Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I'm surprised they haven't announced the Gothel casting yet. Would've liked Cher, but she's probably impossible for this. I read some article that mentioned Helena Bonham-Carter and she would be alright. But I haven't heard her mentioned among the names actually being considered. Of the ones they've actually brought up considering, Paniz Rahnama is my favorite. Whoever it is will have to be autotuned like Gadot as the Queen though. Even Cher and HBC rely heavily on autotune though, so not a huge deal, I guess. As far as the character itself, Rahnama has potential to be better than the original film for me like Gadot with the Queen, just because she fits the concept more of her being vain and draining youth from Rapunzel.
I think that's just a Disney addition, right? In the original story, she just wanted Rapunzel so she had a child, not because she was using Rapunzel for anyhing, I thought. I still hate they neutralized the character since the original actually had powers and could've been much more threatening. Plus, her using Rapunzel from some gain makes the dynamic less interesting, in the original you can believe the Witch does love Rapunzel in her way.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
OMG yay you saw Puss in Boots 2 and liked Perrito! He is my favorite male animated character! At least out of ones that are animals. There's no boy fairy character I really know and like. I guess Peter Pan comes close... Did you like the whole movie? I really love the whole movie!
Anyway, Divinity, I know you hate Meryl's second gown, but that actually is my real favorite film costume after Helena's fairy godmother dress. Then it's gotta be the Woods Stepmother ballgown, Lucinda's ballgown, then finally Cinderella's. I talk about the Witch's 2nd look here with pictures. Cinderella's 2015 ballgown grew on me, but it is still low in my favorite costume list. I did want to say, the 2015 film did take a lot from the 1950 in more than just names. The mice were never anthropomorphized or Cinderella's friends in the original tale, so that is from the animation. The death of Cinderella's father was not in the original tale, but in the animation. Also, the destruction of Cinderella's mother's dress was never in the original tale but in the animation. Same for Cinderella being locked in her room, or being freed by the mice. Same for the breaking of the glass slipper.
You are right about those story details of the original Rapunzel tale vs.Tangled. Though Gothel's voice actress says she unexpectedly came to love Rapunzel in her way and I always saw it like that even though she loves her less than say, the Into the Woods Witch.
Thumper, I actually like the very bright blue they gave Cinderella's dress with the filter. It really stands out. I like all the bright colors of the film.
Back on topic, I hope Tangled live-action gets good costumes, whatever they are like.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I didn't love the whole thing, some parts / aspects I didn't care for, but a lot of good things. It's the first Shrek-related film I've liked since Shrek 2. Shrek 3, 4, and the first PiB are just terrible. The Donkey movie would be lucky if it's as good as it... Speaking of Perrito, I saw something about how he is a foil to Death, which makes sense with him being a hopeful, self-fulfilled character. Funny he and Death are both canine. I had also read something random about how the vampire in Sinners was inspired by Death in this film...
Not sure about my all-time favorite animated male character. And depends if you include TV series, anime (and I guess videogames are animated, too...). Leaving out games though, Yusuke Urameshi from YYH is probably mine. Others that come to mind: Merlin, Jim Hawkins, Cogsworth, Aladdin, Natsu Dragneel, Crona, Endymion / Mamoru, Hades, Littlefoot, Varian, Scar, Kyuzo, Yamato Ishida, Ashitaka, Hexxus.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Thank you for telling me all that, Divinity, I like hearing your opinions and I even got to hear interesting film tidbits like how Perrito was meant to be Death’s opposite (clever and cool!) they are both canines, true (clever and cool!) and the Sinners (a fave movie of mine) main vampire being based on the PiB: Last Wish Death character (wow!)!
I can’t remember that much of how Shrek 2 went but remember the gist and people do say it was the best one in the franchise (not counting PiB: Last Wish). I did indeed hate the other Shreks after the first two and hated the first PiB.
Please tell me what YYH means and who Yusuke is since you singled him out! Would love to know. You can PM me about it if you want.

Yusuke's the main character from YuYu Hakusho.
I really can't remember much about any of the costumes from Into the Woods aside from Meryl Streep's. I pulled my Blu-ray out yesterday to watch soon to refresh my memory. I only watched the film once before.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I was gonna guess Yu Yu Hakusho! I read the Wiki page a little and it does sound interesting even though detectives and martial arts battles aren’t my thing (though I kinda like Dragonball stuff, but I’d only watch that with a friend interested in it).
I would be so glad if you watched Into the Woods again and liked any costumes! The costumes I really like, I’ll just say to make it easy, are Cinderella’s, her stepfamily’s, and the Witch’s. Rapunzel’s is also clever, and make sure you check out her prince’s butt in that leather! No joke, just look out for any time he gets off or on his horse!

