The Russian animators Wizart get the jump on Disney with its film Snow Queen, which follows Gerda, a young girl searching for her brother Kai in a snow-blighted world plunged into eternal winter by the evil Snow Queen. The adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story is relatively faithful and spectacular in its own way, if a little crude in terms of animation. The Snow Queen, in particular, seems quite stilted and lacking in menace throughout, although much of the attraction of the story and characters is provided through the voice acting (particularly Doug Ernholtz's wisecracking troll). It's unlikely to stay long in your memory, but Snow Queen might sustain younger viewers.

Mary Tereshchenko: Animation, which we choose

Mary Tereshchenko wrote:In the "New News" published an article by Mary Tereshchenko under the subheading "Today, the development of Russian animation depends on the viewer."

Quote: "Today, our animation consists mainly of fanatics - just from people like Disney and Lasseter, if not on the scale of genius, then certainly in the value system. But if the Russian audience will not be able to evaluate their efforts, they soon develop industry occupy pragmatic businessmen ... To paraphrase an aphorism, it can be said that every nation deserves its animation."

-

Last month, Russian animation set several records: "Three heroes on distant shores" in the domestic box office collected $ 29 million, the total number of hits series "Luntik" on the Internet has reached one billion, and the episode "Big Wash" from the series "Masha Bear" was, according to the corporation Google, the most popular video in Youtube for the year 2012 (as of today - 43 million views).

Back in late 2010, talk of a modern domestic animation sounded mournful, and suddenly - a miracle! - 24 months the situation changed drastically: the number of popular children's TV series increased significantly (there were "Masha and the Bear," "Fixico," "Naughty Family," "Barboskiny," "Vezuha," "Flying animals," "kumi-kumi"), revived the "Mountain of Gems," released on DVD a lot of author shorts for children, new schools and courses for animators began to establish contact with "foreign countries" ("Smeshariki," "kumi-kumi," "Fixico," "Masha and the Bear," and a new full-length "The Snow Queen," has gradually master the foreign markets). All signs of the beginning of Russian Animation "boom." Animators out of the vicious circle when it was impossible to "pull down" so as not to "stuck tail" cartoon professionals scraped bottom of the barrel that the cost of living, which can build the industry. Barring any disasters, the situation will improve now before our eyes: now in production at least a dozen projects with good potential, is ready (or almost ready), several new feature film ... That is about the number of cartoons you can not worry.

As to the quality, then here it all depends on the viewer. And, alas, this awareness does not inspire optimism. Here's an example. On New Year holidays cinemas showing two Russian cartoon "Three Heroes" and "The Snow Queen." The first was made a year and a half, with a budget of $2.8 million and is similar to a skit with clumsy plot, rude humor and lurid picture. "The Snow Queen" was made more than three years at a cost of $7 million and goes to the end pretty good, romantic, beautiful, exciting, dynamic children's movie glorifying a kindred love, kindness and personal heroism. It's almost revolutionary for Russia Cartoon: good design, rich texture, great editing, professional 3D. No aerobatics, but the international level, and this was appreciated abroad: Cartoon purchased for display in 20 countries, in contrast to the "hero" who seems beyond Russia gift nobody wants. In a ride home, "Heroes" gathered 29 million, and "The Snow Queen" even their 7 million do not scored. This situation repeats last year's "competition," "Prince Ivan," and "Smeshariki," which ended with a score of 24:8, while the "Smeshariki." Beginning, "more better and better in every way," Tsarevich."

We will not talk about the reasons interesting to look at the consequences. After these two incidents are there many domestic producers will flock to the heights of "The Snow Queen" and "Smeshariki?" Hardly. Rather, they prefer the path of "Mills," dressed cheap "humorous" cartoons and rowing millions. Why try for 7 million to do that in any Europe, America or Japan would be worth 15-20, then even if these seven will not be able to pay back?

