Try working out a new and unique format to the Segment Galleries (like having all the video featurettes for the segments in Section One, then having Story Reels and Still Galleries make up Section Two, and Audio and Other Extras in Section Three), but if you're still unhappy with it later on, you can use my old one (as I've changed it, theming it more to my (Film Title) In Progress: Behind the Scenes of Animation Archives).

Okay, I'll try that. I will do the still galleries first and the media galleries last.

Here's an improved version of my Fantasia Supreme Masterpiece Edition DVD (AKA the 70th Anniversary Edition to come out in 2010), with as few things copied from Escapay as possible!

Here's what the cover should look like (click here): http://img215.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... dvdsf1.jpg

Disc One: Fantasia - Feature Film and Bonus Materials
Technical Specs:
Digitally Restored and Remastered 1.33:1 Original Academy Ratio
THX-Certified with Optimizer tests
5.1 DTS-ES (English)
5.1 Dolby Digital Disney Enhanced Home Theatre Mix (English)
5.0 Dolby Digital Original Fantasound (English)
2.0 Dolby Surround (English Commentaries)
Subtitles (English, French, Spanish, English Commentaries)
Closed-Captioned for the Hearing Impaired (English)
Full-Motion Interactive 16:9 Menus
18 Chapter Stops (Main feature only)

Main Feature: (125 minutes)
- Fantasia: The Disney classic as was originally intended to be seen: the original version from more than 65 years ago, digitally restored to its original brilliance and placed onto DVD with the highest transfer possible and featuring the most superb data rate available out there.
*NOTE: This version, in keeping true to editions of the film from the 1940 roadshow exhibition through 1963, includes the uncensored segments of "The Pastoral Symphony" and the original narrations by Deems Taylor. AND the title card will appear twice, once at the beginning (seen on all non-1940 editions and 1991 VHS releases) and once midway through during the intermission and there will be the end credits at the end (seen only on the 50th anniversary release and '91 VHS), which means you will see the orchestra leaving TWICE. It will then end with a "The End – A Walt Disney Production" card.

Backstage Disney:
- Audio Commentary: 2000 commentary with Roy E. Disney, James Levine, John Canemaker and Scott MacQueen
- Archival Audio Interviews: Hosted by John Canemaker with Walt Disney
- Disney Time Capsule: 1940: A look at the year the film was released, talking about not only Disney but American culture in general. This is the exact same time capsule as seen on my Pinocchio DVD idea.

Disc Two: Fantasia - Feature Film and Bonus Materials
Technical Specs:
Digitally Restored and Remastered 1.33:1 Original Academy Ratio
THX-Certified with Optimizer tests
5.1 Dolby Digital (English, 1982 Re-Orchestrated Digital Stereo Track)
4.0 Dolby Digital Modified Fantasound (English, 1956 General Release Track)
2.0 Dolby Digital Original Stereo (English, 1942 General Release Track)
2.0 Dolby Surround (English Commentaries)
Subtitles (English, French, Spanish, English Commentaries)
Closed-Captioned for the Hearing Impaired (English)
Full-Motion Interactive 16:9 Menus
18 Chapter Stops

Main Feature: (84 minutes/115 minutes)
- Fantasia: The 84-minute General Release Version of the Disney classic as distributed in 1942, along with the 115-minute General Release Version as distributed between 1946 and 1990, both digitally restored to their original brilliance and placed onto DVD with the highest transfer possible and featuring the most superb data rate available out there.
*NOTE: These versions, in keeping true to later re-issues from 1969 onwards, includes the censored segments of "The Pastoral Symphony".

