That sounds logical.....quite a possibility.....they said that pirates would be jumping in to Jules Verne type things or ideas.....I'd say Pirates go the center of the world or Atlantis is more likely than Capitan Jack Sparrow discovering a time machine and comes to the 1980s.....

I do hope there are no time machines in this series.

But really, can you come up with any maritime legends not explored yet? I think Atlantis is about the only big one left.

James Hook would just be stupid, but you have something there with Long John Silver or El Dorado. I could see either being in a PotC film. Feel kind of silly I didn't think of those.

Okay, from what I read on Box Office Mojo, the movie's earned a little over $90 million domestically and over $256 million internationally, making it probably $346 million world wide.

While I can say it's doing good internationally, would you guys say it's doing fine here in the states?

I would think that since it just made news of breaking an international opening weekend record, that fact alone would make more people go out and see it. I wouldn't consider $90 mil doing bad by any stretch of the imagination. Sequels generally tend to make less by the 4th installment.

I normally will see Disney movies on opening weekend, but I wanted to avoid the rush this time. My husband and I are seeing it tomorrow night, and I can't wait!

LONDON (Reuters Life!) – Captain Kidd has gone down in history, rightly or wrongly, as one of the world's most notorious pirates alongside bloodthirsty contemporaries Blackbeard and the fictitious one-legged Long John Silver.
Now a new London show about his life and the "golden age" of piracy on the high seas in the 17th century suggests there was more to the man and his gruesome demise than meets the eye.
Scottish-born Kidd was hung for piracy and the murder of a crew member at Execution Dock at Wapping on London's River Thames in 1701.
His corpse was coated in pitch and squeezed into an iron cage to be dangled further downriver at Tilbury for years as a warning to future brigands.
But until his dying day Kidd protested his innocence.
He claimed he was a privateer, not a pirate, and that all the ships he had attacked and plundered in the Indian Ocean were legitimate targets, sanctioned by the Crown and his rich and powerful backers in London.
A privateer was a mercenary licensed by the King and the government to hunt merchant ships flying the colors of England's enemies -- then France and Spain.
Tom Wareham, curator of maritime history at the Museum of London in Docklands where the exhibition is being held, says the show explores how the line between privateering and piracy was often blurred.
It ultimately asks whether Kidd was framed to save the reputation of the mighty East India Company and the Crown.

And this news could be used in a plot seeing how The East India Company and the crown in the pirate movies of this series isn't always as nice as you would think they would be.......this is probably a bigger bet than Long John at least for the 5th....

Does anybody want Pirates to turn back in to Curse of The Black Pearl mode? I mean that was almost a horror film in some ways and the series just keeps getting lighter and fluffier. Still love the series, I just wish they got a little darker.

I totally agree with you(though i haven't yet seen part 4). I liked the first part for it's darkness, the 'curse of the black pearl' was more mysterious en surprised us all(at least me)with the part were the movie suddenly went horror. It was a grown up movie with lots of adventure we all longed for as a child. The horror was not over the top, but did leave some goose-bumps(it really felt like you were on the ride in disneyland). Part 2 and 3 were different way around. They were more child-like movies wanted to show us how mature the adventure in it was. And they left the mysteriousness by trying to make things really obvious and over the top.
I'm really thrilled to see On stranger tides. But from what i've heard it's more likely to be put with the sequels then the original.

Went to see this film the other day and it was dreadful. I did like 2 and 3 so I'm not a critic's sheep but it was terrible, worst film I've seen so far this year.

mum and i went last night. the cinema was pretty full for 8.30 at night. we both loved it, first one weve seen on the big screen and had a great time.

one of the news channel movie reviewers gave it a measley 2 stars, but she often does that with movies that are brilliant. she did the same with ts3 and tangled, while movies that are rubbish get 3 or more.

I think this is the first Disney film to have a PG-13 for that as part of the reason.

I for one was far more freaked out by the mermaids then I was the cursed pirates from the first one.

Saw it last night with my boyfriend, wow!

First day BD purchase for me. Then I'll consider getting the first two, and perhaps 4 years later the last one. That's the I'd rank em.

I loved it, couldn't point to a single weak part. Best depiction of mermaids ever, loved the humor, great pacing, visually stunning, fiesty chemistry between Jack & Angelica, loved Philippe & Syrena, shame Bloom&Knightly were absent, but you didn't feel it at all throughout the film.

Just got back from seeing it in 2D with my husband and wanted to write while it's still fresh in my mind.

Definitely want to see it again while it's still in theaters. I rank it as good as #2 and #3 - if you were OK with those you will most likely enjoy this one. New stuff mixed with more of the same - I was laughing throughout the movie. I will not miss buying this as soon as it's released on BD. In fact, I can't wait so I can watch it a few times at my convenience.

Stay for the end credits.

Quasi-spoilers below:

1. I liked the way that less CG effects were used. It was a lot of "stunts" and "sword-fighting" - the way a pirate movie should be.
2. The score - at first it was ominous, then it was the familiar, but mixed in with a little Spanish twist if you listen hard enough. Loved it.
3. Barbossa in the wig? OMG - I laughed so hard.
4. For me, the beginning was weird and I really got interested at the point where the mermaids were introduced. Then it was like watching an old friend come to life. The beginning was good - just different for the series. Lots of stunts and stuff that I'd like to see again.

Overall, I really enjoyed it and hope they do green-light the next two installments.

^^ I agree, that looks great! I'm still disappointed about missing "The World of Color" in the first place. Last year, me and my wife were on our Honey Moon at Disneyland, and sadly, missed the opening of this by I think it was a week. Drat.
