I know how you feel. I've been watching Tarzan promo clips for the last year and wearing the CD out in my car (I rotate it now between Tarzan, TLM demos and the German Hunchback soundtrack).

It's worth saving up for though, I saved through the entire of uni so that when I graduated (and for my 21st) I was able to go to Disney World. That was in 2005 and I've been saving since then for this trip, so if you have your heart set on Disney Broadway then save up and you will get there.

In the mean time make sure you treat yourself, Beauty and the Beast is touring the UK again later this year (if you book early you get the best seats can sometimes get a cheaper price) and if you can afford a weekend or even a night in London then you can see The Lion King or Mary Poppins (my girlfriend and I went on the cheap, staying in a Travel Lodge and our parents bought us our tickets for Christmas).

I feel exactly the same, amen :D

Thanks, I'll be going down to London in a few months to see Wicked and Mary Poppins. When I think about it, we're quite lucky to have so many broadway shows here in the UK. Most countries don't have any. We definitely have the most outside of the USA.

Wow, does anyone else find Flotsam kind of hot?

Why, thank you. And thanks for posting up the pictures. They all look lovely.

I kinda get the feeling that Flotsam & Jetsam will have a larger role in the musical.

I got bored, so I decided to make Sierra look more Ariel like. She doesn't look too bad, alot like Ariel. Then, as everyone knows, I was more in Kerry Butler's corner. I have come to the realization, after manipulating Kerry's picture. That she would not have made a good Ariel, her facial structure doesn't match as well as Sierra's.

Thanks Jeremy :)

And yes, Sherie Rene is very gorgeous! I wonder how that will play out, are they going to vamp Ursula into a sexy mermaid? Also, Sherie Rene's voice is very sweet, I'm excited with all these twists and turns this musical is making.

Update from TLM blog:

I received a very exciting email earlier this week from a source who works for Disney (for obvious reasons they wish to be kept anonymous). They stated in his email the following:

" The show will look a lot like this:
Image

Here is a collaborative pic from two designers. Typsin has portfolio online. Expect stuff like this.

Also I saw prototypes of Sebastian and Flounder. Only the head of the actor is visible. They will wear a mask/helmet that will also be the body of the character. The arms (fins) will be controlled by two rods connected to gloved hands. The rest of the actor is mask in a camouflage outfit. The rest of the animal characters are this way and it really adds a dimension to puppets we have seen by Disney before. What is great is that since the character is constantly swimming, they do not need a platform to hide under.

The set is incredible.

Also the orchestra will feature a REAL steel drum set.

Please add "Fathoms Below" to our song list. That song is indeed in the show and they are using and early version of it to start the musical. There is also two dance numbers. One on the ship by the sailors, and one in the kingdom on Ariel's day out.

Also a HUGE concern is the shell-bra thing. Right now they are working on makign something that is invisble but supportive. The shoes and the shells are custom so this part of the production is really expensive....

Also that "movement" workshop a few months ago was concerning flying. There is one scene where Ariel and Sebastian/Flounder flys upwards after she gets legs. This is done by a large device. It is also the same thing that makes Ursula large in the end. It's kinda like the Elphaba rig in Wicked. Simple.... but spectacular. "

This is very exciting news coming from the very inside of the production and I hope to hear more from this source soon.

Wow! Now I'm really upset that this isn't doing test runs in other cities, like Chicago, before ending up on Broadway. That looks and sounds amazing. I'm sure I'll see it someday, but I like TLM more than the other Disney films that have been turned into musicals. I've seen the four that have come to Chicago so far (Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aida, On The Record). I really hope this ends up over here within a few years (or I end up in New York). Thanks for posting, Little Merboy.
I'm currently watching and reviewing every Disney film in chronological order. You can follow along at my blog, The Disney Films, and also follow me on Twitter.

The Little Mermaid On Braodway

Post by Disney Duster »

Wow, thanks The Little Merboy! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!

That did remind me A LOT of the end of "Defying Gravity" in Wicked when Elphaba is in the air and her cape is HUGE. Because that woman is in the air and her skirt is HUGE.

It looks like no one has their final costumes on. It looks like Ariel could be in that white dress, and Ursula is the woman in what puts hoop skirts to shame. I'm betting the people around her skirt will either be the poor unfortunate souls or invisible helpers. It looks like a lot will be invisible, and the stage will be dark and use blacklighting and glow-in-the-dark effects. It looks like Ursula's costume will have moons and stars on it, which is perfect because she is a witch!

I didn't think it was actually a clip from the show...is it? I thought it was like something from another show that is sort of used as inspiration. If this is...it does look like "Wicked", too much like it for my tastes.

It's not a picture of the show. I've seen that picture on the internet last year. If I recall, it's a picture of another set from a play designed by the same person who will design the set for The Little Mermaid. It's just a picture of how The Little Mermaid might look on stage.

It kinda reminds me of the Defying Gravity scene in Wicked, but I highly doubt this picture has anything to do with Wicked itself.