We have very fond of comparing Russian animators with U.S.: where, they say, our Disney and Lasseter, where our Pixar'y (Pixar's) and DreamWorks'y (DreamWorks's)? In response to these criticisms want to ask: Do we have the viewer, able to appreciate the high quality? After all, in America, how? If Walt Disney spent on "Snow White" fairy efforts, she brings a fabulous money. If Pixar has in the first "Toy Story," the new technology, then the company's position in the market grow. If DreamWorks moonlight begins to "Shrek", his domestic duties immediately fall ("Shrek 3" to "open" is better than "Shrek 2," which speaks of the high expectations, but the final figure box office was below by 27% as the nation reported frustration project). Believe me, without that no viewer Pixar'a (Pixar's) would not happen, as, indeed, and Disney.

Today our animation consists mainly of fanatics - just from people like Disney and Lasseter, if not on the scale of genius, then certainly in the value system. But if the Russian audience will not be able to evaluate their efforts, they soon develop industry occupy pragmatic businessmen, and even then do not expect heroic "Snow Queen" - all take bezgeroynye "Heroes." To paraphrase an aphorism, it can be said that every nation deserves its animation. And if we want Russia to have a great (or even good) animation, but now it's time for the Russians to be great (or even good) audience: those who know how to look and see, to understand and to think, to demand from the artist's best, and then it is best to respect and appreciate.

After the All-Russian premiere of the animated film "Snow Queen" Voronezh media enthusiastically zapestrili headlines Prochan Voronezh in the Russian capital animation. Like, a little-known provincial studio periphery commercially successful project creates a high level - no wonder you? In fact, in Voronezh quiet but persistent animated life evolved long ago. Today we tell about some of the creative unions.

«Wizart Animation»

On this studio talking since last December, when the big screens out the very domestic "The Snow Queen". The technical side of the cartoon characters from sketches to animation, was made almost entirely by Voronezh multiples.

"We can objectively assess the quality of animation, graphics, effects, characters. There is a lot of work, and we work with. Of course, the production studio «Pixar» our cartoon will yield much. But Russia is technically more complex and successful project was not yet "- says Alexey Bogatyrev, a leading designer of characters, the principal« Wizart Animation »at VSU.

Indeed, the right to display the cartoon gained more than 25 countries. At the same time the Russian box "Snow Queen" looked in Latvia and Ukraine.

However, "The Snow Queen" was established in Voronezh for good reason.

In fact, the studio under different names there are more than ten years, but only retrained for the production of animated films studio not so long ago.

"We decided to take a niche that was free - explained Alexey Bogatyrev. - In the cartoon then there was a huge failure. At the time, as "Disney" produced magnificent full-length cartoons, and the studio «Pixar» led among 3D, in Russia created a rare works of authorship. "

So a company «Inlay Film». The first feature-length project of the company was the cartoon "The Last Man of Atlantis," based on the novel by Alexander Belyaev. Cartoon is still just getting ready to see the light.

After finishing work on the animated film producers have changed and now the studio with the name «Wizart Animation» started the creation of the "Snow Queen".

Alexey Bogatyrev so says about it: "We worked on the cartoon about two and a half years. Try to spread the full, but sometimes lacked the time and resources necessary to simplify things. We did not have a hereditary connection with the "Soyuzmultfilm" had something to learn from the West. 3D animations can be rather called a revolution of Russian animation than evolution "
In addition to working on new cartoons, «Wizart Animation» together with the Voronezh University have created a school of animation. The courses are held at the Department of Computer Science, account for only two months and provide a basic level of knowledge. But in the early days of filing formed Contest - Three people in place. Over time, courses will become more complex, and the "best hands" will have the opportunity to work in the studio.

To show that Disney's "Frozen" is welcome in this thread, here is a very interesting article.

‘Frozen’ Video Leaked! Features First Look at Animation & Intro from Chris Buck

Morgan Stradling wrote:Image

Well, it’s not official and will probably be pulled, but a video recently surfaced featuring the first-animation from Disney’s upcoming film, Frozen!

The video was leaked on Disney Greece’s youtube page, but it’s unclear if it were supposed to release it (it seems strange that Disney Greece would be given a watermarked version to put up, even if the clip was supposed to be officially released soon).

