I think it is pretty safe to say that the cover will read "50th Anniversary Edition", it is a pretty big milestone for the film.

Thanks for posting :D.
Well i hoped it's not going to show Phillip and the fairies getting to the castle to wake her but i guess it's a memorable scene since it's now Aurora getting her happily ever after and it's the climax,at least Aurora is pretty here :D so i guess so i guess it's okay :D.
Why it's says 50th Anniversary Edition? :? anyway i hope they"ll change the cover :D.
I think the Blu-Ray will be different but this one is wonderful :D.

Gah, I really hope that isn't the cover art or some stores have different exclusive slipcovers, I really liked:

It reflected the film spot on in my opinion, although some people view this as a love story of sorts I think it's pretty dark, a story about escaping from evil. After all, the love story only got about 15-20 minutes of the film did it not? (Correct me if i'm wrong, I haven't seen the film in years)

Yeah I know it's very important, what I meant to say was they didn't get a lot of screentime together, only about twice or three times in the movie, in the forest, at the end (wedding/dance) and in the beginning I think (birth of Aurora). But you are correct, after all true love rose up and defeated evil :)

Yeah,it's like,it's the most importent thing in the film and the star and hero and didn't get a lot of screen time.

Ya know, that is a really awesome idea, one that I would love to see Disney implement. That would be awesome if they made 3 - 5 different versions of the cover art - that way customers could choose which one they like the best.

Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition

Post by Disney Duster »

*sigh* So it's official. The only good things about are it's drawn beautifully. The fairy dust doesn't even reach the sword, but at least the fire's yellow with no orange (it should be yellow and green). Also note the purple smoke, that's pretty awesome and Disney gets points for that. Once again the main star is off-center, like Ariel. But I can deal with this more because Phillip has has more screentime and action than Aurora and at least a person's pushing her to the side, not a boat.

So Simba3, does this look like a Platinum cover to you? I remember you complaining about it before. It does look more like the other Platinums to me, but I don't want the same old look, I want a new one.

I still want any other (perhaps re-drawn/re-colored) French cover over this one, and still mostly the purple cover with the Maleficent/dragon transformation. Perhaps we really will get a different cover for Blu-ray. If Disney does a cooler cover for Blu-ray, it would make sense because Blu-ray is more for collectors, and it would give people more incentive to buy the Blu-ray, because it has a better cover.

I just mean he's pushing her to the side on the cover, not in the movie! Even though he does more than her in the film. On Enchanted Tales they were only on the sides because it was about two princesses, two stars. Neither one could be in the center, they were equals.

Overall, yes I would say it looks like a Platinum Edition cover art. Granted, it is probably one of my least favorite Platinum covers, but it could be worse. I think my biggest problem with the cover is Aurora and Prince Philip being off centered. I think the bottom and the far right side, with the fairies, looks pretty good though. I don't know - I guess to me it's just ok.

I actually think only the top half is Platinum-ish. The bottom half (like the 2003 SE) doesn't fit with the composition of the other Platinums. Usually the supporting cast and villain strike a pose, usually looking up at the protagonist. Instead, this cover fills the bottom half with an actual scene re-enactment that replicates a character already seen at the top. If Disney had to ignore the proposed French covers and use something more conventional, I'd have preferred they used the fairy Maleficent and forest animal cliparts from those covers and place them at the bottom.

There's still hope that the Blu-Ray disc will have its own unique art. Amazon hasn't put up any art for that one, yet, despite already having one for the DVD. I'll hold onto the faint glimmer of hope that the BD will feature one of the French covers. When it's finally revealed otherwise, then I'll get officially ticked off.

Why is Disney labeling it 50th Anniversary Edition?

Sleeping Beauty will be 49, not 50. Why has Disney also labeled it as Walt Disney, instead of Walt Disney's? Walt Disney's makes more senes than Walt Disney.

Sleeping Beauty's theatrical release was in January of 1959, so the "50th Anniversary Edition" will only be arriving 3 months early.

That would be false advertising then.

Not really! What do you expect them to do, release it on the EXACT date of it's theatrical release? Three months is pretty close, at the time of release, the film will be just about ready to celebrate it's 50th Anniversary.

Not really. It's being released in celebration of it's 50th anniversary which would be all of next year.

Lady and the Tramp: 50th Anniversary was released in 2006, when the anniversary was in 2005. At least Sleeping Beauty isn't being late.
