Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition (October 5th!)
Oops, sorry ! I'm sure it would have been, just I couldnt see it. I like fact that Gaston is finially on the cover, and it hasnt used the dull and overdone pose of Belle and Beast holding hands. But it seem Disney have gone backwards in the sense that the old Platinum 'Floating Head' cover is now back .....
I would pay a lot to go back in time and watch this in the theater like in 1991. *sigh*Mr. Yagoobian wrote: I saw the film in theatres back '91. I was even old enough to vote. And I don't remember exactly how it looked either, but it sure wasn't as flat, drab, and muddy as the VHS I got the next year.
Re: Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition
I disagree with this. Theres some indoor scenes where the plants look orange, this was the direct result of coppola trying to make the indoor scenes 'warmer' in post processing, as he said in the behind the scenes feature.KubrickFan wrote:The new Godfather edition is different from the older version too, was that changed too? No, the colors were finally restored to what they were supposed to be.
If he wants to make the plants look like they havent been watered then thats fine, that doesnt mean we all have to agree with it. Coppolas studio, Zoetrope, also did a HORRIBLE job with the blu ray transfer of Dracula. I dont think anyone is gonna protect that shoddy work.
On the opposite end. They took off the orange layer in Do the Right Thing for blu ray, the movie is about an especially hot day in brooklyn. In the special features on the same disc Spike Lee even talks about how adding an orange layer was such a revolutionary idea at the time to make up for the drab weather. And they took it off.
Point is studios make mistakes all the time. The Pinocchio blu ray release also had mistakes. In an effort to clean everything up Disney accidentally/purposely deleted lighting and shadows.
imo the color changes in BatB wasnt to make the movie better... its there to appeal to the 5 year olds who watch spongebob, the ones asking their parents to buy the toys and go to disneyland. Cant really blame them since its all about $$$ but instead of a dark, gothic/almost horror like movie(its about a lone beast afterall) we got this super happy nickelodeon cartoon.

Still torn between Wal Mart w/Tangled moviecash & Best Buy's Ironpack. Anybody have a clue whether the Tangled moviecash is a WM exclusive or just that they're the only ones advertising it?

@Everyone: You would think that amateurs restored these films with all the complaints about of them.

For some reason, that cover art reminds me of this poster.triwit wrote:Beauty and the Beast - Diamond Edition DVD, Out Now in Thailand
and coming Oct 7, are Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World and Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special Edition.

Not to mention a concept cover art for the Platinum Edition of Sleeping Beauty.

Lumiere is on the side of the case again? Jeez, who did he suck up to to wind up there twice?
I mean... I guess it makes as much sense as the hag on the side of "Snow White" or Merryweather on "Sleeping Beauty" but... whatevs.

I know that the "fsk ab 0" thing means it's equivalent to a G/U (aka viewable by all from birth), but something inside me wants it to just mean 0/10. Plus, has anybody noticed that Lumiere's right arm (or arm equivalent in candelabra terms - either way, it's wrapped around Babette) is bigger than the other? Urgh, if they can't get the semi-obligatory new cover art right, why let a piece of crap like Belle's Magical World out of the vault anyway?
As for the Region 1 release of the sequels, judging on UK release patterns versus those in the US, I predict they'll come out soon, despite what you may think. The sequels tend to get reissued at the latest a month or so after the originals' debut in the UK (and perhaps most other places in Europe), whereas they tend to wait a bit in the US. Don't think you Yanks have got off lightly when it comes to the painful follow-ups; expect the cheapquels to be unleashed sometime in 2011.

I don't know, anyone thinking that we might see The Enchanted Christmas in the US before this Christmas? After all, it is a Christmas film, and if Disney is waiting until 2011 to re-release it, I doubt it'd be early in the year. If not this Christmas, they're better off waiting until a year from now, in fall 2011, to tie it in with the holiday season for better sales. Doesn't make too much sense to release a Christmas movie in February.Wonderlicious wrote:Don't think you Yanks have got off lightly when it comes to the painful follow-ups; expect the cheapquels to be unleashed sometime in 2011.
It's like A Christmas Carol, which is coming out on home media this November, a year after the theatrical release. That tends to be the deal with Christmas movies.
I haven't even seen The Enchanted Christmas yet. I did pick up a used copy of the VHS, but I am saving it to watch it until it gets closer to Christmas.

Another glowing review, this one from high Def Digest.

You can tell this guy loves the movie, as he starts referencing lyrics as early as his synopsis.

I'll be happy when all the negatives, prints and copies of all the DTVs are incinerated in a purge of shame.MJW wrote:
