Anyone think there might be a bonus feature honoring Robin Williams' role as the Genie?

There´s already one. It´s on Aladdin and the King of Thieves DVD.

But I do believe there´s going to be a dedication for it. And I hope they keep the Genie charity intro that was on the DVD and, hopefully that leads to those Genie clips been grouped together for the BD.

I need to look over my 'Return of Jafar' DVD!

I'm glad Aladdin is coming. Still annoyed Disney UK kicked it off the Diamond Line over here. I'll make a decision whether to buy based on the new special features (if any, considering how good the platinum was!)
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

Me too. Since it's kicked off the Diamond Line in the UK, it is kicked off in Norway as well.

I don't think a five-minute "Behind The Microphone" featurette that covers the entire voice cast (with maybe one minute devoted to Williams himself) is what he had in mind.

They'll definitely do some kind of tribute to Williams and his work for the company on the blu-ray. I bet that'll be something that gets a lot of hype in the press release as well.

Yep you are quite right. I meant something in light of his recent untimley death. It is one of his most beloved roles. Without Robin Williams there is no Genie

I would hope so.

I understand. But that´s the only thing we´ve seen from Robin Williams so far.

Hey, i have just discovered that I'd missed out on the Peter Pan Diamond Edition. Amazon is out of stock for a few weeks now and DeepDiscount too. So I decided to order the UK version with Hook on the cover and also Hercules (with Hades on the cover, just because I hate the actual cover). My question is, anybody knows whether they're similar to the standard UK editions? Was everything carried over in terms of bonus features?

I don't quite know what you mean by 'Standard UK editions'. Disney only provide standard over here. No frills or deluxe packages anymore. :(

I don't think everything was carried over (it rarely is!)
By looking at the back of the Peter Pan bluray, it looks like the main chunk was carried over. Under bonus features it lists - the making of, audio commentary, sing along, deleted song, 'The Peter Pan that almost was' - the Peter Pan story (featurette), in Walt's words - 'Why I made Peter Pan', Tinkerbell - A fairy's tale and some music videos.

I can't be sure as I haven't really explored the special features on the bluray but comparing it to the back of the platinum, it looks like it is missing the alternative opening, read along feature that was on disc two (no loss), playful prank storybook and the games including Peter Pan's Virtual Flight. If there were any galleries on the platinum (I can't remember) then they will have also been dropped. I don't imagine the Tinkerbell movie sneak peak is carried over. Of course, expect static menus.

The Diamond edition of Peter Pan had a nice documentary 'growing up with nine old men' that thankfully Disney made available on the UK Jungle Book bluray and it is worth picking it up for that alone (Region BC locked). The US diamond also had some more deleted scenes/songs.
Peter Pan was quite a weak platinum to begin with so don't expect amazing things from the bluray.

As for Hercules, I think there is a short fluff making of piece, a Ricky Martin music video and a sing along. I think this is the same for both the UK and US. Hercules never had any DVD features to begin with. In the UK, it actually lost bonus features on its journey from DVD to blu-ray (although nothing amazing thankfully).

Hope this helps!

^Thank you for your thorough and helpful reply, it is much appreciated. :) :) :)

I'm gonna go ahead and buy Peter Pan from Amazon UK then and will buy the US version of Hercules (just because I now realize that the UK version still preserves that awful cover with Herc's huge face).

Thanks again!

As mentioned earlier both in this discussion thread and elsewhere, Disney seem to abandon their vault policy. Here in Norway they have re-released Bambi, Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast and more movies on Blu-ray just recently.

But that´s just in Europe.

I think that Disney knows their market outside of US is very different. While on US people are more aware of Disney, appreciate their animated movies and know of the releases on DVD/BD and what each mean (in terms of first time releases, re releases, availability...) that´s not the case in Europe; at least Spain. Here Disney goes well under radar. People don´t know or care as much. As such, Disney might have decided that they have a better chance of making a profit if the movies are always and easily available.

To explain myself better... In US people have a better understanding when a movie gets released for a limited time and go buy it. Here in Spain it´s not the case. Plus, they don´t care that much for the movies. Let´s just say they´ll buy a movie if it´s right there to buy. However, if that´s not the case they don´t loose any sleep over it.

They know how important and beloved Beauty and the Beast is. As such, they´ll buy the movie for sure. However, if it´s not there to get they don´t care or even wonder why it´s not available. They´ll just wait for it to be sold again. If it happens soon then fine. If takes forever then fine as well.

So, with a market like this you might as well just have the movies always available.

The vault is a very archaic system IMO. Disney knows that if someone wants to set their hands on any film from any studio, they can go ahead and do it on Amazon third sellers or just eBay. Even if it can get a bit costly, it's still out there.

That's exactly it. The vault means very little. I've often used Amazon to get vaulted Disney films.
In the UK we have a great chain of second hand stores that always have the Disney films and they don't usually go for much more than £25 even when they've been unavailable for years.

Disney US may find people start importing from the UK if they are desperate- reading various forums, it seems like Frozen 3D was a very popular export to the US.
The world is getting smaller and if we can't get something domestically, time to go international.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios Facebook page have posted that all their 52 movies are available to own on Blu-ray and DVD and it links to the British site amazon.co.uk
https://www.facebook.com/DisneyAnimation
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10 ... =notify_me
http://www.amazon.co.uk/b?ie=UTF8&node=5444274031

The video in their post includes The Wild and not Dinosaur, that must be some sort of mistake. They did the same in Norway, gave a "classic" number to the spine of it's DVD case.

So this confirms that the vault are over and done in regards to Europe? We will not longer get any new highprofile re-releases with new bonus material and restored picture/sound? Not that Disney have seemed to care about making superior releases when it comes to bonus material in the last years...
