Great job on the "Peter Pan" DVD Review, Aaron. You did a thorough job on this one. I especially liked the brief history you provided about "Peter Pan."
Great interview of Margaret Kerry, Renata. I loved the questions you asked her. She seems like a fun person to interview.
Excellent work on "The Hardy Boys" and "Popeye" DVD Reviews, Luke. It's been a long time since I have seen either of them, but your reviews make me want to revisit them sometime soon.

Good Popeye review! I gotta get that DVD. Believe it or not, it is one of my all time favorite movies. Lots of people think I'm a big Robin Williams fan, but truly, I'm just a big fan of Popeye and Aladdin's Genie, and maybe a couple other characters he's done. I don't care for Robin Williams' live humor at all, in stand-up or interviews, or whatever, ha.

Did you actually read the review?PixarFan2006 wrote:why are you reviewing a movie that was released by Paramount? Was it because it was co-released by Disney?
Front Page wrote:March 12, 2007 - The subject of our 550th DVD review is Popeye, a 1980 live-action feature film co-produced by Disney and Paramount.
EscapayThe Review wrote:Around the same time, the Mouse did something it hadn't in the nearly thirty years since Walt Disney and his brother Roy established Buena Vista, their own distribution arm. They conspired with another studio. The studio was Paramount Pictures, where Disney CEO-to-be Michael Eisner was then president and chief operating officer. Disney and Paramount agreed to co-produce a live-action feature-film version of Popeye, adapted from E.C. Segar's comic strips and the series of Fleischer Studios cartoons that had rivaled Walt's shorts decades earlier. Disney and Paramount would split the costs and the profits. Paramount was the chief distributor of U.S. exhibitions, while Disney handled the movie's theatrical release in overseas markets.

Great job on the "Castle" review, Luke. You did a great job. I haven't been here in awhile, so thanks to Aaron and Al and everyone else who do reviews for this amazing site! Peace out!

Thanks, all, for the kind feedback. It's very much appreciated. With BVHE's schedule the sluggish way it's been this year, it's been interesting and fun to sort of pick any release I can get my hands on and get it covered. I have a list of Disney DVDs I bought over the years that I've intended to review at some point. From last fall when I started cracking away at it, I'm down to about eight titles. The public library has, thankfully, enabled me to do some additional spur of the moment reviewing. I'm somewhat open to recommendations, too. As I've already got plans to tackle a number of titles that aren't listed in the first post, it may simply be a matter of prioritizing based upon reader interest. Hopefully, there will be enough relevant titles to keep the review stream flowing steadily until Disney begins blitzing us with new releases. That will probably be soon, assuming they intend to keep generating profits. I'm excited about some of the non-new-releases reviews coming up down the line as well as the 10-title CD Roundup that should be going up by the middle of next week.
Thanks for reading and, to those who post here, for commenting!

Been awhile since I left proper feedback, but since it's nine reviews, 2 interviews, and a movie review, I can't particularly comment in-depth on each and every one, so I'll just hand out my trusty elephants.
For Aaron:
- great job on Golden Girls!
- great job on Peter Pan!
For Lukester:
- great job on Bridge to Terabithia!
- great job on The Brave Little Toaster!
- great job on The Prestige!
- great job on Walt Disney Treasures: The Hardy Boys!
- great job on Baby Einstein: My First Signs!
- great job on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: The Great Clubhouse Hunt!
- great job on Popeye!
- great job on Castle in the Sky!
For Renata:
- great job interviewing Kathryn Beaumont!
- great job interviewing Margaret Kerry!
And an extra special
to the UD reviewing community as a whole, I look forward to reading each and every review, interview, article, etc. And I especially look forward to seeing my name on a review and knowing that someone else is reading it too! (Bad Escapay! You're so vain...you probably think this post is about you...)

Thanks for the review of A Goofy Movie. It's nice to see that older discs are not forgotten. I've had this one for quite a few years now and agree with everything you said. It's a fun movie and a good DVD by Gold Collection standards. The aspect ratio issue really bothers me though and almost made me pass this one up. I'm glad now that I didn't. A new version is probably a long way off, and who knows if they'll get it right even then. I never knew that it was presently properly in Region 2. Why does Region 1 get the shaft from Disney so often?
Thanks very much, carter, for the thoughtful feedback! When it comes to animated films, it seems like Region 2 gets the shaft much more than Region 1, making cases like Goofy Movie and Lilo & Stitch SE exceptions. While most people here would be fine with this (reluctant importers included), it annoys me how Region 2 often gets proper presentations of theatrically released and made-for-TV live-action movies and we don't. Of course, I'm not objecting to R2 getting the good versions - good for them - it's just not fair we don't too!
Then again, the Region 2 version has no bonus features whatsoever. I'd have loved to see at least the Disneyland-episode to be included...
Anyway, great review. It made me think about buying the movie (I then decided not to do it, since Fox And The Hound and Cinderella III will be released next month).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I've just realized that I've never visited this thread, lt alone post on it.
What have I been missing?
Anyway, enough with the waterworks...
I just have to say that I always humongously enjoy reading the UD reviews. I think I last read Castle in the Sky, Popeye and Peter Pan, and they are all beautifully written.
Just a point I would like to make ... I believe in the Popeye review, Luke / Aaron (how on earth am I supposed to tell who wrote the review!?
) said that the Popeye set remains a tourist attraction in Malta. Now since I'm from Malta (I imagine most of you know by now, after my patriotic streak; I imagine most of you are sickened by now, lol
), I can ... ahem ... comment on the Popeye set. It indeed still exists, and I remember once visiting it when I was young. Recently, however, my brother and his wife took their kids over there, and were disgusted by the overall state of the set. It's dirty, shabby, stinky and rotting - basically not worth the admission price. Also, the Maltese entertainers that were supposed to keep the kids entertained were absolute crap at their job. Worst of all, they made fun of the tourists (British, mostly) by mocking them in Maltese. Of course, the poor tourists didn't understand a word, and so didn't retaliate. Embarrassingly, these people didn't even speak good English. Yeah ... very encouriging, especially since we're a state tha gets is main income from tourism and have no nautral resources.
Basically, a note to all potential visitors:
Do NOT visit Popeye Village!

If there's a byline ("By such and such"), that says who wrote it, but if there's no byline at all, then it's a bona fide Lukester-Approved Review.

Hey Luke, I was wondering if maybe you, or any other reviewer, would take the time to do a Stitch! The Movie review? Thanks if you can, and thanks if you can't. It wouldn't be your problem if you couldn't. Here's hoping!

Good job on the Spring CD Roundup. It was interesting and welcome to read your opinions. But I gotta say that I really disagree with you on what you said about DisneyMania 5. While clearly not the best, I am willing to say that it was better than DM4 and DM2. The only songs I couldn't stand were T-Squad's and B5's. I also wouldn't say that the Jonas Brothers were the best on the CD.
But I'm ranting a bit.
Anyway, good job and thank you for it. I really think i'll check out that MTR soundtrack!
