I'm going to the midnight showing tomorrow night in Orlando. I'm excited. I'm not a Twilight fan, but my brother is. I'll be taking him sometime after opening weekend for two reasons: less annoying teens and so that my money doesn't go against Bolt (I'm hoping for a miracle that it will be number 1, even though it seems impossible).

Nice- so happy to see all the positive reviews! Goes to show all those awesome clips were actually "telling the truth" and that the movie is actually THAT entertaining. I'm going to try and see it in 3D... it will be the first time I've seen a movie in that format, and I feel like this will be an awesome one to start with.

No 100% not the red and blue glasses. They are clear so it's kinda like wearing just a normal pair of glasses. If you have ever seen one of the 3D movies at Walt Disney World or Disneyland they are like those glasses only more comfortable to wear due to the long movie running time...Yeah prob the same as your imax glasses.akhenaten wrote:now that its been confirmed this movie will be playing in digital 3d at selected cinemas here....i need some confirmation regarding the glasses..is it red and green or blue red or anything like it? or is it different? i remember watching open season in imax and it wasnt red n green..but the newspaper article shows a photo of the glasses in red n green..

Just got back from Bolt. I thought it was pretty good. it was about the quality I was expecting. Not a classic I'll want to watch over and over, but worth seeing at least once. I liked it more than Meet the Robinsons, which is the only recent Disney movie I can compare it to.
Its not better than Wall e, or any Pixar movie by any stretch. though it does have the best 3d animation Ive seen from Disney thus far. I kept getting reminded of things from their 2d classics. I recognized certain poses and gestures that looked to have come right out of the Lion king.
One thing that bothered me was there seemed to be a lot of pixar rehashing. I wasn't bothered by the buzz lightyear dynamic as much as the smaller moments. the scene where Bolt realised he's not a real hero mirrored the one from toy story almost shot by shot. (hamster/woody on the left, building up the confidence of Bolt/Buzz on the right).
the cat at one point was going for a Jessie type thing trying to convince Bolt not to leave. I don't know of I was just distracted by the similarities or what, but I just didn't buy these moments. A lot of character stuff in this movie felt forced.
There were only a few moments I felt were sincere. The main one being when bolt sees Penny has moved on (or so he thinks at the time).
Basically the movie is really good when its being funny, but the moments that are supposed to pull at your heart strings fall flat imo.
Miley Cyrus...I wish they would have cast someone else. Most of the time she was okay, didn't even sound like her when her pitch was high. But there were moments where her voice gets low and its obvious that it was Miley.
Travolta was great as Bolt.
And now a rant about my theater: I usually love my theater, but this time I got stuck with one of the smaller ones, which aren't ideal for 3d projection. and it was awfully dim tonight. it was digital projection, but it sure didn't look like it. and the glasses of course make it even worse. Normally I wouldn't mind it, but you need to have the projector the brightest it can be for these glasses.

Alright, so i've seen the film.
I really enjoyed the look and feel of this film. The improvement in animation from Chicken Little to Bolt is amazing. For me it's almost like the diference between Steamboat Willie to Snow White. I'm extremely excited to see more of Rapunzel because now I have a lot of faith in Disney's CGI abilities. I think they are using alot of Pixar's equipment or something. It really is just a nice film to look at overall.
I found Bolt and Penny's relationship to be very well developed. Penny turned out to be a more likable character than I thought.
Overall I think I can safely say that this is my favorite Disney film post Lilo & Stitch. I feel that the most appropriate way to label this film would be to call it a animated comedy, although it really is a bit more than that. This film has a bit more heart than I had originally anticipated. I do have to say that it could've gone a bit farther. For instance, there really isn't a lot of story development in Mittens and Rhino's backgrounds aside from a mentioned past conflict now and again. I would've really liked to know the two characters a bit more. I guess I can't expect much though considering the film is about it's title character! Another thing I think that should be made a bit clearer is that I feel anyone at any age could enjoy this film. Although obviously aimed at a young audience, I think that this is a film the whole family can enjoy.
This also marks my second time viewing a Disney film (well any film really) in 3D while in the cinema. To be honest, i'm not all that impressed with the technology. I understand it's more of a novelty above anything else, but i guess i'm just waiting for it to be used as a artistic tool. Much like the multi-plane camera, i'm hoping that Disney will take more advantage and utilize it correctly. I just feel that this film didn't need to be 3D and wasn't really made for it. There are many time i didn't even realize i was watching a 3D film. Also, 3D glasses give me headaches... this is probably because whatever you aren't focusing on the screen is pretty blurry (if anyone knows what i mean). I want to go see the film again without the 3Dness so I can actually get an even better view of the style in the film. I was impressed as it was, can't wait to see it normally.
I would go more deeply into the plot and what I thought about it, but i don't want to spoil anything yet. Maybe in about a week I'll discuss more!

