I think that's romantic wishful thinking. I just went over to imdb to see what people were saying on the message boards, and most of them agree with Scarred4Life, that she killed him. Even if she did make it to where he could breath under water with her kiss, he was still dying from his wounds. Also, the decent shot almost mimicked the one during the attack, right before the mermaids started eating one of the pirates under water. I'd like to believe as much as anyone that they lived happily ever after, but I left with the impression that she ate his ass.JiminyCrick91 wrote:But she kissed him and the pirates think that a mermaid kiss will keep you from drowning... I still disagree as I think the decent was different as was was clinging on to her not like the others. I asked my dad what he thought and he thinks "she saved him" however that may have been. She DOES know how to get to the fountain though so she could have done it that way... It's not like she needed to find other things herself, everything was there. I don't know but I don't believe that she ate him. We will just have to ask Ted & Terry, like last movie though.DancingCrab wrote:

Thank you. I was getting nervous after seeing the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. I trust you much more than I trust them.dvdjunkie wrote:Went to our World Class IMAX theater at midnight last night to see the movie, and it was well worth the time we have had to wait for this one. Ian McShane almost steals every scene he is in, and Johnny Depp is given a little more to do in this film. Some great one-liners, and, yes, there is a little tease after the credits for the next installment, for which Depp has already said that he is in for the ride.

I liked this one better than both 2 and 3 (it could never be worse than 3), and was it just me or did either of those movies have no impact on this one? If anybody has never seen any of these movies I'd just recommend 1 and 4.
Freaky mermaids were cool as was the skeleton with the map in the bed. Was wondering what other ride references they could do at this point.

Not entirely true. Barbosa clearly had the Black Pearl before 4 (and lost it). Jack had the map he got from Barboasa who got it from Sao Feng. Is it as tightly nit together as two and three are with each other and from the events of the first? No, but I wouldn't say the 2nd and 3rd didn't have some impact of 4.Flanger-Hanger wrote:I liked this one better than both 2 and 3 (it could never be worse than 3), and was it just me or did either of those movies have no impact on this one? Did everyone who saw it stay for after the credits?

I thought about it more after I posted that comment and I agree with the points you've mentioned. I think I felt more that way since its been so long since I've watched the third one.milojthatch wrote:Not entirely true. Barbosa clearly had the Black Pearl before 4 (and lost it). It may have helped that I watched the first three before I saw this one. As for the end bit at the end, I was really hoping it would deal with Philip and Syrena instead, but I fear if that is answered more concretely, it will be in Pirates 5. That said, it could lead to something in the next one.Flanger-Hanger wrote:I thought about it more after I posted that comment and I agree with the points you've mentioned. I enjoyed it, but felt it was a big step down from the previous trilogy. I know a lot of people tear apart Dead Man's Chest and (especially) At World's End, but for all those films' flaws, they still made a big impression on me and were filled with great moments.
On Stranger Tides may have a more streamlined story, but there's a definite spark missing. Everything I was watching felt competent and enjoyable, but not really moving. I didn't find any of the action scenes very thrilling (though the oft-mentioned mermaid scene at least felt distinctive), I smiled at some of the jokes but never laughed, and I never got the sense of any stakes being raised or danger looming around the corner. Of the new characters, I liked Angelica, but Blackbeard was merely serviceable, Philip and Syrena were just sort of there, and the rest of the cast was just filler.
I know this post is coming off as highly negative, but I did actually have fun watching this movie. I'm just disappointed because it could've and should've been better. Dead Man's Chest and At World's End are like messy meals that still taste really good and satisfy. On Stranger Tides is a neater course, but tastes blander and doesn't leave you feeling filled. Curse of the Black Pearl is in a class all its own, both tasty AND refined.

