I never said I prefer Brave. I just said I'd rather it take it than Ralph. :)

I don't have to "try to look smarter" than you, apparently.

"I never said I prefer Brave. I just said I'd rather it take it than Ralph."

And pray tell, why is this so? Because the forum members at large prefer Ralph and you want to feel superior to them. That's all there is.

And after all your bitching about Pixar and Mark Andrews, now you would rather Brave win? I see you set that agenda aside for a while, will bring it up when it's convenient again, I suppose.

Because I don't want Disney to be congratulated for making bland 3D films. For someone who spends so much time thinking about me, you'd think you'd know that. :D Step off, please.

I hate to say this, Divinity, but....

You are such a hypocrite! Apparently, you weren't all for praising Brave before, but now that it has a stupid little statue commemorating about how "great" it is, you're praising it like it's the "best" thing in the world.

Oh, by the way, did you even WATCH Wreck-It Ralph? I'm betting your answer is no.

Let's not go that far. He has obviously watched Ralph and he still dislikes both films.

Doesn't make him/her any less hypocritical by saying he/she likes Brave because it won a stupid little statue.

And by the way, Divinity, can you give me a LEGIT excuse to not liking WiR instead of some BS reason like 'because it was just stupid'? I'd really like to know what it is about the movie you don't like. Hmm?!

Anyway, I am fine with Brave winning.
Yeah, I'm cool with Brave winning too. And maybe Walt Disney Animation Studios may get its chance next year for Frozen.
Wait, you think Frozen's going to be Oscar good?

Whoa, guys. This thread has gone completely overboard. Get a hold of yourselves. Does anyone really believe that the Oscar's are usually right? Do you agree with previous choices? What did you actually expect? I assume most of us expected WiR had a good chance of NOT winning (not because it was a lesser film, but because of past Academy decisions) and had plenty of time to prepare ourselves. It is perfectly reasonable to be upset that Brave won and others lost, but calling others names, seriously accusing thousands of bribery, and being all-around hostile is too much. This forum is for friendly discussion. Not for petty arguments and personal attacks.

That said, I'm disappointed WiR lost. I think WiR and Paranorman are both better films than Brave, depending on what mood I'm in, but Brave is still a decent movie with a lot of things going for it: animation, music, unique storyline (when was the last time you saw a mother-daughter animated movie?), and heart. It's not entirely unthinkable that it would win an Oscar, and it's not a tragedy. We know which the better movie is, after all.

Right...

Sorry about all the ranting and raving, but I still stand by my thoughts that Wreck-It Ralph should have won. I mean, come on! You all know that was how it should have been! I'm sure the others on here and I aren't the only ones thinking this!

And the more I think about it, the more I think that Brave only won because not only was it Pixar, but just because the animation was pretty and all. Hmph.

If you honestly think it's just a stupid little statue, why are you incessantly complaining about who deserved it? Don't take your anger (completely ridiculous reason for anger, might I add) out on Divinity and making up reasons to pin blame on him.. You're putting words in his mouth - never once did he say he likes Brave because it won the Oscar..

That's not to say I agree with him.. but seriously, Jedi.. You're ridiculous.

Right. My reaction to the guys at the Oscars for giving Brave the Oscar.

^Well, your reaction wasn't quite as tame as that. I wasn't just directing my previous post at you, though. There are certain others on here that have the most ridiculous argument I've seen in a while on UD. *Looks at them purposefully* Calling other people names and pointlessly over-analyzing each others' posts is not okay. :x

Gosh, sometimes I get so fed up coming on here.

This hostility and overreaction is overblown and, frankly, immature. Brave was a mediocre film. It received an award from an organization that almost ALWAYS bestows its honors on mediocrity rather than anything that takes true risks like ParaNorman or, hell, even Frankenweenie. Wreck-It Ralph would have been a better choice for best animated feature than Brave, I feel, but you have to keep one thing in mind: MOST OF THE ACADEMY MEMBERS ARE OLD FARTS.

The core voting block are old fuckers who are about to drop dead. They would naturally NOT be inclined to favor a video-game themed film. This is all about generational appeal. Ralph is going to be a more highly regarded film in circles of people who have nostalgia for the arcade games it is referencing. Most of the old-guard have NO connection to video games. Simple as that.

And as for ParaNorman (which SHOULD have won), frankly, I think this is a case of the conservative academy chickening out in regards to the gay content. You have to remember, these are the same academy members who utterly REFUSED only just in 2005 to even WATCH or acknowledge Brokeback Mountain for that reason. And the academy has NEVER liked Tim Burton, so, I think that's why Frankenweenie didn't win.

I was surprised that Brave won. While I was rooting for ParaNorman, I was expecting Wreck-It Ralph to win. I find Brave the least deserving out of all the nominees.

The Academy's Pixar bias has become painfully obvious. Only the brand name matters to them anymore. I say that not only because Brave was the least critically-praised nominee but also because Wreck-It Ralph closely followed the Pixar formula. The premise as well as the narrative structure resembled that of a Pixar film. The audience also perceived it as a Pixar film. Still, it didn't win because it simply didn't have the Pixar name attached to it.

Are you happy, now?

I don't think so either but after Brave winning I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

He always acts like that with or without a kilt. I can't believe he's an Oscar winner. Just think about how much more arrogant and obnoxious he will be now.
Patrick wrote:Anyone else notice how Mark Andrews essentially ran to the stage, completely inconsiderate of Brenda, leaving her behind? Hmm.
Yeah, I did. He's such a class act.

Seriously, Divinity?

And Widdi, how dare you compare something so amazing (Wreck-It Ralph) to something so mediocre (Chicken Little)? Just... How DARE you?! :(

I didn't compare them at all. I simply stated my opinion that of the 6 movies WDAS has produced since Chicken Little, Wreck-it Ralph is my least favourite.

So much butt hurt over something that affects your life in no way...
