It's hard for me to look at this and not think of Roger Rabbit going: "Thanks. I needed that."

If that's for real, Disney would be trying a totally different marketing ploy here.

I'm not sure if anybody has posted this, but in the UK, it looks like it's going to be renamed to...

Zootropolis.

I don't know why they decided to change the name, and assuming that they're going to call the city of Zootopia "Zootropolis" throughout the film (and consequently have to change dialogue, signposts etc), I find it really a bit of a waste of time and effort.

Ermmmm I'm sorry what ?! How totally bizarre to change it now...wonder if it's a U.S. and UK change ? Or just UK ?

And what a strange thing to change it to, instead of keeping the original ....

.....as ever, Disney baffles me.

It's just the Disney UK channel where they call it Zootropolis, so I think it will only affect the UK (and Ireland as well, probably). I also think this is the only English-speaking territory where the title is changing. just checked Disney's YouTube channels for New Zealand and Australia and they use the original title as well.

A spokesman for Disney explained: “In the UK we decided to change the US title (Zootopia) to Zootropolis to merely allow the film to have a unique title that works for UK audiences.”

This is what I found...

----

I live in a part of Canada who main language is french, we have our own dub and we decide to call it Zootopia. But France decided to call it Zootopie, so sometimes maybe the country decides their own title... I don't know...

How crazy though ? I can't see the big difference between the two ... save for Zootopia is easier to pronounce ?

Yes, what a stupid and insipid change. I don't understand why it should be so crucial.

Me either ....

Was going to say that it gives me bad vibes when a change like that happens ... but then look at Tangled; that was a brilliant film, despite the name debate.

That title change was announced months ago, as previously documented on this thread...

^Yeah, it was announced a while back. It's on page 10. But Zootropolis is not too bad of a name. In Germany it's called Zoomania.

In related news, Katie Lowes is voicing a character in the film.
As for Lowes' future, she's back to work on Scandal Season 5 and also spent her hiatus voicing an animated character. "I did a movie called Zootopia. It’s an animated film from Disney and it comes out in February."

A similar thing happened with the first Harry Potter movie.

The book in the UK is called "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", while in America it's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

So for the first film, the actors did in fact have to shoot some scenes twice, to say either philosopher's stone or sorcerer's stone.

For most of the movie, though, the object is referred to simply as "the stone", so it would be less hassle for the cast and crew.

So maybe the city(?) of Zootopia is just going to be referred to as "the city"? Or the title is more of a statement than an actual place?

Well, I though Frozen was brilliant, but the titles they've used the past few years at Disney are still inane. I'm not sure a film like Zootopia has the same problem though, since it's entirely original? And at least the title didn't change into some random adjective. There are plenty of different, appropriate titles you could give a film that don't sound stupid.

Shakira plays a popstar named 'Gazelle', also providing a new song for the film:

I'm sorry, but this movie looks like a complete piece of shit. The trailer made me wonder if I was going crazy, since most people seemed to enjoy it, but seriously, I'm not going to defend this. If these are the kind of 'original' films Disney has in mind they will soon have me begging for Cars 3. There are some awful sounds in the universe.... Shakira's voice is quite up there.

I've been quite easy on Lasster's era at WDAS, but I'll call something a turd if that's what I see. This looks like one of the most unappealing Disney animated films since Home on the Range.

Also, does this remind anyone else of Disney's canned Wildlife? Which reportedly had Roy Disney running screaming out of a storyboard screening.

I seriously cannot get over how off putting this whole thing looks.

FFS, they could at least make her a wolf, considering she sang that song about there being a she-wolf in her closet.

I don't mind Shakira (indeed, "Hips Don't Lie" and "She-Wolf" are guilty pleasures of mine), but I do think this gag/casting is downright contrived...