Watched it today (was forced so by my bf, who's a big Depp-freak).
I didn't care too much for the original trilogy, so I went in with little to no expectations. Had a great time and actually liked it more than I would have thought.
I did have some problems with mostly some of the mermaid-stuff that could have been explained better, so I might go to see the movie a second time to see if I've missed anything.
(for example: SPOILERS:
- They sunk Barbossa's ship, but not Black Beards ship who was there at the end, at the exact same spot Barbossa's ship was when it was attacked. Why wouldnt the mermaids also sink BB ship as revenge to his attack on them and have him and his crew trapped on the island?
- How did Serena get from where she was tied up to the Fountain Of Youth, which was 'upstairs', did she fly or swam upstream or was there a shortcut and if so, I would have liked this was better explained. A shortcut would be lame, IMO.
- I believe one of the pirates on that little fisher's boat said to his son something about they (mermaids) could either kiss you and make you breathe under water (and heal you or something) and do you no harm or kiss you and devour you. I believe Serena rescued Phillip.
One other thing, if the Spaniards wanted to destroy the Fountain and they already had the Chalices in their possession, why not destroy those immediately, instead of polishing them at a table to have them get stolen?
Also the title of the movie irks me, why wasn't it just called "The Fountain Of Youth" instead of OST (even though the store is loosely based on a novel called OST)?
All in all, I really liked the movie, though it could have been 10-20 mins shorter. Might go and see it for a second time (in 2D, because the 3D added absolutely nothing).
And oh yeah, Penelope Cruz still can't act her way out of a paper bag if she had to. They should have gone with Salma Hayek...

Many a spoiler ahead. Ye be warned.
I'm in the same boat as Disneykid.
On Stranger Tides left me no memorable jokes, battle scenes, or favorite moments. I liked the trilogy as whole better than this movie.
I did like the mermaids and they were well executed. (It wasn't hard to like 'em, I've always loved mermaids.) Definitely thought mermaids>fountain of youth.
I thought the secret portal was the shortcut. The pirates came in rising from the floor while everyone else just walked out from the mist.
On characters...
I didn't care for Angelica or Blackbeard. I always knew Angelica was impersonating Jack. I wanted to be surprised, but I guessed easily. I couldn't care for Blackbeard 'cause we always knew what was going to happen to him. And I felt for neither during the fountain of youth scene and never doubted who Jack would choose.
Barbossa surprised me. Wasn't expecting so big of a change. It suited him though. The scenes of him and Jack were good of course.
I wanted more of the young cabin boy. He was featured in the trailers and thought he'd have a bigger purpose to the story.
Don't get me started on the Spaniards. They're whole mission was to show up, destroy everything and then leave? That's IT?
At the end of the day, I liked it about the same as Dead Man's Chest by its lonesome. ✰✰✰1/2
Q: Is there hard evidence for a 5th movie? I keep hearing rumors...

What did he do to deserve her favor?Khonnor wrote:- How did Serena get from where she was tied up to the Fountain Of Youth, which was 'upstairs', did she fly or swam upstream or was there a shortcut and if so, I would have liked this was better explained. *spoilers I guess*

Just the way it ended the post. That made my day.
I haven't seen this film, though I will when it's on pay-per-view. I'm not a super-fan, so I don't mind spoiling myself (I'll forget it anyway). I was just going to ask if there was going to be a 5th movie, but disneyboy's post answers that: up in the air.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Tops Weekend Box Office

I'd say the possibilities of a 5th Pirates is for sure in the cards now...question is what direction of story will this go....the thing about Pirates OST is that I have no idea what direction the 5th movie would go and be worth watching

Pirates have taken over the box office!
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides topped the weekend box office, Deadline reports. On Friday, Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz's adventure flick pulled in $35 million in the U.S. and Canada. The film earned an additional $32 million on Saturday. Worldwide, the film earned $256.3 million, making it the biggest international opening ever.

Probably, however, as I learned with the last "Narnia," studios often don't get back all of the money they earn overseas. So, while it's all well and good, Disney will base such decisions on domestic more then not. That said, I'm betting a 5th film will be made, but would not be surprised if the budged is less. I expect these films to make less and less as more are made. I think it is safe to say that "A World's Ed" was the height of the "Pirates" booty if you will.
I have read that a script for the next one is done and waiting a green light. You know, what I was thinking, what if Syrena was taking Philip to Atlantis? That is about the only major sea or pirate lore/ story I can think of that has not be explored yet. Just a thought...

That sounds logical.....quite a possibility.....they said that pirates would be jumping in to Jules Verne type things or ideas.....I'd say Pirates go the center of the world or Atlantis is more likely than Capitan Jack Sparrow discovering a time machine and comes to the 1980s.....milojthatch wrote:disneyboy20022 wrote:Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Tops Weekend Box Office