Backstage Disney:
- Audio Commentary (115-minute version): Roy E. Disney, Disney animators Eric Goldberg, Andreas Deja and Glen Keane, film critics Leonard Maltin and John Canemaker and famed Disney songwriter Richard Sherman
- Alternate 1956 Modified Fantasound Track: The 1956 General Release version shown in SuperScope. This version of the film has been enhanced for widescreen TVs.
- Alternate 1982 Score Track: The 1982 General Release version whose soundtrack is composed by Irwin Kostal

Disc Three: Fantasia - Feature Film and Bonus Materials
Technical Specs:
Digitally Restored and Remastered 1.33:1 Original Academy Ratio
THX-Certified with Optimizer tests
5.0 Dolby Digital Original Fantasound (English)
Subtitles (English, French, Spanish)
Closed-Captioned for the Hearing Impaired (English)
Full-Motion Interactive 16:9 Menus
18 Chapter Stops

--Angle Three: Pencil Tests
--Angle Four: Live-Action References
--Angle Five: Rough Animation
--Angle Six: All of the above (a la one of the bonuses on Pluto 2 of the WDT)

Backstage Disney:
- The Art of Fantasia's Animation: Text Commentary Track: Another way to view the film, with various facts about the animation's art displayed on the screen as the movie progresses

Disc Four: Fantasia Uncovered - Bonus Materials, Disc One
Technical Specs:
1.33:1 Academy Ratio - Original Aspect Ratio (Vintage Materials)
1.77:1 Anamorphic Widescreen - Original Aspect Ratio (New Materials)
2.0 Dolby Surround (English)
Subtitles (English, French, Spanish)
Closed-Captioning for the Hearing Impaired (English)
Full-Motion Interactive 16:9 Menus

2.0 Dolby Surround (English)
Subtitles (English, French, Spanish)
Closed-Captioning for the Hearing Impaired (English)
Full-Motion Interactive 16:9 Menus

Main Features:
- A Labor of Love: A featurette at how the various sequences of the film were approached by given various attentions to detail depending on the sequence, including The Nutcracker Suite's personification of the changing of the seasons and delicate designs of its characters and Dance of the Hours's character frenzy the likes of which was unusual for Disney at the time.
- The Lost Treasures of Fantasia: A documentary about the various editing over the years to Fantasia and why they happened. Includes abandoned segments, the film's various truncations, an unsettled reform that the film deserved and even Walt explaining that the film was a mistake (based on a cynical article by Jim Hill: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... 1/305.aspx).
- Disney Legend: Bill Garity: A featurette on a jack-of-all-trades studio member, who masterminded the technical innovations of this landmark film, as well as Fantasound.

Full-Motion Interactive 16:9 Menus

Escapay, if you're reading this and any of this stuff sounds familiar to you, it's because either these are bonuses from the old 2000 Fantasia Anthology DVD or they're just no-brainers for inclusion on DVD (i.e., trailers, audio commetaries, galleries, etc.). This time, I tried to be as original as possible. So anything you used are only those from the old DVD release of the movie, not the one you thought up that I copied from, but the Fantasia Anthology DVD. Anything you thought up on your own are no longer truly evident. While I did reuse some of your types of bonus ideas, I tried to revise the titles and descriptions as much as possible, so as not to sound too unoriginal. For example, whereas you put:
-Epic Films: A Roadshow Engagement - new featurette about how a movie is presented in Roadshow Engagements. (20 minutes)
I put:
- Why Epic Films Go To the Roadshow: A look at how and why epic or famous films tend to be shown at roadshow engagements, with numerous examples being not only Fantasia, but also others like Gone With the Wind, Bridge On the River Kwai, Ben-Hur and The Sound of Music.
As you can see, while the wording still seem to be alike, mine tends to be more descriptive. I even tried to revise the packaging description a bit.

What do you think, guys? It's largely the same as what I had before, so please don't get mad at me for it, because this DVD idea here is mine already. My main intention was really to just revise the content to my own wording and also give a different name for the edition.

I decided to revise my current listing of animated features DVDs by rebranding it from Legacy Edition to a brand-new brand: the "Supreme Masterpiece Edition Collection". This is what I'm gonna call the edition set that takes a Platinum Edition DVD and blends it with other Disney DVD sets, like Vault Disney, Walt Disney Legacy Collection and especially Walt Disney Treasures. What do you think of that?

