Why Brave ?

That thing is more cliche than the Mum making Pie and then waiting for it to cool down by the window and then somebody smells it by smell and follows the scent and then eats it, getting into trouble.

It was more cliche than the word cliche. Look up Cliche and you'll find a description of the movie Brave under it.

I think he came off better here than he did in the Gloden Globe acceptance speech. But ... yeah he was still annoying.

Oh, and did any of you guys get out of breath while waiting for Andrews to finish his long, trailing speech? He speaks like a car without brakes, and looks at his feet instead of at the audience.

I am happy for Brenda. This is the first time I've seen her and she has a lovely and pleasant face. I hope she has nice personality to match it.

Although WIR wasn't eligible for a BAFTA, John C Reilly and Sarah Silverman (who scrubs really well when she's put in a dress) did present an award.

Also, winners at our awards get away with saying some things that you couldn't at the Oscars

Mark Andrews is such a tool. He's so loud and obnoxious, plus that whole moment felt a bit awkward. Disappointed that "Paranorman" didn't win, clearly the better movie of the nominations. Usually the BAFTA's get it right.

Wreck It Ralph did win the Annie award so maybe it might win the Oscar. That way Brave gets 2 (Golden Globe and BAFTA) Then Wreck It Ralph gets 2 also (Oscar and Annie).

Wreck-It Ralph also won the Producer's Guild Award. The only time they didn't match up with the Oscar was when Happy Feet beat Cars (because the Academy was in an environmental phase that year) and The Adventures of Tintin was nominated.

With the Oscars this weekend, can I make a basic request? If Brave wins the Oscar, can we be mature about this and not throw a massive hissy fit? Because, believe it or not, it is possible to disagree with the Academy Awards in a respectable manner.

Frankly, this category is very wide open and such a year, many voters are going to vote in different ways (there are thousands upon thousands of Academy members. Believe it or not, the winners are not decided by people in the boardroom, which seems to be a common misconception). If Wreck-It Ralph wins, it's because it's the populist choice (which is what tends to win this category, anyway). If Brave wins, it's because it's the safe choice. If Frankenweenie wins, it's because of the Burton name. If ParaNorman wins, it's because strong anti-bullying and non-discrimination message resonated with voters. And if Pirates wins...I guess the voters must really love Aardman. Though Pirates is the only one with no chance of winning.

Can I second this? I've said from the minute they announced the nominees that whoever wins would be a worthy winner. Sure, Ralph is my favorite, but I genuinely enjoyed every one of the five films.

Not everyone feels this way.

I would be unsurprised to see Brave win, but it's easy to write that off considering how blatant the Pixar bias is. Still I would rather it win over WIR, which I don't think deserves it, personally. In the end, whatever wins won't affect my opinions, but it would be nice to see a deserved film receive the recognition.

Way to go Academy!

Because of this:

This year for the first time, all of the nearly 6,000 voting members of the Academy have been sent DVD screeners of the nominees for Best Animated Short Film and Best Live-Action Short Film, five in each category. Previously, Academy members wishing to cast a ballot in these categories were expected to view the shorts at special theatrical presentations where attendance was strictly noted, something not required for most of the feature film categories.

We get this:

He had not seen any of the films, but had heard good things about Paperman so he voted for it.
