Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End Poster, News, etc

I expected her to turn into a Goddess. For her to look stunning, and then turn into something. Be it water, air, a seagull. Something that seemed mundane. They might figure it didn't work and she isn't helping or hindering and then the storm comes. The giant-isim was IMO, a bit lame.

Re: At World's End
I loved the film, best one next to DMC, especialy the climax, had me so excited and on the edge of my seat....Wish they had more ride reference, I was happy with the soundbytes from the ride when the crews enter Davy's Locker. Out of respect for Norrignton, he should've stayed alive and joined Davy's crew (would've been a twisting plot twist). I was shocked by the ending of the climax, so unxpected yet quite amusing. I would love to see Pirates Of The Carribean: Fountain Of Youth.

Exactly, I completely agree with you, Siren. You expressed it much better than I did. I too was expecting her to transform into a goddess instead of just getting larger. As I said earlier, it just reminded me too much of Ursula, a been there, done that kind of feeling. I stand by my it was lame comment. But that is just my opinion, and I don't expect many to agree with it.Siren wrote:

As for another Pirates movie, I don't necessarily want another one. But I wouldn't mind if they did make one. If they do make another one, I'll probably go see it.

There's no point in taunting one another and no reason why such fighting -- especially these arguments utterly irrelevant to At World's End -- belongs in this thread. It should be mere common sense that we ought not to attack our fellow forum members. Neither I nor the fellow moderators should have to say anything on this matter, because nothing we say is ever new.
Respect your fellow forum members. All of them. Even the ones you can't stand. If someone crosses a line, feel free to e-mail any one of UD's moderators with relevant links, and we'll get to the matter. If you're unhappy with our decision or feel like you can never agree to disagree with a UD member, you're welcome to ignore the offending forum member. As in life, there is no "ignore" feature on this forum, so it's up to your own wits to carry that out.
Negativity is so contagious online and we've had way more of it here in recent months than ever before. Please be big enough to not concede to it and violate UD's basic no-personal-attacks policy. I'll be very happy if every post in this thread from here on deals with Pirates and avoids bickering and character attacks against forum members.

Well, I do apologize for supposedly "hijacking" this thread as those weren't my intentions(in fact, I considered making it into a PM) and do apologize to those who took time to read the petty attacks and absorbed the mean-spirited atmosphere, but I still stand by what I say and am not apologizing for expressing my opinions on the subject matter. And I agree, it's time to move on and talk about Pirates(which is why I put some of my thoughts in my most recent post before this post).
As far a Calypso goes I was a tad disappointed only because I heard Jerry Bruckheimer praising ILM in an interview for "their work on Barbossa in the first movie, Davy Jones in the second movie, and Tia Dalma in the third movie" implying she was going to be amazing SFX wise, but I didn't have to much problem with her "growing"(although it does remind me of a trailer for a 50's horror film played at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Disney-MGM-Studios).

Well, there's always Blackbeard's Ghost.akhenaten wrote:and what more villain can be fought? wasnt davy jones like the ultimate evil on sea?
Yeah, it was just silly. It didn't fit the movies at all. I wanted her to be able to take away the discolored teeth and matted hair and look beautiful, like she does in real life. I would have loved to see her turn into a beautiful woman, maybe smile coyly, and then turn into sea spray or foam (ala the original Little Mermaid story) and then attack them with all her power. Like you said, too Ursula, been there, done that. The movies so far have been pretty original, they weren't with the Honey I Blew Up the Witch segment.CJ wrote:Exactly, I completely agree with you, Siren. You expressed it much better than I did. They could always find out what happened to the Mary Celesteakhenaten wrote:as for me, i dunno if i'd want another pirates movie, i for one miss them already. the whole pirate universe is such an escapism for me. but as wooden as will turner is, i'd still love to have him and elizabeth be part of the adventure. and what more villain can be fought? wasnt davy jones like the ultimate evil on sea?
Or Pirates of the Caribbean Take Titanic
Mary Celeste was a ship that I believe was off the coast of Africa when it was found. Its known as a ghost ship, because when they found it, everything, except one barrel of alcohol (not the drinking kind) being broken, was perfect. It was like the ship's passengers and crew were getting ready to eat and then oblivion. Everything was in order, but not a soul was on board. The ship had sailed miles without anyone on board.akhenaten wrote:what's a mary celeste? btw what period of time was pirates set in?
At this point, most people believe either...the salvagers of the ship killed them and then took the ship for the money. Or as a safety precaution, everyone on ship got into a dingy and the rope snapped or came undone and they floated away.

