It will be the FIRST Platinum Edition on Blu-Ray, but it will most certainly be available for regular DVD too.

Ariels Prince is correct in the fact Aurora is a heroine. But only because heroine means "leading female character of a play or novel" :P

She does nothing considered heroic, Phillipe (with help) slayed the dragon, awakened Aurora (I hope he didn't need help with that one) and pretty much rid the kingdom of Maleficent.

The Faries helped kill Maleficent, saved the prince, saved the princess from death in the beginning of the movie and......baked a pretty good looking cake :P

As for Aurora, she only did her duty of going to the castle because she had no choice in the matter, and even if she went of her own free will it would be honorable at best, not heroic since she was betrothed to begin with.

I'll be picking this dvd up for sure since I don't have it yet on dvd. Bonus Features don't matter as much to me since I very rarely watch them, cover art as well doesn't matter too much since I watch the movie not the cover :P

I saw the new trailer for the DVD release and it just makes the movie look so much better than it actually is, not that I don't enjoy the movie, it's just that it makes it look so awesome. Great job on the trailer. I cannot wait til this released so I can watch it again.

You said everything I wanted too.

That trailer really makes me want to buy both DVD and Blu-Ray.

Same here. I actually own the Special Edition from 2003, but I haven't watched it in a while. Knowing that the Platinum Edition is coming out this Fall, I've been holding out on watching it so I can still be excited when I double dip for the Platinum edition.

Agree with every word, and Philip was kidnapped (usually, what happend to a REAL damsel in distress) and he didn't do anything! the fairies did everything for him! they even rescued his cap and they the one that really killed Maleficent,he just kissed her.
rs_milo_whatever-he's a guy in distress,or whatever,a male damsel in distress.
Does it really, truly matter who is or isn't the hero or damsel in distress? Honestly, this thread is about how Sleeping Beauty is coming to Disney DVD and Blu-ray Disc this October. It has nothing to do with this issue that everyone is talking about. Just deal with it. Everyone has their own opinion and they can think whatever they want to. If you want to argue, to and argue by email. Really, this isn't the place for causing fuss and it is not suitable in this thread, or on this forum. Geez, I really hate what UD is becoming nowadays.

I don't really think it's argueing. It's just debating. Nothing bad is happening. Can't we debate once in a while?

Both Aurora and Phillipe were the "damsels" and heroes in their own way. Which if you stop and think long enough is true to certain extents.
Exactly how I feel about it. :)
Now please can we at least make a new topic for this elsewhere and move on with discussion of the dvd?
I'm sorry for continuing to veer this so off topic. Anyway, back to discussion of the DVD. As I said before, I just hope that they include a new making of featurette instead of just rehashing the shorter, older one, like how they did on the Peter Pan DVD. I also hope they might include some of the original deleted songs written for the film. There's the Riddle Diddle and Go To Sleep songs on the commentary, plus original songs that they wrote that didn't include Tschiavosky's melodies, like Mirage and Sunbeams In Pocket. I'd be really interested to hear those.

If they don't include EVERY bonus feature from the pervious release(well, with the exception of that horrid music video), I will hunt down the old one and refuse to buy this one.

There was a music video? *shakes head in despair* When will Disney learn not to put music videos on the dvds. Of all the ones I've seen I haven't liked a single one, but knowing Disney it'll get put on this release as well or a whole new crappy one.

I hope the Games and Activities area isn't overloaded with those horrid Dress Games like on Enchanted Tales  Personally I'd be happy with a trivia type board game like on Lady and the Tramp I believe it was.........

Yes it was called "One Upon Another Dream" or something to that extent. Either way it had no use being there and completely destroyed the music section.

I actually don't mind "Once Upon Another Dream" obviously I prefer the original version of the song but it isn't that bad. I hope it's included on the Platinum Edition.

even if they don't put "Once Upon Another Dream" they're more than likely going to put a new video in it; its their perfect chance to introduce Hannah Montana to the Disney DVD music videos(please no), although Disney usually makes a video with a new artist who desperatedly needs the attention (aside from the "Circle of Stars" and Jonas Brothers). I don't own the previous DVD but it seemed like a release worth buying, i hope they at least just transfer the old features instead of taking some away and only adding a music video and a game.

I've split all the posts debating wether or not Aurora is a heroine into this new thread: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=22172 . From this point forward, please keep this thread on the topic of the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray release.

That is the same "original artwork" they used for the 2003 Special Edition and then it was later changed to the version that was released...

That is more than likely just a sample so they could show that Sleeping Beauty is on it's way...

I'm willing to bet that is not the artwork we see on the final product.

PS If Disney is smart they would use something more like the French release of Sleeping Beauty had... and even continue it through the whole platinum line... Beauty & The Beast, Peter Pan and others also got beautiful artwork in Europe... Let's hope they show off all of that beautiful artwork here instead of the over-used HUGE HEADS over a centered logo, with randomly placed clip art characters scattered about that they have recently been pushing.