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
Well, a lot of anime has fighting scenes. To me, they aren't too different from the climactic villain defeating scenes at the end of Disney films, just in an episode format.
I watched ItW again and I actually did like a lot of the costumes. The Witch's dress from when she has her beauty restored is very pretty, but I also loved Rapunzel's and Cinderella's dresses. I prefer silver and white as colors generally--part of why I like the dresses in the 1950 film, Ever After, and The Glass Slipper--but Cinderella's gold dress there was about as nice as I could envision a gold dress being. I would love if they made Rapunzel's dress in this remake more like that one in ItW. It's similar as far as color and shape to the animated film's dress, but worlds better.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
I guess I am not into martial arts type fighting I thought anime usually had? I most like Sailor Moon type fighting, with magic.
Wow! Yay! I am so glad you gave Into the Woods and its costumes another chance…and liked a lot of the costumes! Thank you for re-watching! I like the Witch’s beauty-restored dress most because I see it as making pretty shapes with ribbons. That you now like the dress is just wonderful to me. And Cinderella’s and Rapunzel’s, too. I love Cinderella’s because it combines an 18th century hiked up overskirt with 19th century cap sleeves and feels Cinderella while being true to the golden, Grimm, wanting to run away Into the Woods version of the tale. Rapunzel’s manages to be pretty while being a metaphor for how she is bound to her tower.
Cinderella’s dress indeed looks better silver and white than gold, so I agree, they did the best they could with gold.
True that they emulated the color and even the puff sleeves with long sleeves of Tangled’s dress with Into the Woods. I actually love Tangled’s Rapunzel dress when the sleeves used to be off-the-shoulder like in concept art. I would so love if they did that for the remake. Hey, did you like the Once Upon a Time season 6 pink and gold Rapunzel dress? I actually love that one and would not mind something like it in the Tangled remake.

Re: Tangled (Live-Action)
To be honest, I was never particularly impressed by the outfits in the remakes. In the remake of Beauty and the Beast, I liked Belle`s regular blue dress and pink hood, but her yellow gown was plain and underwhelming. The same goes for the Beast`s outfits. In Aladdin, I liked Jasmine`s outfits, but Aladdin`s were lackluster. I never cared for the outfits in those in The Little Mermaid at all. But frankly, I liked the outfits for Snow White in her titular movie, as for those in Pinocchio. But frankly, I liked the oufits for Rapunzel and Flynn in Tangled.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Sat Jan 24, 2026 9:17 am I prefer faithful re-creations (more or less) like B&tB, Aladdin, Snow White, Pinocchio, etc. Of course, the outfits in Tangled were always hideous... So technically I wouldn't care if there were things that were different here. I did love the outfit designs Rapunzel and Eugene received in the second and third seasons of the TV series though. I'm really only here for this one to see how Menken can expand the music with less restraint on him without the original directors involved.
That said, I'm sure bigger fans of the original than me liked the outfits, so naturally they'll anger those fans with severe changes. And anyway, if TLM was anything to go by, even in the case where the designs weren't that great in the original (Ariel's pink and blue dresses were always very meh, although I loved the wedding and sea foam dresses, tbh), what they come up with is always much worse, never better.

^ At least we can agree in liking SW/Pinocchio's outfits and not caring for TLM's anyway.
I can't say to the latter. I never watched all of OUAT season 6 and none of 7. I guess because I knew there was executive meddling at the time that was ruining the show and it was near the end, I checked out. I was just like...why can't they let the show go out on its own terms instead of making it so the fans can't even get a proper ending or enjoy the show at the end? I remember a Rapunzel character had appeared in season 3. I really only watch the first 4 episodes of season 6 (before the meddling to force the showrunners to do a full-season arc of "untold stories" or whatever it was rather than the half-arcs of seasons 3-5 happened), the musical episode, and the finale. I remember they had potential that last season, but it ended up mostly pretty terrible what little I did see of the post-Hyde episodes. If the Evil Queen double had been a legitimate threat like Regina in the first season, if Naveen Andrews had returned as Jafar instead of that new actor, if Hyde had become Regina's love interest as you could tell they had intended to do, I think I'd have enjoyed it. I did think the idea of the Black Fairy mentioned in season 2 coming back as the final villain tied to the darkness was a good idea, although I'd hoped they might do a much better take of Maleficent with that character (a new actor, threatening, more like how they did Nimue). Too bad.
I guess to me the fighting is glorified magic although they try to "explain" the powers more in those types of shows.Disney Duster wrote: ↑Mon Mar 02, 2026 11:37 pm I guess I am not into martial arts type fighting I thought anime usually had? I most like Sailor Moon type fighting, with magic.
