I think you're all forgetting that Japan's cover is actually the cover for our giftset:

Image

As you can see, the slipper is correct on ours. It seems like Japan's was the first draft of that image, and when the artist realized his mistake and redid it, Disney didn't bother to replace Japan's.

Disneykid's Building-Themed Signature

Post by Disney Duster »

Disneykid, I've been meaning to tell you, I love your new castle-themed...well, building-themed signature. It's totally awesome. I would have used a different shot for the Beast's castle without the fireworks, though.

Thanks! The building theme would've been more obvious had I been able to find a pic of Pooh's house, which would've gone inbetween the March Hare's house and Notre Dame. As for the Beast's castle, I agree with you, actually, but my DVD programs don't have screencapping capabilities. I had to get all of these pics from screencap sites, and this was the best pic of the castle I could find. The others either didn't show the whole castle, or showed it in too forboding of light.

Disneykid's Building-Themed Signature

Post by Disney Duster »

Ah, I see! You're right, it did seem like something was missing... Why don't you get a screencapping program like PowerDVD? I heard they have a 30 day trial you can keep downloading if you don't want to buy it. I'm trying to get that myself.

assorted plot notes

Post by kurtadisneyite »

Thanks to a co-worker whose sister was lead animator for the C-III stepmother, and a friend who illustrated the picture books, I can offer some other info regarding C-III:

The Aussie animators knew this was their last shot at a feature, and tried very hard to make it their best work. Production was essentially done in March '06 though cleanups and fixups lasted until June or so. Cinderella had all new model sheets created to offer as consistent look as possible, and a lot of live action footage was shot for her animation reference. The stepmother, on the other hand, was often animated "on the fly" (a choice of her animator, who didn't want to be restricted by live action).
There's more about the C-III production at the awn.com web site.

It's interesting to see the Australians copy some of the scenes from the original while offering unique changes in color, character styling and animation. One example is the locked tower sequence - in the original, Cindy's hand on the handle is dead still, while in C-III, the Australian animators flexed her fingers.

There are quite a few C-III plot twists to enjoy: per other posters requests, I will relocate that info in the spoiler thread.

The picture books were illustrated partly in the USA, and partly in Paris by a Disney division there. Random House is publishing the smaller book now, but a larger book, which will show the diabolical pumpkin coach and many other illustrations, should be out very soon. I do not know who did the coloring book "A Perfect Fit", but the scenes were inspired by, not copies of, the C-III movie.

Sadly, both the Aussie and Paris units contributing to the C-III project have been closed. The Australian studio contents were auctioned off last summer and the animators have moved on to other things. IMHO, it was shortsighted to close Australia, as they were getting better with each feature.

Some other info: The mouse "Jack" is really "Jacque", and the original Cindy (Ilene Woods) pronounces it as "Jacque" (French, as the original Cindy was based on the Perrault version. And Disney, $4 million in the hole when Cinderella original was being made, shot all its human interactions as live action for animation reference to make sure the film would "work". In fact, Cinderella was the most "live action" based Disney animation ever made (something the animators complained about but perhaps what has made it endure better than some other Disney movies). Cindy herself was a combination of Helene Stanley, her model, and Ilene Woods, her voice (on the 2 or 3-disk Cinderella Platinum versions, in the documentary, you'll hear how Ilene's parents actually saw their daughtor's mannerisms reflected within Cindy's animation.).

Cinderella III: A Twist In Time

Post by Disney Duster »

kurtadisneyite, that was good information. I wish you had put the spoiling plot twist information in the Cinderella III Spoiler Thread, but you are a new member so that's understandable. Still, if you want to edit your post, move the spoiling info to the other thread, and tell everyone to check it out, that would help make this thread safer for people who are afraid of accidently catching a spoiler...especially big ones! I know I have put a few spoilers in here, but they were small, and you just had a really long post so...do what you feel like. Your contributions are really appreciated, though, and you've made me happy with your info on the animation (though, I wish Tremaine had some live-action reference maybe...).

