Poor Tom Hanks. I can't believe Disney had the gall to reprimand him. I guess now he won't be the one spilling the beans about Toy Story 5.
Tom Hanks was reprimanded by Disney bosses for confirming their plans to release a new “Toy Story” movie. The actor reveals he received a stern phone call from Disney’s legal team who scolded him for spilling the secret.

“We are working on ‘Toy Story 4’ right now,” he tells U.K. talk show host Graham Norton. “A while ago someone stuck a microphone in my face and asked if there was going to be a new film and I said yes and I then got a call from the Disney lawyers who said I couldn’t say anything about the new film because it affects the Disney stock market price. I said, ‘Hey, I’m sorry but let me point out, I am Woody, pal!'”

This isn't surprising when Disney scolded Idina for doing the same thing to Frozen 2. Will Disney attack John C. Reilly for leaking WIR 2 as well?

Idina never admitted to that though.

It is annoying when disney (or any company) keeps things like that a secret just because of stock prices, but on the other hand, Tom should know better too.

Well, both he (and the other actors, for that matter) should've known better. While their annoyance for being scolded is understandable, one shouldn't really leak information that's supposed to be a secret. Though on the other hand, it's also just an honest mistake.
Why is this even a movie in the first place? Why ruin a perfect ending for a story that can easily be a 90-minute TV movie?
Agreed. Though I haven't ranted that much about the upcoming film, the storyline is at least more suitable for a TV movie or something.

It was an honest mistake. It's not like he went out of his way to do it. He was just caught off guard in an interview where he was asked point blank about it. I doubt it even crossed his mind that it was such a big secret.

In any case, the problem is not that he was scolded but how that was done. Lasseter or Iger could have called him up and in a friendly way say something along these lines: "Tom, we'd really appreciate it if you could be more careful of what you say in the future because it can get us in trouble". But, no. They had Disney's lawyers call him who tried to intimidate him and talked to him in a condescending and rude manner. That's what bothered Tom Hanks, in my opinion. Here's the footage in question where he talks about the incident.

Pixar's honchos talk about Toy Story 4.
Q: Pixar has described Toy Story 4 as a romantic comedy. Is it more of an adult story than the previous movies?

Ed Catmull: In the case of Toy Story, we had basically the perfect trilogy. So in this case it's not like, "OK, you can go on to the next step." We really wrapped that one up. At this point, you've got to go in a very different direction. This is a different kind of exploration.
Source: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/d ... ood-840292
John Lasseter: “Myself and the creative leadership of Toy Story – Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Lee Unkrich – got together after Toy Story 3 and we made a promise to each other that we would not make another Toy Story unless we came up with an idea that was as good as or better than any of the other three movies and was really different. Andrew and I were talking one day and we came up with a nugget of an idea and thought it could be really cool. Then we started developing it quietly. We didn’t tell anybody. Nobody at Pixar, nobody at Disney, because we didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up…”

Q: After endless rumours, Toy Story 4 is on the way. Can you tell us a bit about that?

Jim Morris: We were so happy with Toy Story 1, 2 and 3 as a trilogy, we thought: don't touch it. Walk away. And John Lassiter, Andrew Stanton and the creative leaders of the company agreed - we made a pinky swear (he refers to an American kiddies' secrecy pact done with the 'pinky,' or little finger) - that they wouldn't touch it unless they had an idea that they all just loved and believed in it so much that they wanted to do it.

Andrew primarily came up with the story and then flushed it out with John. It's in the same world, with the same characters, but it's not really an extension . . . I just call it a new chapter. That was the Andy story. Andy's gone. And this new chapter is a love story, and it's a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. It's kind of their next chapter now that Andy's gone. You know, what do the toys do when their original owner's gone away? How do they continue on? And it's very sweet and emotional, and it's a little bit different...

Lasseter's quote.... :mischief: :-" Anyway. I'm glad they're going in an entirely different direction. That way if TS4 isn't too good, at the end of the day TS1-3 can still stand together as a trilogy. Besides, there wasn't anything left to wring out of the conflict of kids growing up and leaving the toys behind.

I might be more okay with this than normal because I like Bo Peep/Annie Potts, and I'm looking forward to seeing the character again.

Yeah, I'm fine with this too, for the most part. I'm just hoping they don't go with Toy Story 4 as the title, and instead title it in a similar manner to the TV specials. The logo has been unveiled but the release so far out, there's definitely room for change yet.

Good, The Incredibles 2 is the only up-coming PIXAR film I'm excited about.

What dead horse? You did see the critical an fan acclaim for toy story 3 didn't you? It has shown no signs of slowing down in that regard. Yes, we all expected and hoped the last one would be the last one, but its not dead until they make a subpar toy story movie.

Anyway, I'm relieved they will be taking another year to work on this. By all means, take as long as you need pixar. And its great we get the incredibles sequel a year sooner.

What is happening, though, is Toy Story 4, a franchise reboot that Docter is hoping won’t retread territory from the original trilogy, but will offer a thoroughly new take on the tale of Woody, Buzz, and friends that audiences haven’t seen yet. Pixar just announced it had movied The Incredibles 2 to 2018, thus pushing Toy Story 4 back to 2019; Docter, who is only helping develop the film’s story, assures that everything is going well and, as it were, perfectly shiny.

“It’s hard, because as we get in there, we realize you don’t want this to just be another regurgitation of something we’ve seen,” he updates. “We’ve really plumbed the depths of these characters with Woody and Buzz, so to find something new that hasn’t been done, I feel like we’re onto it now. But it’s taken some real deep investigative work.”

At EW’s last check-in with Pixar chief John Lasseter, the film was said to focus on the relationship between Woody and Bo Peep, who was absent in Toy Story 3. Docter confirms that the rom-com aspect is still very much alive.

“The last I saw, those were still elements that they’re playing with,” he says of the script, currently being penned by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. “Again, it brings it to something that you haven’t seen before, which I think is what people want. On the one hand, you like the familiarity, you like these characters, you want to see them again — but if it was the same movie or it felt like, ‘Eh, it was a little bit like Toy Story 2,’ then we’re kind of sunk.”

Yep, it sounds like they're desperately struggling to make this even remotely worthwhile.

Just toss it in the garbage where it belongs

I am having trouble understanding. I thought when the project was first announced, they said that it was being made specifically because it was a new original story they had come up with that they had to tell with these characters. So why are they struggling to make it different from the other films? Just cancel it and leave the trilogy alone.

To this day I think toy story 3 is a shameless copy of it's far superior predecessor Toy Story 2...it lacks the heart warming song and it adds zero to none character development. Enter hatefull comments now