A poster in the dvdizzy forum discovered the video first. The sneak-peak reel features many unfinished and unrendered scenes from “Disney Animation Studios’ 2013 animated comedy adventure Frozen”, but gives a glimpse into character designs and models. Featured prominently are Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf.

The video appears to have been made or cleared on 7/25/12, which is a few weeks before Destination D where concept art for Frozen was shown. Destination D was held in the first few weeks of August, so the video and materials might have been prepared for that event. However, I don’t recall seeing this video or ANY Frozen animation or video sneak peaks at Destination D. (If this was prepared for Destination D, what happened?)

Elsa and her hair look a bit different in the video. David Gilson (princekido on dvdizzy) said the characters and concepts are from a previous version. Also, maybe it’s just me, but I really liked the platinum blonde version of Anna better than the strawberry blonde that she is now. Also, we get to see a glimpse at the two castles: the kingdom where Anna and Elsa live and the icy palace fortress that Elsa creates in the mountains.

An someone who is hotly anticipating this movie (despite the lack of promotional materials from the Mouse House), this clip gets me very excited. I’m not surprised there aren’t any completed scenes to show, considering the clip is from nearly a year ago. I expect that a lot more animation has been completed since then. That being said, even Wreck-It Ralph was about 30-40% complete when I saw it at the test screening six months before its release.

This isn’t the first pieces of Frozen that have been leaked. Back in February, three fake posters that showed Elsa and Anna’s fully rendered CGI designs were leaked. And just last week, the soundtrack’s tracklist was leaked (it’s unconfirmed whether it’s real or not).

Maybe Elsa cursed Disney’s marketing team and they’re frozen in time, unable to release the materials. Whatever Disney’s reasoning, I think it’s about time that we got some official clips, trailers and posters soon.

Watch below before it gets pulled! Also, check out some stills from the video below.

[UPDATE 12:19 PST 4/24/13] The video has been pulled.

What are your thoughts on the animation? Are you liking the film and character more?

International Festival of Animated Film in the French town of Annecy (Annecy International Animation Film Festival) will be held from 10 to 15 June 2013. It is the oldest and one of the most important festivals in the world of animation.

Initially, in 1956, there was a special section of the cartoon "International Days animation» (Journées internationales du cinéma d'animation) at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1960, it was decided to organize the sections on the basis of a separate independent animation festival. Then Asif was founded - the International Association of Animated Film.

Bad news: the video has been blocked by Disney.
Good news: there are some more images that show up on the video preview.

Olaf the Snowman (Disney's "Frozen") and Orme the Troll (Wizart's "The Snow Queen"). No offense, but is it me or this poor snowman has AIDS based on his structure? As for the troll, his arms are a ripoff to Popeye's arms, the sailor who protects Olive from Bluto.

I went to Disney's "Frozen" at IMDb, and I've read this on their storyline section.
Anonymous wrote:A mountain climber and a young girl named Anna journey through snowy peaks and dangerous cliffs to find the legendary Snow Queen and end the perpetual winter prophecy that has fallen over their kingdom. but when the stumble across the rare scroll of anzonia, their problems arise the hidden azorian kingdom's queen on the trail for the the scroll of anzonia, the scroll was needed to stop the winter prophecy so the embark on a dangerous journey to the snow queen. and when they realize that the snow queen is after the scroll of anzonia, anna has a decision to trust the mysterious snow queen or in danger herself by going to the azorian kingdom in which had has to place the rare scroll in the merop cave.
Source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294629/.

From the looks of it, it's definitely fan-made. But anyway, some ideas remind me of "The Lord of the Rings" where Frodo (Anna and Kristoff), along with Sam and Gollum (Olaf and Sven), takes the ring (scroll of anzonia) to Mount Doom (merop cave), but must keep himself away from Sauron (Snow Queen). In "The Hobbit," Bilbo (Anna and Kristoff) and the dwarves (Olaf and Sven) use a map (scroll of anzonia) to retrieve their kingdom of the Lonely Mountain (merop cave) from the dragon Smaug (Snow Queen). I see some similarities not only between Disney's "Frozen" and Wizart's "The Snow Queen," but also "The Hobbit Trilogy."
