Camera is a bit too close to Meryl.
I fear that this might be like Les Mis where it'll be mostly a close up of the characters singing.
I think I just imagined this scene to be a bit wider... Maybe more background.

Always, I'm glad you guys are liking it. :D
And she does sound amazing, except, I think her voice doesn't match the look of the character, but I prefer it this way cause I wanted to hear this song in a very mellow voice.

Disney Duster wrote:Hey Old Fish Tale, have you seen the original Broadway cast of Into the Woods? Is the setpfamily your favorite part of that, too? Whether they are or aren't, how do you feel about them? And then in comparison to Disney's animated Cinderella version of them? And then, what do you think of them from all we can tell about them from this upcoming Disney film? I love their costumes!
I'm sorry, but I haven't seen it yet. I want to see the film first. But when I do, I'll remember to answer your questions!

Ok thanks Old Fish Tale! Can't wait to know what you think of the movie!

When the Witch sings "Who out there could love you more than I? What out there that I cannot supply?", she should be desperately sad, not angry like Meryl does it. Her performance is good in the rest of it but not there. She's losing her daughter and wondering why her love isn't enough. Angry doesn't fit that situation.

Reviews from early screenings are mostly positive, saying it's very faithful to the source material and captures the essence of the stage production. Rapunzel still doesn't die, however. Early screening reviews tend to be more positive than critics but it sounds better than people expected!

Meryl Streep and, somewhat surprisingly, Chris Pine are considered best in show among the cast. Kendrick, Blunt, and Corden are getting some praise too.

It's almost here!

Yay! I like Anna Kendrick a lot, and I think that she sounds great in this song (this is the first full song from the musical I've ever heard, to my knowledge, so I can't compare her Cinderella to anyone else, but her range seems to work with the song!

Wow, I did not think Anna Kendrick sang beautifully enough for Cinderella but now I do! Well, almost... She sounded fantastic! They raised the key for her to make her use her soprano voice, which I'm not sure if I like since it sounds like she's straining with some notes, but in the end she belts and sounds incredible, so...still great!

I've noticed, she and Amanda Seyfried sound similar in their "twittering" of notes, like they can't fully project and have to rely on little tweets coming out. I wonder if that was Snow White's voice problem?!

The full "Stay With Me" track is now on Disney Vevo. Meryl Streep slays it like no other. Bernadette who? :P

Golden Globe nominations for:

BEST MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – COMEDY OR MUSICAL (Emily Blunt)
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE (Meryl Streep)

I think Meryl is the only likely Oscar nominee, MAYBE Best Picture if it has enough niche support in the voting.

However, Emily Blunt could very well win the Golden Globe since she has fairly weak competition in that category. I'd say it's between her and Amy Adams depending on their performances. The other three are Julianne Moore (who is also nominated for a dramatic role and favored to win), Helen Mirren, and Quvenzhane Wallis for Annie :|

I just got the deluxe soundtrack today...
It's really toned down, presentation wise, when compared to Frozen's release last year. i
Disks are plain navy and gold-yellow (not shiny)
Backgrounds are just plain navy.
No online features, just a survey.

Also, sloppy editing on the beginning of Last Midnight... After this and Mermaid, I wonder how the person in charge of editing got their job at disney...

I am a bit surprised that this thread is not getting more discussion than it is, especially since we are this close to the release date. I have been listening to the soundtrack since downloading it Tuesday morning from iTunes. I can honestly say that being a fan of the original show's cast album, I had some high expectations for the renditions by the film's cast. Actually, I am pleasantly surprised how at well this soundtrack is. The orchestrations are exquisite! and the score sounds fantastic. I hear instruments and melodies that I have never noticed before. To call it lush, still does not give it full credit.

Listening to the soundtrack, has me eagerly awaiting to see how the numbers are executed on the screen. The Prologue is extraordinary, and even though some things have been changed; I like the changes with how the dialogue has been changed to move the story along. Additionally, the added part of the curse( the blue moon) is pretty cool. All of the cast have good voices, and no one will ever replace Joanna Gleason, Bernadette Peters or Kim Crosbie; but, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Anna Kendrick give good performances. Some critics have commented that Lilla Crawford and Anna Kendrick have demonstrated/executed "pop" vocals/phrasing, but, I actually like their interpretations it gives a modern inflection to the performance that I think works for the film. Christine Baranski, Tracey Ullman, and Tammy Blanchard also help to solidify the ensemble; they are inspired casting choices.

Many people have lamented some about the loss of "No More" but, I am ok with it's exclusion in relation to how the Baker has taken on the role of the narrator. I do miss "Ever After"; I think that it could have been a fantastic 3rd act opener for the film.

I can not wait to see this film! and I really hope that it does well. The cast (from what I have seen in interviews) all seem committed to this project. Could this be a Disney classic? I certainly hope so.

I'm waiting to see the movie before getting the soundtrack. I've listened to the iTunes previews and a couple full songs but I want the rest to be a surprise. I know the songs already but I don't want the performances to be too predictable.