I saw this instead of Twilight (
) yesterday, and I'm very glad I did. I loved this movie, without a doubt the best film Disney Animation has put out since Lilo and Stitch. Lightyears ahead of the subpar Chicken Little and the decent Meet the Robinsons, both in terms of animation and story, with many laughs and a lot of heart, Bolt is tied for the second best animated film of 2008; Wall-E being the best and Kung Fu Panda being just as good as Bolt. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good Disney film.
Cheers,
JM
P.S. I'm highly dissapointed at the early Friday box office estimates. I knew Twilight would be huge, but I didn't expect Bolt to be so low.

"BOLT" is an amazing film, and proves to any doubter out there, that Disney has regained their status as a company to deal with when it comes to family entertainment. They have hit the mark and even raised the bar a little when it comes to their 3-D animation.
One thing I did notice, and if any of you pay attention to the credits when they roll, a lot of familiar names pop up when it comes to credits for certain things. Most of them are the same people who work on the Pixar movies, and since the merger I wouldn't doubt that Pixar has a lot to do with the improvement in the Disney 3-D images.
I was really impressed with the storyline of "Bolt", and the voice-over casting was really good, except for Miley Cyrus. Now, I think she was good, but there were times where I think she could have been replaced with someone better. Overall I am giving this a 4.5/5 because of the way the movie plays out. It is made for the whole family, and there is enough going on that even an ADHD child will be locked in their seat with this movie. It is that good. And I took my three year-old and four-old grandkids to see this, and they were mesmerized by it the whole time.

The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

I loved BOLT. I thought the animation was amazing. I loved watching the fur move on Bolt. I thought the painterly style was okay. To me, it seems you either go fully CGI or fully traditional but don't try to make a film that looks like a mix of the two.
So many characters were hilarious. The gay pigeons in Hollywood were probably my favorite background characters.
The movements of the animals were so real. You can tell they did their research.
I didn't really notice John or Miley in Bolt and Penny. I thought both performances were great.
I didn't expect to laugh so much! Many, many times I had a good chuckle. The animation and comedy was better than Robinsons, but Robinsons made me feel more sentimental.

Don't worry. Bolt will have legs due to good reviews and positive word of mouth. Twilight will crash and burn.Just Myself wrote:P.S. I'm highly dissapointed at the early Friday box office estimates. I knew Twilight would be huge, but I didn't expect Bolt to be so low.
I thought the movie was somewhere in-between Chicken Little (which I really liked) and Meet the Robinsons (which I loved). I need to go see it again NOT in 3D. The 3D glasses really distracted me and hurted by the end of the movie. I'm not a fan of them.

I know Bolt will have legs, but an opening that mediocre for a film this good is sad, especially considering what happened two weeks ago, when an opening so good was given to a family movie that was incredibly mediocre (talkin' 'bout Madagascar 2).kbehm29 wrote:Don't worry. And I highly doubt Twilight will crash and burn. Female audiences go see mediocre films repeatedly and those films always have great legs. Case in point: Titanic, this year's Mamma Mia! and now Twilight. I have a female friend who saw the midnight show and is already planning on seeing it four more times*.

*She's probably only doing it to annoy me for seeing The Dark Knight five times and Indy 4 seven times, but whatever. I know she'll still see it five times.
