Breathe, D23. I wouldn't pin your hopes of hand-drawn animation on Tiana or a hypothetical TP&tF sequel.
Personally, I'm glad Newman isn't doing the music for this project. Stick to Toy Story.

Like I said, the only way for that to happen is for 2D animation to be a trend again. Again, there are features coming out this year which have the potential to do that.

Wow, you`re being way over line! You clearly never seem to learn that you should never call out or insult someone on this board! Despite how many times you`ve been told to not to do so! But you`re constantly and blatantly ignoring it! If you think Sotiris is being negative, fine! But you`re acting like if you are his babysitter or guardian and constantly stalks or confronts him with his opinion! And is that your plight or duty to be so? No! Sotiris may be objective, but he`s not being the things that you`re claiming him to be! And if you can`t respect the rules and give people courtesy, you shouldn`t be here on these boards at all!D23ExpoVisitor25 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 4:24 amYou don’t have to be such a stubborn dick about it even before you even see anything from it, asshole. Especially when Paperman, the Disney story being used as reference for Tiana’s series, is far less cel-shaded than you make it look to be, even less cel-shaded than something like Wish, Feast, or Far From The Tree. And also when Joyce herself said that she went to Goldberg, Henn (before he retired) and maybe even Randy Hancock (Naveen’s animator) to make them translated as best as they could from a hand-drawn animated setting into a hybridized animation style like Paperman. It seems she’s doing her best to not erase the past. But it seems you’ll never be happy, no matter how hard she tries to not let you down.Sotiris wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 9:14 pm Disappointing, but unsurprising news. Like many predicted, the animation will be in crude, cel-shaded/non-photoreal CG, with poorly-translated, off-model character designs, no love songs, no Randy Newman because he isn't Black, with Tiana being the Girlboss of Maldonia and fighting racism or whatever.Hard pass.

You know what? You’re a fuckin’ joke of a so-called Disney purist.
No wonder Disney didn’t make hand-drawn animated movies anymore or stop with their live-action remakes either, even if that may inevitably happen once Snow White (and maybe Moana) bombs. But that’s besides the point.
I mean, really, I want Disney to go back to doing hand-drawn animated long-form projects as much as the next person. And I mean they’ll fuckin listen to anyone when they ask them for something, most of the time.
But it shouldn’t have to be forced to happen by way of acting a like a pedantic jerk-off like u do, Sotiris.
I mean you are a judge-mental, snobby, old, miserable, immature, half wit moron. I have never met a sadder, disillusioned, so-called adult Disney purist in my entire life before I came to this group. And that says a lot because I’ve been alive enjoying what I could see of Disney’s century-long stories for more than 25 fuckin’ years.
And I’ll tell you what, the people in this group who either fear you and choose to not speak out against you were right about one thing, you will NEVER save Disney in a way to make them go back to making stories your way. YOU couldn’t even get your way in making that happen during the GODDAMN CHAPEK ERA.
Mother fucker, I wish I could say miserable people like yourself would be better off to be left ripped and behind to die alone. But it’s one of GOD’S IRONIC JOKES THAT MISERABLE PEOPLE LIKE YOU CAN’T SHUT UP, GET LOST OR DIE, EXCEPT THAT’S ON ALL OF US!
And yes, I`m sorry for being so confronting, but you never seem to learn.

It's a shame seeing this kind of behaviour in a Disney forum. You cannot agree with someone but insulting others for their opinions is unacceptable and it's worst when the subject is a TV show. I don't know anything about him out of here but if his behaviour is like you say then he shouldn't be allowed to be part of any forum.Pokenonbinary wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 4:29 amYou should see how he reacts to things in Reddit, he's much worse there
About the TV show turning into a 2D movie I have to say that I don't have any trust about this happening. They had more popular options to make a 2D movies and they didn't. Mufasa in 2D would've been a great choice to start a new traditional animation era. They had the popularity of the franchise and the nostalgia.

