I have a question about movies going back in the vault. I know that some of them (The Aristocats for example) go OOP quietly to be rereleased a few months later, but there seems to be a tradition of Platinum and some other movies going back in the vault on a special date (here January 31st, 2007). Are there other "cut-off dates" like that that I sould be warned about?
I ask because since I'm a "poor" college student, I try not to buy more than one DVD a month and I am planning my buying schedule ahead (with 23 months to go, no less!
) so I wondered whether I sould priorize on some movies before some dates in particular.
Thank you to anybody who has information on this (like what has happened in the past) and I am very sorry if that question comes too often or can be found on the site

Well, the main thing is that you need to visit this website regularly. Normally the big titles only go into the vault on Jan. 31, 2007. The titles that disappear during the year are minor titles and so far have always come out a few months later as a special edition after going OOP. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh might prove to be an exception to this rule. You will always keep up with what is going on if you visit the home page here daily. If you can't do that then you should try to regularly check the upcoming release calendar Luke has posted. That list is always very complete.myr_heille wrote:I have a question about movies going back in the vault. I guess the better answer to your question would be: no, you don't need to worry about any other dates. The only discs you really should worry about at this point is the Platinums.
A few other titles that were out of print for a couple years (I don't know if this will happen again):
1) Tarzan
2) Mulan
3) Pocahontas
4) Alice in Wonderland
We don't have any idea when these might go OOP. There is no cause to panic anytime soon but personally, considering your budget, I would prioritize these after the Platinums.

What films are going into the vault and when?
I forgot to ask this year and need to know so I can go pick some up if I need them.
Going into the vault on January 31st are: Lady and the Tramp, Lady and the Tramp II, Chronicles of Narnia (Four Disc Extended Edition), and Bambi.

I bought an extra copy of Cindy, and I am curiously awaiting the time it will go into the Disney Vault so I can sell it.

Well, if you are getting Bambi, make sure that if you want it to come with a slipcover, that it actually has velcro. Mine came with some sticky glob of something that will automatically come off, and leave the "open like a book" slip cover to be open when you take it off your DVD shelf. So, get the velcro!PixarFan2006 wrote:I also need to get Bambi before it goes into the vault.

Yeah, I got mine in September 2005, and mine came with that sticky glob of glue-ish stuff, and it came off within a few days. I was at Best Buy today and I saw Bambi with the velcro and I was like "GRRRR". I was surprised that none of the copies of Cinderella that they had didn't come with slipcovers though, and all of their copies of Aladdin still had slipcovers!TheSequelofDisney wrote: Well, if you are getting Bambi, make sure that if you want it to come with a slipcover, that it actually has velcro. You could do the old "buy the movie, swipe the slipcover then return the DVD itself" thing. I did that myself with a copy of "Lady and the Tramp" at Borders (no way I was going to pay $29.99 for the movie just to get the slipcover). Now if I can just find a "Cinderella" anywhere with a slipcover...DisneyFreak5282 wrote:Yeah, I got mine in September 2005, and mine came with that sticky glob of glue-ish stuff, and it came off within a few days. I was thinking about that, but wouldn't they be suspicious when they see you buy it, walk out to your car, and return a minute later with the DVD without a slipcover and price tag, when you purchased it only a few minutes before?SpringHeelJack wrote: You could do the old "buy the movie, swipe the slipcover then return the DVD itself" thing. Trust me, they don't care. It may feel awkward just leaving and coming right back, but no one really cares enough to complain. Besides, they couldn't really do anything. The DVD itself is still wrapped and unopened, so that's all they care about. If you felt weird, you could go to another cashier, which is what I did.DisneyFreak5282 wrote:I was thinking about that, but wouldn't they be suspicious when they see you buy it, walk out to your car, and return a minute later with the DVD without a slipcover and price tag, when you purchased it only a few minutes before?
