stickers sealing the top of the case with supposed Disney print on them, but the print was smudged on the stickers, and the inlays were not quite up to scratch.
The only consolation I can give you is that many of these films were single layer and they will look as good on a DVD-R as the original if they are copied on a computer.
The bad news is that some DVD-R's have a short life, and depending on what the pirates have used, you may find they don't work after a year or two.

If you paid for it by Pay Pal and the seller hasn't sent it by trackable mail, then just file a buyer complaint if it turns out to be a copy. But file the complaint stating that you never received the item.
I initially filed complaints about bootlegs and had to return them to the seller (giving them the opportunity to sell them on again) - I had to do this at expense to myself, as they had to be by registered mail and I was furious at this.
The next batch of bootlegs I ended up with, I just filed a complaint to say the merchandise had never been received. The sellers had just sent them by regular post and couldn't prove they'd been sent. I had to wait a long period, but I got my money back and got to retain the discs.
Now it might not be strictly honest, but I've not really got any guilt, as it's only bootleggers who got hurt, and they shouldn't have tried to rip me off in the first place.

Thanks guys!
By trackable mail, do you mean shipped with a number so that I can track it online?

Thank you so much for your help!
I'll be sure to post about my experience as soon as the movie arrives.

Okay, so my movie came today. It seems to be authentic, but I'm not done investigating. Does anybody know where I can find a picture of a real copy so that I can compare?
