Pretty much. If it's true that Disney offered the role to Zendaya, there's no way she would have turned it down.Disney's Divinity wrote:Well, that says it all.

I'm glad that Zendaya taking the role is inaccurate. I'm seeing a huge online push for Sophia Lillis to play Ariel. I certainly see a resemblance but I've never seen her in anything so I don't know how talented she is.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I like your ideas Sotiris and JeanGreyForever. I have always loved the original "singing as she comes back to Eric" ending.
I guess Ariel saying "I love you daddy" after she and Eric get what is justly right makes sense. I just think a big apology beforehand that they actually did consider originally makes it even better.
I want Sophia Lillis so bad. Her acting is fantastic. They just need to dub her singing voice.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
The reprise is gorgeous! I actually love it more than the final one. I would love them to revive it for the live action movie. I'm beyond curious who they are looking for as Ariel. As long as she can sing right, then I'm okay.
Am I the only one who would love a proper apology from Ariel to her dad?
I agree with Lindsay Ellis that Ariel really learns nothing from her journey.

One has to be a fool to turn down a Disney Princess role like this.Sotiris wrote:Pretty much. If it's true that Disney offered the role to Zendaya, there's no way she would have turned it down.Disney's Divinity wrote:Well, that says it all.

But seriously, though I'll admit that my view on Ariel has softened a bit and I don't consider her to be as selfish as I used to, I think an apology was needed not only from Ariel, but from her father. Where they both eventually realized their faults and showed equal growth. Don't tear me down, Ariel lovers

Wouldn't refusing to comment mean she was offered the role? If she weren't she would be able to tell us.JeanGreyForever wrote:I'm glad that Zendaya taking the role is inaccurate. At the very least I'm thinking she was offered a part as a supporting role.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
It could mean that they are in negotiations or that Zendaya hasn't been outright offered the role but is still under consideration, perhaps amongst other actresses. So they don't wish to confirm or deny any reports just yet because nothing is set in stone.Kyle wrote:Wouldn't refusing to comment mean she was offered the role? If Sophia could sing well I think we would know by now, and Ariel has to sing very well (she has the most beautiful voice according to characters in the film).TheSequelOfDisney wrote:Why?Disney Duster wrote:I want Sophia Lillis so bad. Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Zendaya has responded to the casting rumors. It sounds to me that she accepted the role but isn't allowed to confirm it yet. We'll see.
Source: https://people.com/movies/zendaya-addre ... e-mermaid/The Smallfoot actress, 22, tells PEOPLE she wouldn’t be opposed to playing Ariel in a live-action film of The Little Mermaid — something fans have been behind since rumors swirled she’d been offered the role in August.
“I loved The Little Mermaid,” Zendaya says in this week’s issue of PEOPLE. “It is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. I was obsessed with it when I was a little kid.” Despite her love of the red-haired mermaid, Zendaya says “it’s just a rumor so we will see.”
As for her career trajectory, the actress says she’s excited for what lies ahead. “I am an actor, I just like good roles,” she says. “Things I can soak into and really sink my teeth into. I always try to find characters that I can find some human connection to.”
Source: https://variety.com/2018/film/news/zend ... 202953636/Even if it’s only a rumor for now, Zendaya says she’d be open to starring in a “Little Mermaid” live action film. At the premiere of “Smallfoot” Saturday, the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” actress confirmed to Variety‘s Marc Malkin that her involvement in a live action version of the hit 1989 Disney film is so far "just a rumor" — but that doesn’t mean she’s not interested. “I mean, yeah, why wouldn’t I?” she said, when asked if she’d want to do the film.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl_0NNF6FGQQ: You're rumored to be Ariel in the new Little Mermaid live-action...
Zendaya: Rumor. Just a rumor...for now.
Q: Would you be up for turning your hair red?
Zendaya: We'll see.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Apparently, Disney wants to cast Lady Gaga as Ursula. Oy vey.
Source: https://thedisinsider.com/2018/10/09/di ... e-mermaid/Back in August it was reported that Disney had offered the role of Ariel in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid to singer/actress Zendaya. Since then we haven’t heard much on the project until now.
We have heard from a source close to the project, that music superstar Lady Gaga is high on Disney’s wish list for a role in the film. Most likely for the role of Ursula. While we haven’t been able to confirm any of this (we reached out to a studio representative who could not comment at this time), we’ve decided to share it as a rumor and nothing more.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
She’s actually a fantastic singer and actress with musical theatre training. But yeah, very misscasted. And wouldn’t it make more sense for her to go for something like Wicked, a more starry part which is better for her skills?

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Wow… I love Lady Gaga, but… Wow… And on top of Zendaya, too. They really are determined to utterly destroy this, aren’t they? I'm so glad they delayed this back when so that Miranda could help "preserve" the integrity of the original classic, as he put it; he's doing a wonderful job of it so far.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Gaga is one of my favorites but the role of Ursula wouldn't suit her at all. Clearly Disney is more focused on star power here rather than who is actually right for the role.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I'll take it. We know she can sing, so that checks off that box at least. She even has a hint of rasp when she wants to which helps.
She's a bit too thin for the role if they plan on portraying her at all like the animated one. Will they put her in prosthetics or just leave her as is and go for something different? Maybe they'll do both and give her a backstory where they show her getting heavier and older.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
Maybe they just want her to sing the title song at the end credits and it's just blown out of proportion.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
If they cast her as Ursula I'm giving the movie a big fat boycott, and I hope many will follow. That would be the worst miscasting in any Disney movie EVER! Probably a fake rumor though!!!

Hmm ... how about if she plays Vanessa ?

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)
I’m not seeing A Star Is Born in theaters (only bought the soundtrack) although I doubt much has changed going by the previews for that, but, going by AHS alone, she’s a very weak actress. Playing The Countess during Hotel let her lean on her glamor diva schtick to hide her weaknesses, and, while some of that would lend itself to Ursula, no way is she a good enough actress to play the character. Ursula would take more than just striking a pose here and there.