I never thought this show would become a movie either. They only did that with Moana as a last-ditch decision, and the animation quality between the original Moana film and the series that was being made wasn't as vast as between the TP&TF film and this series.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
TP&tF was never a streaming hit like Moana so speculation of it also potentially being retooled into a movie were a bit silly.
That said, this just needs to be treated as any spin-off series; a fun extra that expands the universe. I get that WDAS involvement elevates our expectations, but it’s still just a TV series.
It’s not bringing back hand drawn animation, it’s not going to reinvent any wheels. It will exist to fuel the franchise and sell princess dolls. Nothing more, nothing less.
Calling people names over this is wild.

Tiana has been forgotten for some years. It was since black lives matter that Disney is trying to expand all her universe. As I said before she's not so popular in other countries outside US to have a whole tv show for her. In Europe she sells like Pocahontas and other non-white princesses so i wouldn't have faith in another theatrical release of this franchise. Even the ride was a suprise for me.

That's why it's ultimately on other animated films to bring back hand drawn animation. Again, The Light of the World is a good candidate.

This movie looks really great. I think that they are really brave doing this film. A 2D film is not usual right now and less usual are biblical inspired movies.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
Agreed. If we want 2D to be mainstream again we need to support it whenever we can. More importantly, the film has to be GOOD. The Boy and the Heron proved it could be possible because it WAS a good movie, and from an acclaimed director. Both of those worked in its favor. War of the Rohirrim, however, had a tougher uphill battle. It was targeted more toward a smaller audience, and it was rated PG-13. I don't think America is ready for that kind of picture just yet.
I should also say never give up on 2D animation ever making a comeback. Ever. Because that is what will really cause it to disappear. Every time I see people say this, I see others making attempts to prove them wrong. That's why it's on us to stop being cynical and be supportive to help bring it back into mainstream. It is not impossible, but it is challenging.
That's why I say The Light of the World has potential. 1) It's based on a famous Biblical story everybody knows and loves. That's a point in its favor. 2) The film looks great and seems to be hitting all the right notes emotion wise. 3) It's directed by Disney veterans. 4) It actually is doing something that i haven't seen from War of Rohirrim; HYPING. It's making people aware of the movie through their trailers.
The Day The Earth Blew Up is another possible contender for bringing back 2D animation. Everybody loves Looney Tunes. Again, though, it's on marketing to do the job. And good word of mouth. Rohirrim received mixed reviews. Earth Blew Up is getting very favorable reviews so far. And the last thing any of us should do is to try to harp on how this or that movie is gonna flop. All we have to do is support them.
Again, it's the only way to convince American studios that 2D IS worthwhile.
That said, I'm awful curious about that 2D Animation Cleanup Internship that Disney recently posted for. Anyone have more info on that?

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
Thank you again for always being the voice of reason and the only one who speaks truth. Tiana is literally the most unpopular princess there is. Her most popular country is America and even in America she's one of the least popular princesses. Nobody gives a damn about her. Disney stopped promoting her until BLM and then they decided she had to be the face of Disney. Suddenly her face is on everything. I was so pissed that all the Disney centennial merch had her on everything like she was an icon of Disney like Mickey and Snow White. I didn't buy any of that garbage when the Seven Dwarfs were snubbed but this frog was everywhere.Thumper_93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2025 2:21 am Tiana has been forgotten for some years. My friends all over the world say she doesn't sell and nobody knows or cares about her. Woke America keeps forcing her onto everyone. We've had enough of this. There's literally an article in this forum saying that out of all the princess films, hers is the least watched. I read angry youtube comments saying how people recognize her for the diversity quota she is and how Disney pushes her over real classic princesses like Aurora and Snow White.
Long before Disney started recasting the woke remakes, they did it with her film and taking a classic European fairy tale and making it black. Everyone who hates Disney's woke remakes needs to remember that she's the real cause to blame. Audiences rejected her and her film then and they continue to reject her now.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
let's make something clear. It's not just that it wasn't a streaming hit. It wasn't even a home video hit. Look at the top selling DVDs of every year on Wiki page. Her film is not on there for 2009/2010. Tangled is there, Alice in Wonderland (live-action), Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen, etc. You can find loads of Disney live-action films, animated movies, and of course Pixar movies. No frog. It was never a hit. Not at the box office and not on DVD. Movie has no legacy.

