The number of superhero films is ridiculous. And we've already started rebooting. At least this is a fresh area, to Disney's credit.

I just don't think that this will draw in the superhero fan base Disney is going for. Despite the renewed faith in their animated department, this isn't going to draw in adult Superhero fans because it's Disney and most people hold the belief that Disney is for kids (true or not).

It's also not going to draw in girls. The comic isn't well known so although they might pull in some hardcore Marvel fans, I imagine most average Marvel fans haven't heard of it.

That would be interesting. There is no way this is going to reach the levels of Frozen - surely. I'm also super glad someone else agrees with my 'Disney - we only care about attracting boys' believe. :D I don't know that much about WiR's numbers but their history suggests that generally the Princess films pull in the numbers (five in the Diamond Line, Tangled and Frozen loved). Boy films seem to sell less well (Tarzan, Robin Hood,.... and Aladdin dropped from Diamond everywhere except NA).

I hope it does well. Honestly. I like this renewed faith in the animation department and want more films as good as Frozen.

I wouldn't call out BH6 just yet. Superhero films have proven to be VERY successful in the box office in recent years. (Dark Knight and it's sequel each made $1 billion, The Avengers made $1.5 billion, Iron Man 3 made $1.2 billion, etc.) If Disney can market BH6 as being action packed and explosion filled, it would serve to A) remove or lessen the stigma of it being animated, and B) appeal to those superhero movie fans.

Plus if Hiro is attractive (or has a very famous voice actor that is heavily promoted), girls will come flocking to the theaters. I don't even like Iron Man that much, but I won't deny I like Robert Downey Jr.

Yeah, don't worry about/say that BH6 will flop. Superheroes are in now, especially for little boys. They will eat this up! In fact, they shouldn't even use the crappy marketing for Frozen and Tangled. This will succeed! Will it make as much as Frozen? Probrably not. Will it bomb? No way.

What is driving me insane is that they haven't announced the casting yet. Like hello? We at least knew Idina, Jonathan, and Kristen by now. We knew the cast for WIR the year before. This is ridiculous!

Here's my guess for the cast:

Dante Basco as Hiro or Tashada Hamada
Peter Cullen (The car from Transformers) as Baymax
Samuel Jackson as Wasabi-No-Ginger
Hayley Kiyoko (Lemonade Mouth) or Liz Gilles as GoGo Tomago
Dove Cameron as Honey Lemon
Jonah Hill as Fred

It's also too bad that as Disney Animation finally got their game back, we would have to wait 2 years for the next 2 Disney movies. Esepecially that the first WDAS movie in 2 years sounds really mediocre.

I don't think this will flop. I think that is very unlikely.
As disneyprincess11 said, it would be nice to know a cast. I think that might hype us up a bit. Or me at least. I always hype at the last minute when the wait is short.

No Pixar offerings until 2015, and Big Hero 6 is still in story work, even as it moves into production.
Meh, slow news day. Leaks, where are you?

This is pretty normal for Disney animated features these days. Frozen was also in story production at this point last year. I don't even think they finalised the story until September. I even remember Chris Buck in an interview discussing how the crew were confident they could get the movie finished by the release date, even though animation started later than usual for an animated film.

I was randomly surfing Wikipedia, and saw on America Ferrera's page that she is (supposedly) voicing Honey Lemon in this film. :? I have no idea why that would be there since I haven't heard anything linking her with the film before and it's not even listed on the Big Hero 6 Wikipedia page. Has there been false reports before that listed her and that's why it's there?

It's from a fake cast list from Disney Wiki, a couple months ago. It pretty much had all Dreamworks people in it. Including Hugh Jackman as a 19-25 year old (Fred).

You can make out some of the San Fransokyo Travel posters!

…also the irony in this photo is overwhelming.
Darn. Almost a leak. Luckily they didn't say no tumblr.

So are they backing down from San Fransoyko? Why else would they use the name Alcatraz instead of coming up with an alternate name?

The designs look pretty good themselves. Everybody has their own unique look, so it's not like somebody will start moaning about how they're "ripoff" designs like with Frozen-Tangled.

And Honey Lemon has glasses...That could be interesting, the first Disney female main lead with glasses, and considering people have always cried for a princess with glasses... :P

(in b4 people start bitching about how Honey Lemon should be a princess or how the characters don't "look" japanese enough)

So much for no leaks/PRODUCERS' PERMISSION REQUIRED  :P

Anyway, I'm loving the character designs! Honey Lemon is beautiful (reminds me of Rapunzel in a good way) and everyone looks awesome. Hiro's shirt reminds me of Ralph. But, my favorite looks are Go-Go (About time we had this look in Disney) and by far, THE VILLAIN! That's what I'm talking about for a Disney villain design!

Go-go looks a lot like Rukia from Bleach, I'm liking that design, it's pretty. Hope we see a close-up of her face...

I swear, some of those drawings looks like the anime versions of Wreck it Ralph and Mavis from Hotel Transylvania. :P

Yes, some of those Honey Lemon designs remind me of Ariel (and, by extension, Rapunzel and Anna). Hiro and Wasabi? look interesting. The villain--if that's who the designs on the right are supposed to be--looks underwhelming.

February just seems to be the month when new images come out for WDAS films, The leaked trailer for Tangled, WIR 3 game-world images & last February's infamous Frozen posters. Love the concept-designs & can't wait to see more in the coming months. I'm surprised something for BH6 has come out now, considering Frozen is on the cusp of a Billion Dollar worldwide gross & it's award season. I wouldn't think Disney would want anything to take attention away from Frozen til after the Oscars. Also, there is virtually no fan-art for BH6 on the entire web. You do a search for Moana & you will find many images of her. I've only seen about 4 fan-art images of anything BH6 related. BH6 remains me of WIR, after those 3 game world images were released, there was pretty much nothing til late that May.