Anyway, I've come in here more than just to complain about spoilers, I promise. I just wanted to say that it seems The Little Mermaid is more popular than Cinderella, but a lot of Little Mermaid fans are also Cinderella fans, so I'm happy that Cinderella will stay in large popularity as long as she has Little Mermaid fans to help her out. I'm grateful for you Ariel/Cinderella fans.

And the proof of this fandom can be found at Little Ariel Forums. Ariel7angel gave a link in her post to Disney Movie Rewards, where if you are a member, or you become a member, after you log in you can click on Member Benefits and one of the benefits is a clip from Cinderella III: A Twist In Time! I'm pretty sure its a new, never before seen clip, and probably shows the scene as it will be in the film (not with parts cut out like the sneak peek).

I'm not a member and don't want to become a member, and I also don't want any surprises spoiled for me, so I can't tell you anymore. But feel free to see it and talk about it in here. Just warn before spoiling, put spoilers in white, or talk about it in the other thread. You know the drill.

Disney Duster have you seen Cinderellabration? (either the Tokyo Disneyland or Walt Disney World version). If so, do you think there will be a coronation scene in the movie inspired by this show (or at least the anniversary party inspired by this)?

I've re-edited my post, Disney Duster, and spoiler info's moved. Glad the other info was of interest to you!
FYI I had the pleasure of interviewing Marc Davis and the other Original Cindy animators in the 80's; none were happy with the direction animation was going (Marc positively despised computer animation!). The last survivor, I believe, is Ollie Johnson, who made an appearance at the El Capitan's showing of Cinderella I last year.

I saw some clips of the show (it's okay but I like more action, not so much just dancing), and I don't think there will be a coronation because of a few reasons. For one, it was kind of already done in Cinderella II. For two ( ), Cinderella's already a crowned princess in this movie, and if Disney's happily ever afters prevail, she'll still be a crowned princess when time goes back to normal. And three, if Anastasia were to get coronated, I doubt it'd be before the wedding, which Cinderella is supposed to stop, so we probably won't get to see that either. The king does give Anastasia a gift, though.

Kurtadisneyite, thank you oh so much! That really made me happy, because then I was free to read the rest of your info about the larger book (with diabolical pumpkin coach)! I had read on Wikipedia that two picture books were being made for the film, but I didn't believe it because they said the first one would be in October, but the first one really came out on Dec. 6. I looked on Amazon.com for any new Cinderella III books, but the only one I could find besides the ones I already own (the coloring book and Randomhouse book) is a Cine-Manga coming out in later January. But a Cine-Manga is just stills taken directly from the film with speech balloons with words, to make a comic book. I would really like to see illustrations based on the movie, not just frames from the film, because I will have the film itself for that!

And I also discovered that the official site, www.cinderella3dvd.com finally has been updated with the 8-minute sneak peek! Seeing it so clearly has somehow made me appreciate the animation even more, and parts that I thought looked bad now look better to me. I'm very impressed that the stepmother really was done "on the fly"!

Kurtadisneyite, that's so awesome you got to interview the original Cinderella animators. By any chance, did they know about the sequels, did they see any work from them? I know they were done after the 80's but do you know if they ever knew? I really hope you stick around because you have made great, valuable contributions to this site, and just plain made me so very happy! I'd love to talk to you after I've finally seen the film, to dicuss how things were done.

Ooooh! I have a question! Why are the colors of the stepfamily's clothes different? The stepmother's dress in the original was red, not purple, and Drizella's dress was yellow-green, not quite the green it is in this sequel. Are they supposed to be completely different outfits that just look like the originals in different colors? I previously thought the power of the wand changed their outfits' colors, because it turned the fairy godmother's Disney dust (sparkles) from white to green. If you don't know, that's okay. And if it's a small spoiler, just warn us, because small ones are okay.

We appreciate all of what you've told us!

I think every effort has been made on this film to ensure its loyalty to the original, and I personally feel its paying off.

But one of the most important factors to me was that they got Cinderella right; the voice, the singing voice, getting her on-model, and her spirit remaining true to the original. Which I'm pleased to say they have ! (Im my opinion).

kurtadisneyite, that was really cool info!

Disney Duster, I'm just in the process of doing some screencaps so we can compare all the different costumes, as there are quite a few changes!
