Alan Menken is working on a new stage musical adaptation of "A Bronx Tale" with Glenn Slater as the lyricist (although oddly Chazz Palminteri is credited as the lyricist on the casting notice).
I never tire of hearing behind the scenes information for Mermaid; its been wonderful the 25th Anniversary has been made so prominent in the media….I do believe it was a big mis-step to not have released it on Blu this year.
The only person seemingly missing from all the media soundbites is Jodi for some reason ?
Hard to believe they wanted to get somebody else for Beauty and the Beast... More examples of why executives are mostly stupid.
On a sidenote, that line about hand-painted vs. cel animation makes me feel a little less insane for thinking the movies before the change in the '90s looked a bit nicer.

Alan Menken and Glenn Slater are writing the songs for Seth Rogen's R-rated CG-animated feature titled Sausage Party which will be released on August 12, 2016.
I'm happy for him. A composer of his caliber will always be able to find work if he wants it, whether or not the new people in charge at Disney like him. I've liked what he's done with Galavant for the most part, so I wouldn't mind more of irreverent Menken. I wonder if it's fresh for him after doing animated films for so long, which are restraining in some ways.
And, while I wouldn't say he's a great actor or that I've liked his movies, I actually don't mind Seth Rogen. He's likable at least. The overall cast looks to be non-singers though...?

I was going to say that it's was a huge departure, which is it. But let's not forget that he made the music for "Hunchback".
I'm not a fan of "Mrs Doubtfire", but I can't see it as a musical. It's not that I completely dismiss the idea, but I have hard time to see it as a musical, with or without Williams.
