I know you can not transfer VC games to another system, but what about Wii game saves?

Could I backup my Zelda game save to a SD card and use it on my friends Wii? Or is it tied to my Wii console like the VC is?
The same as the VC is I believe

Thats actually horrible. I can understand the VC Games, but Wii Saves are completely different. Also it makes the SD card pretty useless in my opinion.

Oh well...

Has anyone played Prime 3 yet? and how is it?

Has anyone used the Nyko Wireless Sensor bar? I was thinking about picking one up to reduce some cords behind the TV (its a jungle back there), plus I hear it has a better range than the included Sensor Bar. What I'm wondering is how fast it eats up batteries.

Well I managed to rent Metroid Prime 3 today. Since I wasn't a big fan of the Gamecube ones, I decided to rent this one.

Anyway I've previously had issues with disc read errors, as noted in this thread. Well Prime 3 has brought them back. Its a good game, but getting it to load sometimes is tricky.

I've noticed that a lot of people have started to have problems with disc read errors after getting Prime 3. Nintendo has informed them to return the Wii for a repair. Seems like the disc drive has problems and Prime 3 exploits them. I know the Wii reads the Prime 3 disc a ton. The graphics for a Wii games, are great. Maybe Prime 3 is too hard on the Wiis hardware.

Anyway since I've had issues with my Wii before I know its not Prime 3. If I get the error I can reboot the system and it works fine. So far the only time I get the error is when I first load a disc. Also if I exit the game and go to a different channel when I return to the game channel it does it as well.

I REALLY don't want a refurbished Wii, but it looks like I'm going to have to contact Nintendo eventually and setup a repair. I'm going to just play Prime 3 for now, and battle the issue before I call to send it in. Prime 3 is great so far.

Has anyone here had to have their Wii repaired or replaced? If they can't repair my system is there anyway I can request a new one instead of a refurb? To say my Wii has been lightly used is a understatement. Since May it sits on the shelf 90% of the time. With Galaxy and Brawl coming out I'll have to do something... Should I just continue using this Wii until it finally gives up and dies, or just call up Nintendo now before it gets worse? The reason I don't want a refurb is all the horror stories I hear about getting a refurb thats messed up or worse than the system it replaces. I've also heard someone got a Wii refurb back and the case was scratched up and had blue marker on it.

I'm pretty picky about my consoles in case you haven't noticed. :)

I'm sorry to hear that, DarthPrime. Have you performed all of the updates to the system?

At any rate, I still haven't got to pick up Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. I intend to do that, soon. I know that people are really loving this game, and say it is the best game for Wii, so far.

I, too, am waiting for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and will be buying those on release date! Once those games are out, I'll be playing those for eternity!

I would say you need to go ahead and call Nintendo. For one thing, you want to take care of the issue before the warranty expires. Second, if you've had issues in the past, and they continue to rear their ugly heads, I don't think the problem is going to get any better. If you don't want a refurbished system, I think Nintendo gives you that option. However, I believe if you go for a new system, anything you have saved (Virtual Console games, messages, etc.) on the Wii, will not be replaced. I believe you'll have to talk to Nintendo to find out exact details. I know it's a pain, but, I believe it will be for the best.

Nintendo is well known for making quality systems and games. They ARE the best in the business. Their customer service is amazing, as well. At least, it has been my experience to have never had a Nintendo system (save for the original N.E.S., because I had it so long), cause me any issues. Plus, when I have called their customer service, if I have questions about something, they are always extremely helpful. I hope you'll have the same great experience I've had.

You'll have to let me know what you do.

Thanks :)

I have all the updates as far as I know. Prime 3 comes with a update, and I have downloaded 3.0 using the Wii before that. I ran a manual update and it said the Wii was up to date.

From what I have gathered online you only get a refurb if you do an advanced replacement, or they can't repair your Wii when you send it in.

Whats sort of funny is that my Dad was in here tonight while I was playing Prime 3. He didn't see the error, but I told him about it and how it was just random no matter what game. Also that it was a issue other people have had and I've read about online. He thinks I'm overreacting and should just play the Wii until it dies then send it in. I guess he thinks that if I send it in and Nintendo tests it, and it works for them that they want do anything to it. I've wondered about that as well actually.

I don't have any Virtual Console games at all. I put off downloading some because of the possibility that I would have to send in my Wii for repair. I have a few Miis and some saves that I would love to be able to keep. I know if you get a refurbished system back instead of your own they will transfer your information over. You have to re-register your friends and you can no longer edit the Miis you have created, but all the other information is still there.

I might wait and pickup a SD card if I send in my Wii. That way I'll have a backup of my game saves in case something happens.

For anyone thats curious here is the exact error that I get with Metroid, and sometimes with my other games. I get the same noise from my Wii console as well.

Just finished playing a little Prime 3. Thankfully no problems reading the disc, but this game is great.

Honestly I didn't like Prime 1 and 2. It wasn't the story, but the controls. The Wiimote fixes this. Its still a little odd locking on to things and then using the Wiimote to look around, but I have to say its one of the better first person experiences I have had lately on a console. Some pretty cool things that Prime 3 does on the Wiimote is using levers, and switches. You actually pull, push, and turn them with the Wiimote.

