I am glad they kept the shark as we saw in the TV spot. Those new posters are cool and gorgeous.

I forgot to thank you, D82, for the Melissa McCarthy videos. I loved them.

Divinity, I said I wasn't going to talk to you about the costume again if you disagreed with my explanation of its likeness to the animated design! Now we are not talking about the costume, but about arguments/debates. Don't you debate with others about things here? Am I not allowed to just because we both tried to harm each other in the past before we got on more friendly terms like I would like to keep now?

Her tail looks like a mop slash propeller in the second.

The third--I don't know why so many of Disney's posters look Star Wars-esque these days. Frozen II's poster was the same way. Ursula's clipart actually looked better than that before... But, yeah, that first poster of the shipwreck is probably the best poster they've had for this, imo. I know the one of her on the rock was okay because it almost looked like a stop-motion animated image rather than live-action, but the sky was all murky, the mood was pretty depressing, and you could tell they zoomed out to make the tail not look so bad. Probably the only one that was decent aside from those two was the clipart-y one with Ariel sitting on the rock from the "Under the Sea" scene (Ursula's clipart was better there).

I don't mind that, Duster. But most of our debates lately have been more of the "Well, I do!" / "Well, I don't!" variety. I think it's best to accept we're not going to see eye to eye here.

Wow, what a cool poster with Ursula's tentacles trying to capture Ariel going freely to the world she loves!

Ok, Divinity. I guess, from now on, I should only present my opinions, and back up my opinions with explanations if I want to, and not involve you specifically.

So, for a start, here is my comparison of the color, neckline, corset, and puffy sleeves between the animated and live-action blue dress for Ariel. I think only the corset looks the most different becuase it's not covering her breasts and it's not black. And this is for everyone, not aimed at anyone in particular, I am just backing up my own opinion! If it's not something you want to debate or talk about at all, feel free to ignore! Anyway, these screencaps show to me why I think the designs are similar.:

Facial hair Eric was a bold choice and I don’t know how I feel about it yet. I guess it makes sense because he’s a sailor. I think the actor’s very cute!

The photo realism works for Flotsam and Jetsam because it makes them look scarier haha!

The soundtrack tracklist has been revealed too by Apple Music. Well, at least the songs. We already suspected "Les Poissons" wouldn't be in the film, but apparently, "Daughters of Triton" is not in it either. The tracklist also reveals Eric will sing in "Fathoms Below".

Also, "Poor Unfortunate Souls" was screened at CinemaCon. Here's a description of the scene:

The footage shown to CinemaCon attendees primarily consisted of Melissa McCarthy's Ursula, particularly her performance of the classic song "Poor Unfortunate Souls." It opens with Halle Bailey's Ariel arriving in Ursula's cave, which is illuminated by the villainess's neon tentacles. McCarthy looks and sounds perfect for the character. The same can be said about Bailey's Ariel, as the underwater physics of her hair and body look surprisingly well-made.

The beginning of the "Poor Unfortunate Souls" scene looks similar to that of the original film's number, but it does introduce one key difference. During the song, Ariel appears to second-guess Ursula's offer, saying, "No, this is wrong, I can't do this." However, as she's swimming out of the cave, Ursula makes a jab at Ariel's father, hinting that the relationship between Ariel and King Triton will have a bigger focal point in this film. That could lead to some interesting character dynamics, especially since Ursula already knows about her seemingly complicated relationship.

Unfortunately, the film's visuals are looking like a bit of a mixed bag at the moment. The actual transformation scene that involves Ariel losing her voice and tail was described by Ben as "CGI nonsense," amounting to bright colors flashing on the screen. Sebastian and Flounder are also realistically rendered, but maybe a tad too realistic. Overall, there's both things to love about this new footage and things to not love as much, but that's for you to decide when "The Little Mermaid" arrives in theaters on May 26, 2023.

Well, I`m really digging the new posters! Especially the IMAX and 4XD posters, who are absolutely stunning. As for the new footage, I like them, with the excpetion of Flounder. Who looks too uncanny to blend with the rest of the flow of the picture. But it`s remarkable how Scuttle is obviously going to interact with Ariel underwater in his introductory scene.
As for the parts of the dancing, it`s obvious that the Kingdom has a Caribbean flavour to it. More so than it`s predecessor, which wasn`t particularly specific about it`s setting. But now that there have been so much merchandise leaked, it`s remarkable how there haven`t been released any link to a Art/Making of-Book yet. Or any magazine dedicated to this movie, as there were with it`s previous Renaissance remakes. Perhaps there won`t be released any Art of-book of this remake?

I also like the poster with Ursula's tentacles rising below. The tail doesn't look as bad there since it's a drawing that made it more slender than it is in the actual film shots.

Ursula is the only character poster I liked, tbh. I'm so glad F&J weren't electric eels, they look very nice.

It's a shame they weren't able to get Harry Styles. He doesn't look like Eric either, but at least he's handsome in a different way.

I don't care that "Daughters of Triton" is cut since the sisters look so awful now. I was actually going to say that the other day when that picture of them was being discussed because I was pretty sure it had already been revealed DoT was cut, but then I felt uncertain whether it had been cut or if I was remembering wrong. In general, I hope the film is mostly land scenes since the tails look so bad all around. Which is a shame because the land scenes are the least interesting in the original film. But there you go.

"Part of Your World" before "Fathoms Below" though? So they'll be singing when Ariel finds the ship. I'm guessing the first few scenes of this film is going to suck trying to do what the original does moving up to POYW without any music.

Not surprised the visuals sound awful, they look awful. I think the only thing that we've seen between the costumes and the various scenes that actually kind of looks cinematic is the shipwreck scene. That's probably why the poster that featured a shot from it actually looked nice compared to everything else they've put out.

Agreed. Unlike Jonah Hauer-King, Harry Styles is actually handsome. Despite how he still has a boyish look to him.

Looking more closely at the Ursula poster again, I am a little disappointed at the earrings, I suppose, I always liked that they were long and dangle-y. I guess because that ugly collar is waving around in the same area, they thought long earrings would conflict or distract from that.

I forgot to mention I bought the Little Mermaid Singing Necklace that is a plastic replica of Ursula's nautilus shell necklace that glows and plays Ariel's voice. There's a link to a video of it in this thread somewhere. I love it, but it's so child sized the necklace doesn't fit around my neck! So I just hold it when I pretend to be Ursula or Vanessa lol.