And yet by box office numbers, it broke even, right? It made back a little over $267 million worldwide against a $105 million budget.
But on topic, I’m getting very antsy for the series. They said it would premiere this year after delaying it at least twice, but the most we got to date is a promo art piece from years back and some “confirmation” it was on the way.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
Frog's whole purpose was restarting hand-drawn animation. The very fact that Disney ended hand-drawn animation with this movie is further proof it was a failure. If it was a hit and Disney was happy with its success, then there would have been more. Winnie the Pooh was only released because it was already announced and in development since Disney claimed back then they would alternate between 2D and 3D films every other year. It was Frog's failure that ended that plan.DisneyJedi wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:50 am And yet by box office numbers, it broke even, right? This is why after the movie failed at the box office, Disney said no more fairy tale films. Tangled was already in development and too late to cancel. That would have been the end but Tangled was Disney's actual hit and their biggest since Tarzan when the renaissance ended. So Frozen, which was in development hell and cancelled, was brought back all because of Tangled. We are just lucky that Tangled was too far ahead in development to not be cancelled after Frog failed otherwise that would have been the end of Disney's fairy tales and no Frozen either. Frog could singlehandedly have ended Disney's legacy if not for Tangled.
Remember Alvin and the Chipmunks beat this movie. The last time Disney was beaten that badly was The Carebears movie vs Black Cauldron.
Disney needs to realize that if you pander to only one demographic, you lose everyone else. A movie like this was never going to be a big hit because it's directed at only 13% of the American population. And it has absolutely no chance internationally which is what happened. History repeated itself with the Mermaid remake. What should have been an easy billion dollar movie like Aladdin, Beast, Lion King, Alice, and almost Jungle Book could barely make half that money. Disney has not learned from its mistakes all those years earlier. This is why I say you can't hate these remakes for racial recastings if you don't hate Frog too otherwise you're a hypocrite. Because Frog started this drama first and its failure should have been a sign that Mermaid would fail next. I do not make the rules.

I’m pretty sure TPatF was considered a “failure” because it didn’t do Lion King numbers on account it was overshadowed by James Cameron’s expensive Dances With Wolves/Pocahontas knockoff and Alvin, of course. But apparently, for some reason, Disney’s been paying a bit more attention to it.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
No one ever expected it to make Lion King numbers that's crazy. If Disney hadn't made those numbers for any film since 1994, why would they expect it for Frog? Only Frozen ended up making those numbers and Disney definitely didn't expect it then. They never guessed Frozen would become what it did.DisneyJedi wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 2:54 pm I’m pretty sure TPatF was considered a “failure” because it didn’t do Lion King numbers on account it was overshadowed by James Cameron’s expensive Dances With Wolves/Pocahontas knockoff and Alvin, of course. Alvin was the main competition and Alvin trounced Frog at the box office. That's not even including New Moon and Avatar before and after but Alvin was the family friendly film so it was the one that mainly defeated it because it had the most overlap.
The reasons why Disney's been paying more attention to it are all listed above. They ignored it until BLM and George Floyd. Suddenly Disney was afraid of SOTS and being called racist so now they keep promoting a flop film to look less racist. They aren't even slick about it.

Re: Tiana (Disney+ Series)
Seriously? They've acknowledged the film even after its theatrical run. Tiana and Naveen (the latter on occasion) are meet and greet characters at the parks. The movie got its own parade float in Soundsational and Magic Happens and a portion of the Royal Friendship Faire show at Magic Kingdom dedicated to it.
Heck, the Disney Wonder even had one of its restaurants rethemed to Tiana's Place in 2016 as part of its refurbishment, along with a (slight?) retheme in New Orleans Square.
Okay, those might not sound like major things compared to, let's say, a ride, but they're something, right?

The poster is clearly only here for culture warring (like so many supposedly "new" posters of late, shocker), you shouldn't expect them to get basic fact correct.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was another thedisneyspirit alter, sounds like them.
Anyway, TP&TF was a moderate success considering it did nearly 3x its budget and Disney was deliberately trying to get rid of the medium at the time (they even hid the real budget for that purpose). As for all the racebaiting nonsense, original characters will always have more value in the long run than tokenism like TLM or SW, everybody knows that. Tiana has been featured on almost all princess merchandise since her creation. Not sure how BLM enters into this discussion at all.
