I finally got to see the movie and I really liked it. It was refreshing, touching and entertaining. However, what troubles me is the sudden change in tone once Charles Muntz is revealed to be the villain. I may be just nitpicking, but that action-packed third act didn't sit really well with me: in my opinion, it just doesn't go along with the rest of the movie. I would have preferred a much calmer resolution. It's still a great movie though.

I just watched the trailer of this film, but seriously.
Are they presenting this as a real film?

I mean, it looks just shocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really is just a bunch of flickering squares and circles.
The exact same sterile, plasticky look, the characters are dead behind the eyes, and the movements are really unnatural and not fluid at all, almost like slowmotion, just like the first Toy Story film.

Is this the level 3d has come to in 2009?
I'm starting to get really worried for Rapunzel.

What an incredible relief to see the beauty and fluidity of the PATF trailer.

Starting today, you can pre-order UP on DVD and Blu-Ray at Best Buy and get a free collectible Steelbook. The Steelbook holds 4 discs, so it is clear that it was designed for the Blu-Ray, but you can still get it free with a preorder of both DVD versions. You just take it to the register and pay $7.50 now. You take your receipt back to the same Best Buy on 11/10 and they take $7.50 off the price of the movie that they will be holding for you.

The artwork is really nice, but it is very big. I wish they would have only made it hold 3 discs since there is no reason to keep the digital copy disc. Then it would have been the same size as the Snow White Steelbook.

The only other gift-with-preorder I've seen so far is a pin set when you order from disneystore.com.

Even with four discs, I think they could've easily made it thin like Snow White. For SW, one side held two discs so Up could have easily housed two discs on both sides.

The front cover is SO beautiful! Don't know if I will want to buy Up at BB because Toys R Us might have a better price, but since SW sold out of steel-cases, I will be getting this just in case because I can return it.

I had asked the same question on Blu-Ray.com and someone pointed out that the double disc side of the Snow White case is thicker and if they did it on both sides, they wouldn't close together. I guess it would have taken too much reworking of the structure. The way this one works is the steel sides are the same size as the Snow White case and they added the plastic buffer zone. But even with the way they did it, it still seems bigger than it needs to be. Also, the spindles hold 3 discs and the 4th is housed on the inside. I feel like they could have just done 1 double disc spindle and put a disc on either side to save some space.

Picked up the Steelbook today, and its nice.

It is a little big. It has enough room on the inside that the 2 trays for the discs can move around (it could have been made smaller and still had plenty of room inside). The trays also feel a little flimsy, but it looks nice on the shelf.

From those pictures, the steelbook really doesn't look that impressive (I ended up getting the steelbook for Snow White, and it's pretty impressive, though). I, too, am not fond of that cover art while the regular Blu-Ray cover looks great. I might just pick the Blu-Ray up, as well.
Nonetheless, I'm very excited to have Up on Blu-Ray! It was an absolutely gorgeous and amazing film and I'm so excited to view it on Blu-Ray!

I will have to preorder and get that Steelbook! Though, with Snow White I did and ended up not even getting it there (the movie I mean) because I got it free from Amazon Vine, so I ended up giving the receipt to a friend to use... Can't complain but it was basically paying 7 dollars or whatever for the steelbook case... Anyways, I still will probably do it for Up too, as I want the set with the Lamp, and I doubt I'll be offered that from Amazon Vine.

Incidentally, does anyone know if action figures or even WDCC statuettes from "Up" will ever come out? I want something to commemorate this movie, but I'm done with snowglobes because they always form ever growing air bubbles...

The steelbooks were on a end cap at my store. You just need to take one with you when you check out and let them know if you want the Blu-ray combo pack, or the standard DVD (there are 3 UPC codes on the back, and they scan which one you want). The preorder is $7.50 and that amount is taken off the total price when you come back to pickup the movie.

I'm glad they did this. More movies should include this as an option. I loved the one for Tarzan, and there's also one on Moulin Rouge! that is quite good too.

At the same time, it's also reminding me of the little girl whose dying wish was to see Up and so Pixar sent someone with the DVD and gifts, and the girl was in so much pain that her eyes were shut so the mother had to narrate for her.

I finally got to see this today, and I absolutely loved it.
It was my first 3D experience with an actual movie, and it worked flawlessly. Only during the beginning my glasses were broken, or something. I told the patron outside if I could switch them with another pair and he did. He also said that would sometimes happen. I missed the Toy Story 3 teaser because of that.
Partly Cloudy looked amazing, and was a fun little short. It was a bit obvious that they tried to test the animation of clouds, but for the short length it wasn't bothersome.
Then Up itself. It seemed to me like everything was in it, and it was mixed incredibly well. You would go from a sad scene, to a scene filled with humor to an action-filled scene. It worked great. Carl's bond with Ellie was never forgotten, the humor never felt out of place and the action seemed totally appropriate in a movie about someone looking for adventure.
I didn't get the feeling of the typical buddy movie that Pixar made a couple of times prior to this. It was a refreshing new take on it.
I also thought Muntz was an interesting 'villain'. He wasn't even evil, he was just too obsessed by the thing he was searching for all his life. In a way he mirrored Carl himself, and that's what good about him. The dogfight wasn't distracting either, if you've come over the fact that they have collars so they can talk, or can cook.
The 3D worked incredibly well, I think. It never felt gimmicky to me. It was more an extension of the existing scenery, and that's the way it should be used. I loved the way the newsreel in the beginning didn't have any depth at all, and you would suddenly feel like you were in a movie theater when the camera panned out to reveal the audience seeing it.
By the way, did anyone catch the Pizza Planet Truck? I caught John Ratzenberger and the Wilhelm Scream, but I missed that one. If it's in there. And what about the A-113? Did that show up anywhere?

I'm glad I finally got the chance to see it, it's been a while since I was instantly mesmerized by a Pixar film (Ratatouille and Wall-E got to me only after a couplen of viewings) but they still got it. I preordered the American Blu as well. The only fortunate thing about the fact that we got to see the film so late in the game is that the Blu-ray release is there in just a couple of weeks.

The Pizza Planet truck is hidden in the scene where Carl takes off. They do some panning shots of the city below and it's in one of those shots.

I didn't personally find A-113, but somebody told me it's in Muntz's ship at the end. I'm not sure where, though.
