An animator claims in court that Disney copied "original elements" of her snowman character in the movie and trailers for the $1 billion smash hit "Frozen." Kelly Wilson sued the Walt Disney Company and affiliates for copyright infringement, in Federal Court. Most of Wilson's 23-page complaint involves a teaser trailer for "Frozen" and its similarities to Wilson's short, 2D animated movie, "The Snowman."

"In June 2013, defendants released the 'teaser trailer' for 'Frozen' (the '"Frozen"' teaser trailer') The 'Frozen' teaser trailer is substantially similar to 'The Snowman,' and it is almost identical to the original element of 'The Snowman,' including but not limited to: the plot, themes, dialogue, mood, setting, pace, characters and sequence of events," the complaint states

Kelly's film is about an "average Joe" snowman who loses his carrot nose and tries to make sure it does not end up in the hands of some hungry rabbits. She claims that Disney's trailer uses the same plot but instead of rabbits, the snowman character, Olaf, tries to keep a moose from making the nose into a snack.

Kelly says Disney had plenty of opportunities to see her film before it released its own version. In fact, she claims, Disney animators saw her film and talked to her at a California film festival. Plaintiff won the award for 'Youth Work Honorable Mention' for 'The Snowman' at the 54th San Francisco International Film Festival in 2011, in a category where 'The Snowman' competed with a short film created by an employee of Pixar Animation Studios ('Pixar') - a subsidiary of Disney - and it was made known by Film Festival producers that Pixar employees were present for the screenings. In fact, at screenings of the short films in 2011, both plaintiff and the Pixar employees were invited on state together to discuss their respective films," according to the lawsuit.

Here's the short film in question that Disney allegedly ripped-off for the Frozen teaser.

Grounds for *bringing* a lawsuit, of for *success*? Speaking as someone sued by a former employer for leaving my job (after the boss kinda went batty and fired all the other employees I liked working with), I can attest it doesn't take much to put a suit in motion.

I'd argue that "nearly identical" offers a lot of room for interpretation. There are considerable similarities--enough that the company might best be served by offering a settlement.

Plus she's plus-sized and doesn't give a damn about her weight, she could change her appearance anytime, and yet she prefers to stay within that shape. She's confident within her own body.

Funny you forgot Gothel and King Candy, while they're not the most popular villains they get the "Loki treatment" a lot. Like how people defend Gothel, saying how she's such a loving mother, that Rapunzel is a selfish brat for running away from her, and how Tangled the movie carries an "Anti-Adoption" message (lul what).

I have honestly only seen King Candy get hate for child-abuse, and alot of people understand that Gothel only wanted Rapunzel for her powers. Have honestly never seen this. Lol Mother Gothel is not a loving mother, people have pointed out that she's always patting Rapunzel's hair, and even hugging her hair and never Rapunzel.

Since when has been stealing somebody else's child from them being adoption ???

Turbo is the same thing, that Vanellope was a spoiled brat that needed to get deleted so Sugar Rush could be a "peaceful kingdom", and blah blah.

Whatever, that Madhatter wannabe only wanted the place so he could rule in his order and be popular and noticed like a spoiled attention-seeking child.

And who can forget the "handsome duds". Gaston, Loki and Hans. About how poor and misunderstood these poor babies are; that Odin and Thor are abusive and cruel to baby Loki, that Belle's a bitch for not opening her legs to Gaston, that Anna's a slut for cheating on Hans with Kristoff...

I have honestly never seen this with Hans. Honestly. Have seen it alot with Loki and Gaston though, sadly.

It's not that I condemn villain-liking, considering so many are quite cool, but this "Draco in Leather Pants" treatment is just something I don't get at all. And considering half the Hans fandom does this, well...

I haven't see this with Hans. Honestly. I hang around with the Hans fandom on Tumblr, that's very small and honestly we all understand that he's a manipulative bastard. We do sort of want him to redeem, some of us, but that's it.

Don't let the silly ones, ruin everything. ;p

My sister got the DVD and I noticed the PAL speedup for the first time ever. All that watching of 'Let it Go' on YouTube so many times. It sounded really off as did 'Love is an open door'.

I have never noticed it with any other film when going from DVD to Blu.

It is impressive when you consider physical releases and albums are slowly becoming irrelevant in place of digital releases and singles. Some people on another forum were speculating whether it might end up having sold the most of any album this year, which I don't think is possible since Taylor Swift and Adele have albums coming out in the Fall.

I can't remember how many weeks TLK was at number 1--10 weeks? If so, I think Frozen will manage to match it and possibly pass it to hold the record for most weeks spent at #1 for an animated film.

I don't recall Toy Story/Shrek & Despicable Me going through anything like this. Also, this is why I cant what for Big Hero 6! You already know the merch for BH6 isn't nearly gonna match that of Frozen. But I can't what to see what the Toy designs for Honey Lemon & Gogo Tomago look like.

Frozen will retain the #1 spot next week and could well remain there until mid-May, when either Mariah Carey or NOW 50 will likely take over the top spot. Both titles are currently scheduled for release on 5/6 and will bow on the HITS Building Album Sales Chart on 5/12.

My mother said Anna and Elsa cost $50 together, or $25 dollars each.

So that ebay auction is literally quadruple the retail price.

The Frozen merchandise has been so crazy!

The singing Dolls rarely last more than 20 minutes Online, physical stores can barely hold stock for a day. They've got people calling them every morning as soon as they open to check and see if they got anything in stock.

The Anna merchandise has been selling out, but not nearly as much as Elsa.
You will never find anything Elsa related in the stores.

And I remember when Disney pretty much promised that their merchandise would be back in time for the DVD, it all sold out the day before in less than 2 hours!!!

As for the inflated eBay prices... Unfortunately.. it's true.
If you think this is bad, I've seen dolls sold for over $100... The classic dolls that are worth $16.
And if you look at the "sold listings" section on eBay, it's unbelievable.
here are some examples:

Elsa plush: Original - $19.95. Sold on eBay for $64
Ugly Mattel dolls with bongs: $75 I believe they originally sold for $20 or even less!
Elsa costume: original around $50 I believe. Sold on Ebay for $175
Elsa costume + Tiara - $400!!!

And it gets worse!

I saw Rio 2 today. Almost walked out. One of the worst movies I have ever seen. The only I stayed in the movie is because of Kristen Chenoweth and she didn't do much either!

The costumes aren't that bad but I bet they are made of terrible cheap material. Burns your children's skin when you give it to them.

That's amazing. I wish it could even be certified 3x platinum before it falls off the chart, although today it's harder because it's more about downloads than shipments.