Does the Wiimote replace a keyboard and mouse as my favorite for shooters? No, but it works great.

I don't have a HDTV so I don't know what the progressive image looks like for Prime 3. However the graphics are some of the best I've seen on the Wii using my old SDTV.

So its the usual Monday update for the Virtual Console, but its import titles. Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Level in the US) is on the Virtual Console.

Also a import N64 game too (I forgot its name.)

They are more expensive than normal NES and N64 titles. Mario 2 is 600 points, and the N64 game is 1200.

I'm wondering if this was the September surprise that everyone kept hinting at. I thought it would end up being the Check Mii Out channel, which was supposed to be out in September.

I'll probably pickup Super Mario Bros. 2. I still wish that you had the option to only buy the amount of points that you need, instead of buying them in blocks of 1,000.

Well, if your birthday is in November, Mario Galaxy will be out by then, and that game looks AWESOME!! I would definately get that one. It all depends on what kind of games you like. Wii Play is a good game to pick up, it is $50 and also includes a Wii remote (which alone costs $40) so it is a really great deal. This game features many mini games, there is a fishing game, laser hockey, billiards, shooting range, and a few more, there are 9 games in total. I still enjoy this game, it is pretty fun and it is one you can play by yourself or with a friend. I would also recommend Wario Ware: Smooth Moves. This game is a lot of fun, especially for groups of people, but again it can be played single player. If you like Mario games I would recommend Super Paper Mario, it is a LOT of fun!

You will get Wii Sports with the system, but ones I would buy are...

Super Paper Mario
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Those are really the "big" three thats currently out on the Wii in my opinion.

Others I would rent/pickup are...

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Wii Play (only if you need a extra Wii Remote)
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
Excite Truck
Mario Party 8 (good multiplayer)
Mario Strikers: Charged
Wario Ware: Smooth Movies (good multiplayer)

Also in November Super Mario Galaxy will be available, and in December Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be available. I would add those two games to the "big" three listed above.

Also its not a game, but a good item to pickup for the Wii. The Nyko Charge Station. Its less than $30 and includes 2 rechargeable batteries, and the charge stand to recharge 2 Wii Remotes.

For those that have WiiConnect24 on, you probably already saw the blinking light today and know... Anyway Nintendo is releasing Wii Jackets for the Remotes. All new Wii Remotes will come with them, but people can request up to 4 free ones from the Nintendo site. Its for added protection in case the Wii Remote goes flying across the room. Seriously I have never seen a strap break or anything. My friend has a launch Wii and still uses the original straps with no problems. Maybe I've been lucky.

I put in a order for 2 and the page is slow... Actually its still processing my order request. Hopefully it will go though, if not I'll have to call them.

They are pretty ugly compared to the 3rd party sleeves, but hey there free. :)

New Wii Updates for today. Wii Firmware Update 3.1, and updates to the Internet, and Everybody Votes Channels. Basically the updates add USB Keyboard support to the Wii Menu, and the two channels. The Firmware is updated the same way, but you need to connect to Wii Shop to get the channel updates.

Anyway other news today was about Smash Bros Brawl... Its been delayed... :( The new release date is TBA, but it should be released in Japan around the end of January. Not all bad news about Brawl though. The long awaited debut of Sonic will happen in Brawl.

I was hoping to get this on December 3rd, however it looks like we will all be waiting a little longer.

Thanks for the heads up. I actually haven't played my Wii in over a week. I think I kinda burnt myself out on it for a while, but I am starting to miss it now. Next time I turn it on to play I will do the Firmware Update.

Actually, about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it is possible there will not be a delay. The producer said that some work remains, but, he hopes to complete it without incident. I believe Nintendo just changed the date to "TBD", in the event he doesn't complete finish the work in time.

Also, there have been some major announcements concerning the Nintendo Wii, due to the press conference Nintendo held in Japan, yesterday. Click the following link to read up on all of the terrific news!

By the way, even if Brawl is delayed, at least we will have Super Mario Galaxy to hold us over!

That is exactly what I was thinking. I have been watching all sorts of clips online and the game looks amazing. It's been a long time since I"ve had an up-to-date video game system, so it's been a long time since I've been this excited for a video game. This game looks so awesome, the graphics are amazing. Looks like it will be a lot of fun.

Yeah there was a lot of Nintendo news today. I don't have a DS, but I'm excited about the DS demo channel. The Mii Contest channel sounds like the "Check Mii Out" channel that was supposed to be released in September. Maybe it will also include updates and more items for the Mii Channel too.

The Wii Ware stuff is pretty interesting. 1,500 points for the FF game... not sure on the pricing, but if the games are good then it will be ok.

Anyway I'm excited that we are going to get some new channels for the Wii.

Thats true about Brawl... Galaxy will keep me occupied though the holidays, but I was really ready to play some online multiplayer with Brawl. Hopefully its not delayed, but if delaying it means less bugs, or a better game then thats ok.

Ooooh, DS demo channel? What is that? I actually do have a Nintendo DS, that's why I'm inquiring.