You know, turning your anger at him onto me isn't helping you.MadonnasManOne wrote:Here's the deal. You don't know what you are talking about. I have been told, by a moderator, that they will let me deal with the situation, as long as I am not personally attacking Timon/Pumbaa fan. I am not attacking him. I am telling him that he needs to leave me alone. I have told him this, before. He is the one that is going to have to stop it, because he is the one who continues it. I have left him alone, and he STILL insists on insulting me, trying to tell me what I should and shouldn't do. So, it is up to him to stop this.PapiBear wrote: OK, it takes two to tango, and you're dancing your part just as much as TPF is. If you're tired of dancing this dance, just stop it. Don't wait for him to quit leading you. Stop it all on your own. And spouting off at him like some petulant schoolboy only makes you look like someone who needs some quality time in the corner. Chill, already. Just chill. So what if TPF has a hair up his butt about you copying and pasting? That's his neurosis to deal with. You don't need to exacerbate the situation by going off on him.
You need to just stay out of it, especially when you have no idea about the situation.
I don't see him continuing it, I see you continuing it. You're responsible for what you do. Don't expect him to make the first move. Be the better man by making the first move yourself. If you wait for him, you'll wait forever. If you're open to an endless war, that may be fine, but you'll have to do that on your time and in your space, not everyone else's.
You can't have an argument in a public forum and have an expectation of privacy at the same time. If you're going to take what you're claiming to be a private conflict public, then you should be prepared to deal with the effects of that, such as having people unrelated to the issue chastise you for what you've said and tell you to take the bickering elsewhere (hey, it happens to me too, so it's not like I'm just talking out my neck here).
I don't need to stay out of it, you need to not bring it out in the open. Take it private, or take it to a mod to have the beef squashed. But make sure the beef is squashed. Allowing it to continue on simply because the other guy continues to make moves against you only shows the rest of us that he's got you wrapped around his finger.
I don't need to know the situation. I don't really CARE what the situation is. I know that the situation is annoying to read about in the midst of the thread topic - that much I know. So, pretty please, with sugar on top, take it to PM, because if I can't do it, you can't do it, and I sure as hell am not interested in reading this shit on here.
Now, I would have said this to you in a PM myself, but unfortunately someone thought it was a good idea to prevent me from sending PMs to anyone, so I don't have that capability at this time.
Anyway, before you start typing out your kneejerk response, STOP AND THINK ABOUT WHAT I'M SAYING HERE. Just marinate on it a minute, let it sink in. Breathe in and out deeply a few times. And then reply if you see fit.

I thought Tia Dalma/Calypso already looked like a Goddess. Growing into her full size was simply par for the course, IMHO. But I admit, I actually was disappointed to see her go. I think she's a fascinating character and I loved, absolutely LOVED Naomie Harris' performance.Siren wrote:I expected her to turn into a Goddess. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I thought her hair was just fine. Dreadlocks are an ancient and beautiful hairstyle that a lot of people still wear today. I found the discolored teeth oddly attractive, too, and it was accurate for the time period and place. Some of her teeth are gold, as well, which is also accurate for the time and place. I also liked her facial tattoos. I thought she was beautiful just as she was. As for "real life," whose real life are you talking about, the character's, or Naomie Harris'?Siren wrote:Yeah, it was just silly. It didn't fit the movies at all. Yeah, I know the one. I found him silly in a nice way. Had me laughing a few times during the previous movie.CJ wrote:Back on topic: My favorite Flying Dutchmen crew member was the one with the head like a Hermit Crab. I don't know his name, but does anyone else know it?
As for Tia Dalma, I agree that she was beautiful just the way she was. She had this aura to her. It was really magical in my opinion. The actress' performance was pretty amazing too, and I'm not sure it would've been quite as effective without all the make-up and whatnot on her. Moreover, she DID turn into more than just-herself-only-larger near the end. The whole climax was basically her doing so I felt pretty satisfied.

I know dreadlocks are an ancient hairstyle. And they looked good on her for the character, I'm just not a huge fan of dreadlocks most of the time. But I would have loved to see the imagery from a Goddess form. For her to shed her earthly body and be who she truly is. Apparently who she truely is the same look, but much taller. That I found to be unimaginative. I didn't find the teeth attractive at all. I liked the tattoos. And I was talking about Naomie Harris, allowing her to show her true beauty, as in, less make-up and wigs.

Back a page or so I asked if anyone went to see PotC AWE at a certified THX theater and got to see the "Special" THX logo opening for the movie. It is very funny and features Capt. Jack Sparrow and the monkey. What a great addition to an already great movie. I have seen it three times already and am ready to go see it a couple more times.
Did anyone else see this THX opening besides me?
