Thankless though it may be, I keep doing it. Here's a more in-depth than necessary but hopefully more amusing than necessary DVD critique of:

Song of the South: 60th Anniversary Edition

Yes, I'm resorting to <i>that</i>. I've just spent many hours on this review, you see.

I am new and just discovering where things are, but your reviews are such a treasure to read (pardon the pun as I've been establishing myself as the royal complainer of dented Treasures tins). So if I have your attention here for a moment, I'd just like to say I think very highly of your excellent reviews. I appreciate the care you put into them and your honesty of opinions on their content. They are what influenced me to buy what I've bought thus far. My Disney buying history only stretches back to about a month ago and I've got alot of catching up to do as finances permit, but THANK you for those priceless reviews and I've clicked through several times from them to get to Amazon to see if they have the item and order, so thanks for providing those links. Please continue to provide your reviews as I am sure I am not the only person here depending upon them.

Two new reviews are up just in time for Halloween:

Hocus Pocus (1993):
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/hocuspocus.html

Mickey's House of Villains (2002):
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/houseofvillains.html

Meanwhile, reviews of this week's two other new DVDs (<i>The 3 Wise Men</i> and <i>Disney Princess: A Christmas of Enchantment</i>) are on the way and should be done before Tuesday.

I read this post last night and it pretty much made my day. Thank you very much for the kind words. Oftentimes, it feels like many people don't read the reviews or recognize just how much work goes into them. Perhaps they avoid them, thinking they'll just be like something they can find elsewhere. But really, I try (and other regular reviewers like Aaron and Renata do too) to really give you everything you need to know about the various DVDs each week inevitably brings. It's extremely rewarding to hear when they're appreciated. Thanks again and keep reading!

Your welcome, but I would bet alot of people are reading the reviews but they may not come post about it because this thread is now 19 pages long! Seriously, I have also spent alot of time at Digital Photography Review and they also take alot of care in writing their reviews and that is why I always go back there if I need to know anything about cameras. Of course the reviews are dry and only interesting if you want to buy the camera! But they bother to do it. You could just write a 5 minute review and that is that, you know? You go the extra mile and there's people like me who are learning from your reviews. Had it not been for your review section, I never would have stayed at this website. As I was moving around the internet trying to find answers to my questions about Disney, I must have visited 7 or 8 "Disney-dedicated" websites and I just kept going because I was not finding what I needed. I did not understand, for example, about the various releases, the Platinum, the Gold Collection, etc., until I found the area on your website that explained it. No one is providing that type of info. This site has provided me with all the help I needed and the forum members are also an invaluable resource. Together it really is "ultimate disney." So thank you for providing this website and for all your hard work.

Now where was I.... I appreciate the depth you go into to cover different aspects and even when you think it is not the best effort that Disney put out, you show care in writing the not-so-favorable review. I wrote for a punk rock fanzine for many years and I am not a very good writer. When fellow "journalists" on that zine didn't like something, they often just resorted to a couple of expletives to explain. Writing for a punk zine didn't require one to be a good writer. I tried to make up for my lack of skills in that area by providing good content. I can at least form sentences and round out a decent paragraph, but to be a good writer is a gift. It is just something you can either do well naturally, or you can't. If you do not write for a living, you sure could!

Maybe because in-and-out-in-one-week noobs come in asking "Hey, what's on the platinum line?" or "Is such and such on DVD yet?" or a whole bunch of questions that could easily be answered if they just search the site.

Wonderful reviews on Hocus Pocus and House of Villains! It's a shame that the former title has got a crappy DVD release, but oh well. By the way, who's Lester Medina on the forum?

Evil Genie Jafar of course! Who else would review a movie where Jafar gets most of the screen-time!?! 8)

Renata's review of <b>Disney Princess: A Christmas of Enchantment</b> makes for quite the enjoyable read:

^I'm sure it's taking awhile to watch all the episodes (oh, the envy!) - there's about 10hrs worth per set. :)

I've just read the very good Three Wise Men review, and I must say that the Google ads that I got whilst reading it were rather unusual...

Thanks for reading the reviews to the handful of you who do and post about it!

Here's <b>DuckTales: Volume 1</b>:
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ducktales-volume1.html

Hope to have <b>Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers</b> done soon, but this took a lot out of me, I have a good deal of work left on C 'n D and I need to do some of that sleeping thing.

I often feel the same with the reviews I post as well. I'm now up to my 169th review (A-Team - Season 2) and starting to wonder "Is anybody out there?". Then I get an email that tells me that I have really bad taste in movies and I am stupid, and it makes it all worthwhile :)

As for yours Luke, I've just read the C 'n' D and it ties me over nicely until mine arrive. The review isn't just a review - it's a full on history of Disney TV! It is a nice gap filler to Disney War, which I am just finishing up as we type. (Sidenote: Interested in having some book reviews on the site?)

TV shows are really difficult to review, because they take so much damn time. The lack of extras is a mixed blessing in this regard, at least from a review point of view. I was in two minds about buying this, and although they have already shipped and I can't cancel, I'm now thoroughly convinced I did the right thing.

Mind you, you almost convinced me to buy something with Duff and Raven last week, so maybe the reviews should stop. :P

Thanks, Loomis! Everything you said is very true and I'm glad that you can find time to read the reviews along with all you write. I feel like sometimes reviews are more interesting to those who write them. When I began doing them, I definitely started paying more attention to other's takes, especially on things I'm reviewing - but always afterwards, so as not to let them sway me. A 10-hour box set requires a lot of time to be sure, and here I was juggling two of those and an 8-hour set too.

Anyway, thanks for reading, responding, and making me think some people do give a damn. And, FYI, when I can find the time, I always give DVDBits a check to see the R-man's latest. Loved the pic of you and Cindy! :)

Thanks for the review on Duck Tales! I used to enjoy a number of the late 80s and early 90s Disney TV material, and reading that brought back memories of me being around three or four years old when such Disney shows were my favourite on TV (and simultaneously and unsurprisingly all my favourite movies were Disneys. ;) )

I haven't made any order yet on that or Rescue Rangers, though I will probably pick them up when I go to your side of the Atlantic next February. Who knows what I'll do...

Well you've sold DuckTales to me Luke! Didn't take much did it! I'm with Loomis, your reviews are helping to empty my pockets, and I was on the verge of buying the Duff/Raven Xmas Combo craptacular disc as well!