Working on new Legacy Editions only when they have the time but not really devoting more than an hour or two a week to looking up old and creating new materials and typing it all in longform with descriptions and runtimes?

Not to mention watching the DVDs in order to see if what seems like a good featurette on the current disc should be carried over to the wishful-thinking disc, as well as double-checking to make sure runtimes fit within the disc, that everything is worded and coded properly, and if inspired (which I haven't been for quite awhile), making screen caps just for the hell of it...

There. That's all I needed to see. If you can't come back right away, then I understand. All I really wanted was just a response that wasn't my own, to make sure I wasn't the only still interested in this thread. If you can't create a new DVD idea, that's all right, just create a response. But if you can create a new page, that's wonderful, too.

TheSequelofDisney wrote: Yes, that might be your rule, but it's not the rule, not that there even is one. Everything on a Disney DVD does not have to be completely Disney. You don't see just a particular studios film with bonus features by that particular studio. Mix things up a bit. On the French "Peter Pan" DVD it has the silent PARAMOUNT version on it, and Paramount certainly isn't Disney. Disney DVDs are banned to just Disney. You don't want a DVD to just to have experiences of Disney, but from the world, that's why DVDs are interesting, that's why I make DVDs, because they are interesting. The bonus features don't have to be pro-Disney, otherwise that takes the fun out of everything. More things from DIFFERENT cultures, studios, religions, everything makes it a worthwhile set. So Disney DVDs aren't limited to just Disney. Did you see my "Sleeping Beauty" set? There were things on there that weren't Disney at all. So there really isn't room for you to complain.
Well, it should be the rule, because I'VE never seen any bonus features on Disney movies that weren't pro-Disney. I want to make them look like real DVDs. That's why the Snow White, Pinocchio and Dumbo DVDs all have pro-Disney stuff. If you go with non-Disney features on a Disney set, you're going to run into all kinds of legal issues the likes of which would be like between Disney and Spielberg over Roger Rabbit. You spoke of cultures, studios, religions and all that, but what about contract negotiations? You could mix up the cultures and religions, but not the studios, unless you negotiated a contract or something. Be grateful few attorneys look at this forum or you'd be the one in hot water. Look, I'm just saying that pro-Disney stuff only is the practical way to go. Plus, the idea of WB toons on a Disney DVD makes my stomach turn. Whoever heard of WB toons on a Disney DVD?
And besides the silent Peter Pan movie by Paramount is technically in the public domain, so I don't think that should count.

Technically not true, as Kino Video holds the distribution rights for 1924's Peter Pan, and has a nice DVD that's been out for almost 8 years, and aside from Disney's French 2-disc CE, the film has not seen any other release by another DVD company (like popular PD-releasing companies Madacy, Platinum, Delta, Alpha Video, GoodTimes, etc.)

Anyways, to contribute a bit to the "Ultimate DVD" aspect of the thread...a little teaser of some more fake-and-wishful-thinking-DVD-material I work on when not doing other things...(and a nice gift for BDF, as I'm sure this is his favorite DAC...)

Incomplete and Shorform Specs for Pinocchio: Five-Disc Legacy Edition, which I started randomly doing at...3 am a few nights ago while reading up on its 1993 laserdisc set and did minimal research on. I didn't change a thing in this copy/paste, so it's got some random notes in there that I never got around to fixing yet along with some standard runtimes I threw in and will likely change later on when I figure out how to properly arrange each disc...

It was always in the cards, just not the near future or in any immediate plans and research until recently.

It's part of Volume Six: Action & Excitement in my fictional (and ever changing number of discs per title) Legacy Series Collection...

