At first I thought they were relaunching Disney Heros, but nope! Its Peter Pan alright! At the moment, it mostly has action figures, dress-up and snowglobes. The Wendy plush toy now has a tag attatched with Peter Pan Special Edition on it. The logo is blue, with pixie dust going through it.

Anyone else have any more merchandise?
nope,i don't think there are any peter pan merchandise here :( there's disney fairies merchandies but still.

I wanted to let everyone know that DVDTalk.com has posted their review of Peter Pan: 2-Disc Platinum Edition. It earns a "Highly Recommended" rating!

The review can be found, here:

Enjoy! I can't wait to pick this up!

Thanks for posting the review, MadonnasManOne. I'm glad the reviewer liked the restoration, but I still feel like this Platinum Edition sounds more bare bones than usual in terms of bonuses. I guess I have to wait to own it to find out.

So the Christmas show is missing!

Which makes it all the more puzzling that the UK press release states it is there. Probably a typo :(

Thanks for posting the link to the review!!
To me it sounds as if there's actually more fluffy stuff on this PE than on Cinderella but that's just the impression I got from the review. I am glad that the new PE seems to be good. I can't wait!!

It is a shame though, that the Christmas Show is missing, it would have fitted perfectly on there. Well, maybe, if we're lucky they're gonna put it on a future release of the Legacy collection. I hope they do.

*sigh*

What a disappointing DVD review.

And I'm not talking about the lack of the Christmas show. That IS disappointing, but the entire review made me even more disappointed.

1. It's so general/vague and makes little to no references or comparisons to the previous single-disc special edition. If not for the one cap from the "Almost was" featurette, the mention of who hosts it (Musker/Clements), and the entire paragraph about "in walt's words", I'd have guessed the reviewer just read the disc specs off the press release or insert, and wrote a review from there without bothering to actually watch the discs.

2. It completely skips over the "kiddie" fare such as games and music videos. I understand that they're not everyone's cup of tea, but find it rather insulting to the DVD producers if a reviewer, who's supposed to give a full assessment of the product, waves off an entire section with a single sentence that offers no information of what it is beyond the word "games".

3. It makes no mention of runtimes for anything at all. Even though I've known the runtimes thanks to BBFC, some others don't. The fact that it's just another "Oh, there's a great behind the scenes look called 'such-and-such' and is great" says nothing. One beef I always have with DVD reviews is that some reviews don't bother with runtimes. I know it should be quality over quantity, but I'd like to know if something is a great 16-minute featurette or a lousy 50-minute featurette. Just calling it great or lousy is squat.

All in all, I guess the only main thing for me to look forward to on this Platinum is an improved picture. Even the review skates over that and offers the vague "it's never looked better!" comments with only a minor note about the Special Edition transfer. What little is left that's worth an upgrade ("In Walt's Words" and "The Peter Pan that Almost Was") merely amounts to 29 minutes of material (BBFC gave runtimes of 8 minutes and 21 minutes), and I'm not entirely sure if I want to spend $15-$20 for 29 minutes.

I now wait patiently for the UD review, which I know will do the DVD justice. How sad it is that a site like DVDTalk gets the DVD a month ahead of the release and can only offer a vague and so-so review, while a site like UD will likely get the DVD a week before its release, and we'll get the kickass review only a couple days before it streets.

Escapay's comments completely reflect my own. That review was extremely vague (but then, many of DVDTalk's reviews are). If it were not for the screencaps, I would never have known how exactly this restoration compares with the last one (it looks marvelous, by the way; seems to be a Lowry job to me). The absence of the Walt Disney Christmas Show has me steamed and because of that, my excitement for this release has sunk greatly. This seems to be one of the weakest Platinums in terms of bonus material, if not THE weakest. The review didn't even mention a trailer, but then again, it was so glossy that there may be one there, after all. Sigh. Hopefully the other Backstage Disney features will be worthwhile, even if they ARE brief...

Hey, but maybe we'll all have our expectations so low that the sheer fact that it's out again will make it exceed them!

Wow, this is quite depressing. I was really looking forward to this release, but from the review posted, my excitement dropped. However, I will still be getting it, since I don't have any DVD of it. Maybe, I can find a used copy of the Special Edition, I'm craving for that other Audio Commentary.

You'll be wasting your time; the commentary on the PE is the same one from the SE. We all thought it was new because the stupid press release for the UK edition said it was hosted by John Canemaker, but he's merely a participant, not a host. The DVDTalk review's description is just like the SE one. All you're losing with this PE release is a Pirate Treasure Hunt set-top game that's actually included on a bonus disc exclusive to Wal-Mart. Besides that, everything else is on this new one.

I'll get it because of the restoration and the audio commentary (my DVD doesn't have one), but I might just get the one-disc edition this time. Peter Pan has never been a favourite of mine and the PE seems to be lacking in bonus features anyway.

Well, my expecations just went down some more. This DVD isn't really looking up to standard, and standard now is kinda low. Thanks for the info Disneykid, I'm glad I didn't go and purchase the other DVD.

I guess I'll still be buying this one because 1.) I love the book. and 2) The only copy I have of Peter Pan is a worn-down VHS.

I am really excited for Peter Pan because I don't yet have the film and because the Platinum Editions are always so great. Plus I am hoping they will announce (officially) which movie will come to Platinum Edition DVD for Spring 2008. I am also hoping for a trailer for the 2-disc edition of The Aristocats.

Wow! My intention in posting that review was not to depress everyone, but, make them aware that DVDTalk.com has "Highly Recommended" the DVD. I guess my good intention had the complete opposite effect.