Volume Six: Action and Excitement
-Pinocchio
-101 Dalmatians
-The Rescuers
-The Great Mouse Detective
-The Rescuers Down Under
-Atlantis: The Lost Empire
-Treasure Planet
-Walt Disney's Legacy, Volume Six: To Live for Danger - Exclusive Bonus Disc and Documentary

While I was compiling a list of Disney laserdisc supplements (scouring several Disney and laserdisc sites that had reviews, cover scans, etc.), I was a bit intrigued by the Pinocchio set, and originally started writing up a speculative Platinum Edition for it, since much of the supplements for PE's like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella were from their Deluxe CAV Laserdisc sets. But a 47-minute doc (that according to dvdlaser's review is more promotional than informative?), a storyboard-to-film comparison, gallery of stills, and trailers didn't seem like much for a Platinum, so I figured I might as well turn that disappointing-looking Platinum specs into a Legacy Series...

--Angle One: Theatrical (AKA Finished Product)

- Wish Upon a Star: The Making of Pinocchio: New 90-minute documentary about the making of Pinocchio, hosted by Robby Benson, with various new and vintage interviews from Walt Disney, original animators, voice actors, and film critics/historians. It will vastly improve on the making-of featurette found on the laserdisc.

Backstage Disney:
- The Story Behind the Story: A look at how Walt Disney and his team made the famous book, by Carlo Collodi, into a Disney movie. Hosted by Robby Benson.
- The Pinocchio That Almost Was: New featurette covering the 1930s concepts and designs for the film, many of which came straight from the book, before Walt halted production halfway through to rethink the characters.
- Mel Blanc: A look at the famous cartoon voice actor who was originally intended to voice Foulfellow's feline sidekick Gideon, complete with sample snippets of dialogue in the context of the film.

What do you think, guys? It's largely the same as what I had before, so please don't get mad at me for it, because this DVD idea here is mine already.

BTW, should the video quality of the film be more like the 2003 SE DVD, the '93 VHS (reused for the only stateside DVD thus far) or should it be more the quality of the theatrical trailer? Click here to view the various release video qualities to see what I mean (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... =pinocchio) and then tell me what you think.

I don't know what's stranger:

1. The fact I totally forgot Jesse McCartney did a decent cover of "When You Wish Upon A Star" even though I quite enjoy it in moderation... :P ;)

OR

2. The fact that in all the pages of this thread, there was never any mention of a featurette about Gustaf Tenggren, deleted materials with Mel Blanc, or any passing reference to the laserdisc documentary until I by chance put it in my set, and now they're suddenly (and I guess finally?) making an appearance in the set of someone who's a bigger fan of Pinocchio than I am. :P

It just boggles the mind!

And I'd probably go for the '93 VHS/'99 DVD color palette, but the sharpness and clean image of the 2003 restoration. If that makes sense. The 2003 restoration just looks a bit too cold and not quite as lived-in or warm as the others.

1 and 2) How about all of the above?

As for the video palette, the 2003 one would make complete sense, if not for the coldness. If only there was a way to combine the 90s quality with 2003 quality somehow. I guess we could make the video quality more like the original 1940 trailer, albeit not quite so faded. The new quality I'm thinking of would combine the sharp colors and more evident detail of the 2003 edition with the warmth of the 90s edition, if that's at all possible and make it more like the quality of the 1940 trailer, because I kinda like that.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/ ... ailer5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a><BR>

SO like I said, my take on the prints for my DVD won't be so faded. The prints will be sharper than the trailer here, but not TOO sharp.

The Supreme Masterpiece Edition, which is the new name of my proposed DVD release edition type, is actually a combination of many of the better release types. The Supreme Masterpiece Edition DVD is a combination of the following better release types:

1) Platinum Edition
2) Walt Disney Treasure
3) Vault Disney
4) Legacy Collection
5) Collector's Edition (to a lesser extent)

All this adds up to the Supreme Masterpiece Edition. They will also be housed in tins, much like the Walt Disney Treasures, with an image of the poster of the featured movie being displayed on the tin.

BTW, anyone want to hazard a guess how much these sets would cost? I personally would say an absolute MINIMUM of $50!
